Turkey feeding . . . ?

We had turkeys when I was growing up - they were just part of the farm.
Now, after a years of not having any I bought 4 white midgets and they are growing pretty fast. Not knowing about feeding them I asked the person who sold them to me, what should I feed them - she said game bird feed. I asked the person where I buy my chicken feed what to feed them, he said "game bird feed".
Now, I KNOW we did NOT buy special feed for our turkeys and they ate what we fed the chickens or they free ranged the farm. I do have to keep these turkeys confined to a pen, but am wanting to start feeding them like I do the chickens because of the cost - otherwise, I may have to get rid of them.
Does anyone have suggestions - remember they MUST be penned because they would wander the neighborhood and try to sleep in the trees.

Did you buy day old chicks are older birds? Baby chicks need a higher protein feed, especially if they are confined. If they are older birds, then you can feed them other things, but they may grow a little slower.

Thank you for this reply. The birds were about two weeks old when I got them. They must be two months old now and are pretty big.
I will start feeding them like I do the chickens.

That should work. Although if you come across any cheap protein source, it doesn't hurt to give it to them.

I was just wondering today how long I needed to feed my midget whites game bird starter. I got them as day old poults near the end of March so they are about 8 weeks old now. Guess I will switch them over when I run out of the game bird starter and see how they do.
