What did you have for Thanksgiving dinner?

As late as yesterday morning, I wasn't going to do anything for a Thanksgiving meal. But by last night I'd changed my mind. By doing nothing, I let her win. So I made a duck, scratch stuffing, fresh cranberry sauce, fresh mashed potatoes, fresh acorn squash with butter and brown sugar, Brussels sprouts and (pre-made) dinner rolls (brown and serve).

I'm not sure why I did all this, but I enjoyed making it, and the dogs and I will eat well for a few days. Everything just got done. I haven't eaten yet (and may not until much later tonight) but everything's in containers and/or covered to preserve moisture and freshness.

So what did you all have, and how many people were at your dinner if you hosted?

Well we were expecting 2 more a son and his girl friend, but an hour before our 1.00 pm dinner they called to say they weren't coming. So it ended up dh, our 22 yr old daughter with 11 month old baby and myself. We had turkey, mashed potatoes, whipped sweet potatoes with brown sugar and marshmallows, home made cranberry sauce, corn, jello, rolls, turkey gravy, pumpkin pie made from out pumpkins, chocolate cream, coconut cream and banana cream pies.
Hope your dinner was good Dennis, good for you.

I had a Thanksgiving party on Tuesday, had about 25 people. We had turkey, mashed potatoes, collards, fresh cranberry sauce, corn pudding, sweet potato casserole, pumpkin cheesecake, brownies and a lot of alcohol.

Your dinner sounds delicious... except for the Brussels sprouts.

I was going to have salmon patties but I had no salmon.

So I had chili from a can and my poor cat got nothing but his regular food.

No dishes, no turkey stupor... ahhh the joys of single life.

I cook like a maniac on Thanksgiving with the intention of not having to cook for a couple of days! The menu consisted of turkey, dressing, gravy, mashed potatoes, glazed sweet potatoes, corn casserole, green bean casserole, cranberry sauce (the jellied kind out of a can), jello salad, rolls, pumpkin pie, custard pie, apple pie and lemon pie.

I'm glad you went ahead and did the Thanksgiving thing, Dennis. Somehow, doing "normal" things always makes me feel better.

Dear Timebomb family,
One year to the day since he passed I think Dad is on everyone’s mind today. I went to Thanksgiving dinner at The Griswold Inn and had two old fashioned cocktails. The place was packed. As I walked around remembering the many times we met there for dinner and music on Thursdays, I realized that Dad and I had eaten in every room there except the room my family dined in the night of his memorial service. That seemed fitting today somehow.

The bartender recognized me after about five minutes (even with the haircut and no moustache), and asked if Dad was late meeting me… He told me how much I look like Dad and made the second drink on the house even though I really didn’t want another, and I’ve been kinda weepy ever since. I can’t even put into words how much I miss him. After Nana passed there was a bird that chirped at me every morning I walked Duppy, and somehow I always felt Nana’s presence in that morning greeting. I guess I was hoping for some kind of sign like that from Pop at The Griswold Inn today. It was my first time there since our family dinner celebrating Dad’s life.

There was a gourmet all-you-can-stand buffet with all the trimmings. Delicious.

Just got done with the Mom / Grandmother thing. Turkey breast/drums, Cranberries/sauce, stuffing, deviled eggs, brownserve rolls, gravy, and am now having some 'punkin' pie with cool whip. Have to work tonight so will be home to my girl soon who is just getting off work in a few. Neighbors brought us over some stuff last night, so I have that at the house too.

Cats at the house will get turkey and regular num nums. Stray dog at my grandmothers got several large pieces of turkey. He wanted to play catch but it's too windy and chilly up here for me to go much further than the carport.

I don't really "celebrate" this holiday, but I don't usually turn down free food either.

neway....

Happy Thanksgiving to all my fellow TB2Kers'.

TN Gal,

Is it windy and chilly in Mid-TN? It's a wee bit wintry here.

We had seven pies (one apple and six pumpkin) (my wife makes the best pie crusts and she enhances the pumpkin and then cooks the pies extra long to make them more firm). Then she slow roasted a nice turkey, and we had some fresh Idaho mashed potatoes and her special scratch stuffing, with cranberry sauce, fresh corn, hot turkey gravy, sweet yams and homemade rolls and homemade raspberry jam.

There was my wife, youngest son, daughter and her fiancé (their getting married Saturday), me and our two dogs Louie and Kitty.

We are so thankful for all of you and wish you the very best throughout this coming year. Dennis we wish you were here to have dinner with us this year!

My twin brother passed last week. Kind of a hard pill to swallow.

So I grilled two ribeyes with garlic butter. One for him and one for me.

I had reservations this year for Thanksgiving Dinner. :D

Howdy, Folks!

Just Me and Missus Shimoda this year.

http://www.austinbakehouse.com/image...anksgiving.pdf

Missus Shimoda made noises last year about wanting leftovers, so we did the whole turkey bit.

Hours of preparation, cooking, and cleanup yielded essentially 2 extra plates of food as "leftovers."

