Your Black Friday deals?

Anyone get any good, prep-related Black Friday deals? I hate shopping and refuse to deal with the crowds but M'lady went through the newspaper inserts and wanted to get a few advertised bargains at K-Mart. Important note: The local K-Mart pretty much sux, so is never nearly as crowded as our Wal-Mart. She said there was a slightly larger-than-normal crowd there, but no lines at all.

The only thing I wanted was a pair of $30 Cobra Microtalk GMRS/FRS walkie talkies advertised for $20. She picked those up and said there were still three or four more sets on the shelf. These'll compliment the other GMRS sets we already have.

Anyone else get any prep bargains?

Best regards
Doc

Sorry...no shopping. I did go return a pair of shoes, but that was just pure Black Friday spite The best deal I got was free food...Delicious left overs from MIL.

Went to Wal-Mart and picked up frozen turkey for under a dollar a pound. I plan to can it. It was weird. Black Friday and the place was almost empty. No lines. No lines at all. I talked to the cashier, there was no one behind me and I was in an express lane. She said it had been like this since she was there and she was told it was very busy from 5am till 7am and then almost nothing. The shelves are well stocked, just not many people there buying. This is odd for my area and this Wal-Mart even if it were not Black Friday.

I got some GREAT deals!!

AMD Quad-core HP desktop with 8GB of RAM, a 1TB of disk space, a DL DVD burner WITH a nice 20 inch monitor and printer for $499.

Intel Celeron Laptop with 2GB RAM, 160GB hard drive, 15.6 inch monitor, DVD burner for $197.

1.5 TB external drive (to back up the new desktop) for $115.

Also got my wife a Personal Cricut (for crafts) which normally sells for $199 for just $74.

I didn't get any sleep last night, but I figure I saved around $100 for each hour I spent on line waiting...

You can't beat those prices with a stick...

Got the Brother color laser printer we've been eyeing for $120 off at Staples.

Got the wireless router I wanted for $40 off at OfficeMax.

At the hardware store, got the Stanley tripod LED flashlights for $7.87 (instead of $19).

Walked into the little yarn shop literally *3 minutes* after the door opened and was 16th of the first 20 customers, so got a $10 gift card. (Yarn is srs bzns. DH says he wouldn't want to get in their way because they might stab him with a knitting needle. )

Emergency Essentials is having a Black Friday sale--I bought 2 cans of freeze-dried mozzarella cheese for $45 total with free shipping. I was thrilled. TS can HTF, but I want pizza when it does. That cheese powder just doesn't do it.

Went to our Wal Mart looking for Egg Maker (it's chicken food) and they were still out.

They had pallets of flat panel TV's clogging the main aisle.

I picked up some printer ink in the high tech department and there were a dozen or so people looking at TV's.

Typical shopping traffic for a Friday AM at 8:30 and there was no one in front of me at the checkout line.

I got a Cricut, too (gift for DD) for $188 - usually marked $279. And picked up a 14 gal ShopVac at Lowe's for $29. So didn't do prep shopping, but thought we did good. Went late morning, places were busy, but not crazy.

Wow, I think I'm spoiled, our local Tops Market was selling frozen turkeys for 29 cents a pound. Our turkey cost us $5.83 for an absolutely delicious bird.

We're feasting on leftovers today and will be for a few more days..

Check out their ad:

Use New York and Buffalo to get to our local area, then select the S Park/Bailey location to view their weekly circular.

Wow and I though our Kroger 39˘ deal was a bargain. Our bird set us back $5.00 verse the $25.00 for just a breast and leg that we were gonna get.

Didn't need to go out, but we decided to make a run to Wal-Mart this evening for a couple items we needed to fix a gutter hook-up and a couple suet blocks for the wildbirds.

We very rarely go out after dark because of my hubbys' health (unless it's a run to the ER) yet each year make a point of taking a drive around the area to see the lights. In past years, there were many, many places with really elaborate displays. The year before last we noticed that the number of places decorated seemed less and the displays more restrained.

Last year perhaps only a third of the places were decorated.

Granted it's still early in the season, but on our drive just now, we saw only a dozen or so houses, that were decorated. It's about 5 miles from our door to Wal-Mart.

Once at Wal-Mart the lot was full but the store itself seemed rather empty. Hubby joked that maybe everyone drove two or three cars

Got the garden items we needed, the suet blocks and found two DVD's for $2 a piece.

I think that the realization that 'The Partys Over' is finally sinking in around here. And sadly I'd say that the majority of the folks around here appear to be DGI's ....

On a side note ..... I ran into a woman I meet a couple years ago via the manicurist I used to go to. Asked her how things were and she seemed really upbeat (I suspect she's an obama fan) ...... I asked if she had seen the manicurist lately .... Last I knew was that she was expecting a baby (not married) and had quit her job and the baby-daddy wasn't exactly the sort to really work very hard (also he wasn't exactly the brightest fellow you'd ever meet) and they'd defaulted on the house she bought with a former boyfriend ......

Turns out she must have found her own way to avoid the realities of the current economy ........ Was told she'd just 'got her boobs done. Double D;s!'

