HEALTH What Do You Brush your teeth with?

So I've gone from regular tooth paste, brushing with soap, back to tooth paste, etc.

Lately, I've tried DE, just didn't seem to do the job, my teeth felt dirty in a short time after brushing. Baking soda lasted longer, but still seemed lacking.

I've got tooth paste somewhere in my stores, but didn't want to go searching for it.

This morning I found a recipe for tooth powder at http://www.diynatural.com/whitening-tooth-powder/

Peppermint Sage Tooth Powder

(Makes ½ cup of tooth powder)

Ingredients:

2 tablespoons bentonite clay (find clay here)
2 tablespoons baking soda
1 tablespoon dried, finely ground sage leaf (find organic sage here)
1 tablespoon xylitol (optional, for adding sweetness)
½ tablespoon pure sea salt (find unrefined sea salt here)
15-20 drops peppermint essential oil (find 100% pure essential oils here)

Directions:

Combine dry ingredients in a bowl and mix thoroughly with a non-metal spoon. Drip essential oils into the mixture and stir well to combine. Transfer to a small container or jar with a tight fitting lid. Particles of the tooth powder are fine enough that a small squirt bottle like this can also be used (as long as you don’t get the squirt-tip wet, which will cause clogging). Note: Bentonite clay loses its beneficial properties when it comes into contact with metal, so it’s best to use plastic or glass when mixing and storing your tooth powder.

To brush with tooth powder, simply dip your toothbrush into the powder, or carefully squirt some onto a wet toothbrush. Brush teeth as usual. Follow with homemade moutwash if desired."

As for mouthwash, I'm still using the one with 1 tsp. borax, 1 cup water, and a few drops of peppermint oil.

Now, several hours after brushing and swishing, my mouth is still feeling clean and that is after eating.

My gum heal improved greatly when I bought a water pic. I put some MMS and water in it and it clears out all the stuff between my teeth. Then I brush with Tom's no floride toothepaste sprinkled with DE. My mouth feels really clean.

The primary reason or toothpaste is to mask the taste of guck off your teeth and blood from your gums. I use a cinnamon flavored toothpaste and a powered toothbrush. I follow with a mouth rinse.

Colgate TOTAL.

Which has a cancer causing ingredient which stifles the growth of bacteria on the gum line.

While I'm a green tree huger, certain things I can make an allowance for.

The Dr Ellie protocol.

Closys pre-rinse.
Crest original (yeah, I don't like it either, but she has her reasons).
Optional flossing.
Listerine rinse (Diluted! Sheesh that stuff is strong).
ACT fluoride rinse (I really hate this stuff).

Look up Dr Ellie Philips. Her BIGGEST thing is 6 grams a day of Xylitol (gum is the best). Seems to be the best dental care thing out there. The Xylitol kills (starves) the bad bacteria in your mouth. The rest of the protocol (rinses, etc) is to help in re-mineralizing. I DO NOT like toothpaste sweeteners and DO NOT like fluoride, but have been willing to try it. Several other people have had great results (and only do the xylitol part).

Salt with 5 parts baking soda. Rinse with diluted hydrogen peroxide.
Sometimes I will even brush some more with the diluted hydrogen peroxide and finish rinsing.

Do they still make powdered tooth powder for brushing?

I avoid fluoride. Xylitol also rebuilds the enamel on your teeth so it's a great thing to mix in with your home made tooth powders.

I use to make a baking soda/sweet orange oil/peppermint oil/stevia powder tooth powder, I've since replaced the stevia with non-GMO, birch based xylitol. I've been buying Xyloclear toothpaste, it's bland but works. The cinnamon flavor doesn't come off the teeth well, so you have to double brush. Soda keeps my teeth clean for triple the time that regular toothpaste does.

there is a very good toothpaste available in the UK, not sure about the US, called Euthymol, active ingredient Thymol, this is a very effective antiseptic, the toothpaste is quite an old product dating back to the early 20C, also it does not contain fluoride.

Kook

A 'maker', not a 'taker'!
I wear dentures, and the recommended wash is a 50/50 mix of vinegar and distilled water. The choppers come out clean, sterile, and slick. Works much better than the bubbly tablets and is much cheaper.

My beloved Kookette, on the other hand, uses a sensitive tooth dentifrice, and is a generic that costs a dollar a tube at the Dollar Tree store. Works as well as Sensodyne, and much cheaper. We have enough to keep her smiling for the rest of her natural life.

Mornings I use Toms and evenings I use OraMD which ingredients are "100% pure botanical Oils of Almond,Spearmint and Peppermint". I found it online after my dentist told me that gum disease would cause me to lose my teeth three years ago. The gum disease is GONE since I started using the OraMD and my dentist is amazed. In the beginning I used it 3 times per day and once the gums healed up, once per day is sufficient. It is strong but WORKS for my very old teeth and gums.

Haybails

I got my first Timebomb!
First I wet my battery powered toothbrush,
Then I put one teeny dollop of Pronamel foaming toothpaste on it,
Then I dab the end of the brush (toothpaste down) into a little bowl of DE that I have.

Sensative Teeth problem is gone,
Gum line is healthy,
Teeth are slightly whiter than when I began.

I floos a bit . . . but <blush> not daily like I should.