For the amount of work involved, and the very poor return for all the effort - we bagged it this year.

The Bakehouse was great, especially for the price.

[And no piles of greasy dishes to wash... ]

Giving thanks for my life and all those who have come and gone. I still miss my mom after 18 years. Today I will make the stuffing just the way she used to make it.

Thanksgiving dinner includes:

Roasted Turkey
Cornbread and Sausage Stuffing
Green Bean Casserole
Creamed Corn
Mashed Pototoes
Homemade giblet gravy
Homemade cranberry sauce
Crab salad
Pumpkin, Pecan and Mincemeat Pies

Happy Thanksgiving to all from sunny Las Vegas where we are vacationing in our motorhome at DB's house.

Cooking a holiday dinner for just the two of us, seems rather sad in a way. SO rather than either cook too much or just ignore the day, we decided to make a nice meal and invite a neighbor who lost her husband, over, to share the meal.

When I invited her, she asked what she could bring and I said just bring a great appetite!!

We made a smaller turkey with stuffing (my sweetie makes the worlds' best stuffing!!!), gravy, whipped sweet potatoes fresh green beans, biscuits, cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie.

We enjoyed a nice meal with wonderful company, shared stories and laughs and reason why we're blessed.

She just went home with a couple of containers of goodies, turkey and the fixings and pie, too .......

Now my better half is kicking back in his recliner, the dogs are crashed out on the couch and I'm taking a wee break before I set the kitchen to rights, again.

I hope everyone has something to be thankful for, that they alway find something to give them hope, they they have love, laughter and tears, all in equal measure. Life is good.

Tomorrow's our big dinner. Today, we had the 'left-overs.' My friend Belle is down from the Dallas area. One of my son's friends is staying with him until he gets on his feet (no jobs in Kentucky, so he moved here). My daughter is here. My son raided tomorrow's meal and fixed a plate of yams, turkey, dressing, and gravy. The rest of us had turkey sandwiches, dressing, and potato salad (not a tradition, but it sounded good with sandwiches).

Then, we took a nap. Staying up late, plus wheat allergy, plus turkey tryptophan--we didn't have a chance of staying awake! It's been a good day...tomorrow will be just as good. We'll eat lunch and then play dominoes all afternoon.

Dennis--sure glad you decided to cook. Don't forget to celebrate Christmas with your son when you go down for graduation!

Abdon, I'm so sorry for your loss. My dad was a twin, too. My brother has two sets of twins born sixteen months apart.

Ginger, thanks for the blessings - I need all I can get.

Cheetos? Burrito and chips? You guys crack me up!

We're having it tomorrow. It is better for the kids to do the in-law thing today. We will have 9 adults and 4 grandkids. I have been cooking ahead all day and cleaning because three families are spending the night. We are having our Christmas tree lighting on the square downtown tomorrow night. There will be a parade with Santa, caroling and the mayor will read The Night Before Christmas.
We are having the traditional turkey dinner. We have a lot to be thankful for since my husband survived kidney cancer and having the kidney removed in Sept.

Dennis, I'm impressed that you can cook. You'll make a good catch for some lucky woman out there.

We had turkey breast, cornbread dressing, mashed potatoes, gravy. cranberry jello, cheesecake, peas, corn, cresent rolls and black olives. The sweet stuff was sugar free because mom and hubby are diabetic. I'm slipping in my old age though. I totally forgot to put the dressing on the table. Now, I'll have to make some kind of cassarole out of it tomorrow.

In a way, you have to smile at the way we humans thank God for all our many blessings on Thanksgiving Day.

First we get a slaughtered turkey, then eat a huge, HUGE meal until all we want to do is sleep or barf , and as soon as our tummy has recouped a bit we do it some more with leftovers.

Kinda like going out and killing a tree for Christmas.

Buuurrrrrp, say what?

We had dinner with our neighbors in the other half of the house. Great cooks! Just the 2 couples, plus his daughter, son in law, and their 2 year old, who also live there.

Killed some time with the appetizers, fresh veggies and dip, pepperoni, cheese and crackers, a round of those tiny hot dogs & buns with mustard...

Pretty traditional meal, nice big turkey, great stuffing with celery, just how I like it. Mashed and sweet taters, both kinds of cranberry sauce, corn on the cob, green beans, sauteed carrots, stuffed mushrooms, hot biscuits. And those little pearl onions were outstanding!

They also made a spiral cut ham with fresh pineapple. Lots of food, but the other daughter, son, and co., are expected to wipe out the leftovers tomorrow.

We're taking a break, came home to refresh the Southern & 7. Heading back over for dessert in a few...

Just DH and me for Thanksgiving dinner. We had turkey, homemade cornbread dressing, baked cranberry sauce, green beans from the garden, mashed potatoes, and gravy. I made a chocolate pumpkin pie that we will have a little later.

Happy Thanksgiving!

BBQ!!! Great southern pulled pork, rice, hash, slaw, & huspuppies, and baked beans--all bought yesterday in great anticipation! A nice lazy relaxing day spent playing with the dogs.