Huh?

Silly me .... New baby, no husband, house foreclosed and around here, most of the nail salons are closed or down to a quater of the staff they once had and customers are few and very far between............

Noticed the same in my neighborhood this year, and as you mentioned, it's still early in the season. Some might say, too early for Christmas decorations, per se..

But, not the case in this homestead, I cringe when I think of the electric meter whirling around, not looking forward to that bill, in the least. Somehow, my girlfriend's youngest son convinced her to pick up a few more lawn ornaments (as if we didn't have plenty already)..

Well, one thing led to another, and whoa, we have the most decorated and lit up house on the street. I've been around the neighborhood and it seems considerably subdued as compared to years past. Very few so far.

Still trying to grasp why she is so 'gung ho' about Christmas this year. I figure all I can do is 'count my blessings' and be happy that she is.

Early 'Merry Christmas' ALL!!!

Still way early for me, but the front yard looks great, as will my electric bill...

Hope you feel better Red Sky, difficult time of year to be sick. Although, I doubt there is a 'good time'.

So I figured I'd add one, granted this is no crazy display, but for us, it's perfect. Took this a few minutes ago, rain and all. Thanks for no snow!!!

You have 'no idea' how much I appreciate that..

Still available. Appears to be cheaper than on FeeBay. I put a bid on a roll and it ended up going 20.25/oz, or 2 bucks over spot. Crazy.

I like 925 (Sterling) over 999, as it's more suitable for circulation.

Lowes has LED flashlites, Mag. 2D and 3D with a new Rebel module, these things are bright and throw a good ways. 15 tokens each, definitely a deal.

Also the new Multi-mode MiniMag for about 11 tokens each, also pretty neat. About 10 times brighter than than the old incan version and runtime is crazy too. Great to keep in the car for emergencies, loaded with Lithiums...

Picked up 3-4 of each to give away as gifts....

Stapes has pretty cheap SD-HC cards, picked up a 8GB for 15 tokens (retail 47 or so)

BestBuy was a real disappointment, wanted a laptop but they sold out by 8AM so got nothing. Appears you can get same deal on Ebay without all the waiting.

I played couch potato...

I did order my nephew his gift on amazon, a Nigh Sky Navigator, it looked sort of cool.

Ran into the kids upstairs when I was walking the dog, they said target was packed but very organized....
seems they hired extra security

They said that overall they got some great deals, movie box sets that were normally $55 were selling for $12

They figured that saved about $500 between the 2 of 'em, don't know how much they spent altogether but I know they were happy about the prices.

I went to J.C. Penny's today. Got a $30.00 pair of jeans and $30.00 hoodie for $8.88 each. Went to Barnes and Nobles and got a doomer book for half price. It's called The War After Armageddon by Ralph Peters. Can't wait to start reading it.

I went to Medco online to buy my hubbies prescriptions. Meds that cost us $60 two years ago now cost $168.13!

Wonder why folks are watching their Christmas pennies?

Traditionally, for us it is "Buy Nothing Day"- yeah, there was a 'movement' years back on this and we like the idea.

However, we did take advantage of Amazon's $5 magazine subscription rates. I cannot pay to ship my homemade goodies cross-country for $5. Now, they will get a magazine 12 times/year for their reading enjoyment. For $30 we now have 6 thoughtful choices on their way to folks.

Great buys all! We stayed home and shall stay home again today. DH is now officially retired and we are officially on limited income...but enjoying his time home!

Tuesday we go for his first (second-line) chemo treatment. It's a very toxic chemical and we won't know how he's going to react. So it's home bound we will probably be for quite some time.

This new treatment does a NUMBER on the white blood cell count and so we won't be going many places. We want to be careful he doesn't pick up any bugs, his body won't be able to fight them.

Other than that, we're enjoying life and I love (with a little jealousy, hearing of all the deals everyone is getting.

Fun thread!!

I would say the best put back for later items i got was from Home Depot. They had 60 AA Rayovac batteries for $10 and got 6 - 6 led flashlights with 2 headlighs 2 led white and one red. All for $10 and they came with Eveready batteries. Not a bad deal if i say so myself. And got us and the granddaughters some stainless steel water bottles at Kohls for 3.99 for when we go walking. And just the regular dolls for the girls and some clothes and winter boots for the girls as well. All at good prices.

And what i thought was neat Our wallyworld had the new Terminator movie out and it is not suppose to be out till DEC 1. WooHoo.

And got several new release movies for $9 each not bad for $20 movies.

Thanks, Michael for showing us your Christmas decorations. You did good. I'm having to live vicariously through all of your decorating and the others shopping. I love to hear about everyone's good deals. You're right it is a bad time to be sick, but I seem to get sick during at least one holiday a year.

Sharon, I hope your husband's treatment works and I'll keep him in my prayers.

Thanks Red Sky. What a fun thread this is. I choose not to be jealous of all the GREAT buys everyone has purchased, I shall choose to feel good for you. Wow, some of them really are GREAT buys! Good going!

We have a winner !

Seriously, though, I think Black Friday's a scam. Best deals I ever got were on Christmas Eve.
