just caught the tale-end of Geraldo speaking. I usually tune him out when he is on, so not sure what he said. Saw the "Alert" on the bottom of the screen right before it went away, can't find a link though.

Did anyone else hear it? He mentioned a "lab" and "bomb", but that was all I caught. Anyone?

Explosion kills one during OU game
by Rhett Brackeen and Ryan McGhee

October 01, 2005

One person was killed Saturday night in an explosion during the second quarter of the OU/Kansas State game.

OU police Sgt. Gary Robinson said: "We heard a loud explosion outside the stadium, a device was exploded. We have one fatality and we have the area sectioned off. We are checking to see if there are any devices."

The explosion occurred in the courtyard east of G.L. Cross Hall, Robinson said.

He said after the area was cleared of any other possible devices the police would check on other injuries.

"We're letting the hazardous device units do what they do," Robinson said.

Robinson said after the game fans would be let out on the east side of the stadium towards Jenkins Avenue. During half time fans were not allowed to leave the stadium on the west side.

Explosion Kills One at University of Oklahoma
Saturday, October 01, 2005

NORMAN, Okla. — University of Oklahoma (search) police investigating a loud boom found one person dead outside a campus building and believe an explosive device was involved.

"It was an explosive device with one fatality," said Sgt. Gary Robinson of the OU police department.

Robinson didn't know the identity or sex of the person who was found dead outside the Botany-Microbiology building. He also didn't know if there were other injuries or if the building was occupied.

Law enforcement officers cordoned off an area west of a packed Oklahoma Memorial Stadium (search), where the Oklahoma Sooners were playing Kansas State (search). Spectators reported hearing a loud boom just before the end of the first half, but no smoke or fire was seen.

Officers were not allowing anyone to exit the stadium, but Robinson said the spectators were safe.

Additional details weren't immediately available.

Thanks Lilbits for staying on top of this one. I'd HATE to be there at that stadium one way or the other.

Per update from KWTV-9, authorities on the scene say it was a bomb, and that a second device was also found and has been "taken care of". Occurred outside the stadium around halftime.

Some architecture students working on a project in a nearby building said they saw smoke and saw only one casualty. It's presumed that's the perp. Right now focus is on securing the area and finding an orderly way for fans to make their exit at the end of the game without compromising any possible evidence.

And..

My wife just called from the stadium. She supervises one of the University sky boxes and said there was a tremendous blast and they wont let anyone have access to thier cars parked in the area of the bomb. It was apparently a suicide bomber who prematurely triggered the bomb. It was just before halftime with 80,000 people in the stands. My guess is an OU student frome a Muslim country. I am so angry I am shaking.

wow, eXe, I was just worried because it was outside of a micro-biology lab. I figured we had another "scientist" bite the dust. Suicide bomber is way worse. :shk:

Update from KOCO-5. Bomb squads continue to search the area west of the stadium with dogs and robots, looking for other devices. No one will be allowed to exit on the west side. This will complicate fans efforts to leave the stadium, but as of now the fans and stadium are not believed to be in immediate danger.

Just a little more update.. according to reports on freepers there were 2 bombs planted.

Lilbitsnana

On TB every waking moment
were they planted devices? or suicide bomber? neither is pretty, but one seems to have bigger implications than the other.

eXe

Techno Junkie
I think 2 were planted and one went off before it was supposed to. one dead is the bomber so far thats all I can get from over there or the news.

Further update from KOCO-5...authorities say the fans still at the game are safe and the game should finish as scheduled. OU Pres David Boren is in contact with authorities and they determined there was no need to evacuate stadium. Focus is on keeping people away from the stadium's west side, the microbio bldg and the campus in general. Search continues...

thanks, eXe, the GS wanted Nana to fix him some popcorn, so bombs and searches had to take a back seat. ;)

Just had a thought (just one), what about all of the rest of the college football games with lots of fans in attendance tonight? Anyone got a link ?

Maybe we should all keep an eye on local news reports in the areas of all the games.

Well FWIW the media is calling this a suicide. I cant say I have ever heard of a suicide where someone blows themselevs up unless they are a suicide bomber.

From Freepers post

local news reporting now.... says Stoops was made aware ....showing people live leaving the stadium... Boren talked to fans and told them all was fine. West and south of stadium is closed. Saying it's an individual suicide. Explosion was outside the stadium on the west side.
Parking garage on the west side of stadium is closed (that's the $$$$ section). Bomb dogs and robot searching for any other devices. More at 10

yes, but now some of the news stories have been edited. no mention of the micro-biology lab, and now it says it happened in a "traffic circle" outside of the stadium.

If you read the thread I referenced, you will find this is only the beginning, according to the author of the thread. Some timing tonight with what he said, isn't it? And is that PC speak I'm hearing above?

If it was a suicide as they claim, why was there a second bomb found and disarmed. I've never heard of a suicide plan that had a backup bomb just in case. Sounds fishy to me.

eXe

Fox news just said a second device was found and detonated safely.

No way was this just someone looking to end their life.