We lost my DH's dear mother (85 yr old) earlier this month so none of us wanted to do the traditional family dinner and see the empty chair at the table.
Everybody did their own thing today and we'll go to Cracker Barrel for a family get-together dinner this weekend.

Works for me!

Just the three of us, DS and DDIL and me. Won't have dinner until about 5:30 or so. DDIL will be frying a turkey. To that we'll add mashed pots and gravy, steamed broccoli, cranberry sauce (for me) and something that DDIL is experimenting with, an unbaked pumpkin pie. It has a graham crust and looks like a chiffon pie.

Oh, yes, the only thing I do is my special homemade refrigerator rolls which are absolutely scrumptious (if I do say so, myself). Stir them up night before, stick in frig, take out next day, knead once, form rolls, let rise and bake. Wonderful recipe.

Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Did the thanksgiving thang on November 7th before my son left for Florida. My mom and dad went to sis's house about 4 hours away so it was just me and my hubby and the two pups.

I ordered a rib roast, made some twice baked potatoes, nice romaine salad with a lot of vegies and home made thousand island (for me) and catalina (for hubby) dressing. For desert, something I've never in my life done, went to a bakery and bought hubby a little white 7" white cake with white icing, his fav, and also bought a pumpkin roll. Instead of all that blowaway icing they usually have them stuffed with it was a nice light whipped cream type with a whole lot of cinnamon going on there.

All in all it was nice and quiet and I didn't have to kill myself, I actually had my makeup on and hair done before dinner was ready and I wasn't sweating like a pig putting the finishing touches on things.

My kitchen wasn't over run with dirty dishes, and it didn't take all night to clean up afterward.

And best of all, I have enough roast left for yummy hot beef sandwiches tomorrow, so we can still do the left over thing.

I've really been thinking hard about how much time I spend cooking lavish meals and the downside of it, which is, no one helps me, no one ever brings anything, no one even sets the table unless I ask them to. I spend all the money, do all the work, and still end up doing all the dishes. I'm tired of it, honestly. My husband and I can eat very simply, meat and salad make us as happy as anything and when I do want to get fancy for us its something like chicken marsala and wild rice.

I cook a turkey breast for us at least once a month and often times more, so turkey on thanksgiving isn't really that big a deal.

What I've decided is, I'm pretty much through making big dinners and inviting crowds over. I am reclaiming my life! Happy thanksgiving!

We had Turkey with everything that goes with it.....in a room full of DGI's. Not one of the family has a clue as to anything that is going on and all they could talk about is what they are getting for Christmas, or going shopping tonight starting at midnight thorough the early morning for the black friday ads.

I wanted to scream....Are you freaking kidding me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Happy Thanksgiving!
Wouldn't you know it, I started getting a sore throat yesterday, went to the doctor and ends up I have a horrendous ear infection that also affected my throat. I felt and still feel terrible. But after I got back from the doctor yesterday, I started cooking sweet potato casserole, fresh green beans, fresh collards, dressing, made a sugar-free strawberry pie, and today I cooked the turkey, made gravy, had cranberry sauce, rolls, and iced tea. I don't know how I did it but every one said it tasted great. They said maybe I should cook when I'm sick more often. (Ah, I don't think so!) It's good to know that I can, though. Now, I get a little reprieve tonight before company comes tomorrow. I think they'll be getting turkey sandwiches or hamburgers.

Haven't had dinner yet. had to work. my son is cooking!! he's proving what a responsible young man he was destined to be (26 yo) he has had his issues, but has come around full circle. he moved in with me in April (from Michigan to Colorado) has a great job and is loving life. it's real nice to have him here with me. God has truly given me a gift, and today is a totally special Thanksgiving for me. He's my only family (parents gone a long time ago and I'm an only)

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you, YOU"RE THE BEST!!!!

Good for you Dennis...no sense wasting another perfectly good day feeling mad, angry and hurt.

I cooked dinner for the 4 of us...turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, gravy, green bean casserole, fruit salad and a pumpkin swirl cheesecake and a pumpkin rolls with cream cheese filling.

Nothing too fancy as the kids aren't into anything too "fancy" and it is just the 4 of us.

DH and I were by ourselves also. Had a light lunch and watched a movie. Haven't had dinner yet - DH is getting ready to cook NY steaks on the grill, and we are having that with baked potato, sour cream, frozen green peas, etc. and pumpkin pie for dessert. DD and friend, and the grandkids are coming on Saturday and Sunday, and we all have a 50th wedding anniversary to go to, so are celebrating that when they are here.

Patricia, if you are so inclined to share, I would love to have your recipe!

We had turkey, sweet potatoes w/ sauce, green bean casserole, mashed potatoes, whole cranberry sauce and homemade bread & butter. Pumpkin pie w/ cinnamon ice cream for later.

We went out to a nice restaurant and then to see the new 3D movie, A Christmas Carol. It was pretty awesome, and you should see it.
