HEALTH In an Effort to get some exercise

Don't know why I thought of this, but I looked up "walking in place" and found a couple of links. One suggested to walk in place at every commerical, adding a little arm action.

And since I spend way too much time sitting in front of my computer with the tv on, it seems plausible to give this a try.

On Fox, most commericals last a couple of minutes several times in an hour, what can it hurt.

I prefer a treadmill at a gym, where I could also work out with weight machines, but really feasible not where I live, and its really getting hot and buggie out in this Louisiana climate.

you might like the Leslie Sansone walking videos. (amazon, target, etc...) She has alot of videos out there, but they are great for getting walking in during bad weather, being stuck at home with sick kiddos, etc...

I did her 3 mile one yesterday and loved it.

just as long as you MOVE. I spend my day treating people with serious pain problems because they are sedentary, computer-bound. Walking is the very best all around exercise for nearly every body system. Sitting four hrs per day is as hazardous to your health as a pack per day of cig's, according to a recently published (peer reviewed.. gasp!) study. Walking... once you commit to doing it every day, it becomes an addictive habit.

Walking is one of the best all around exercises and costs nothing.
If weather is a problem, most malls have free walking programs before they open in the morning.
Lifting weights is one of the best exercises as we get older. It builds basic strength and bone density.
If I had a choice of only cardio or weights as I got older, I would go with weights. As it is, I do both.
You don't need a lot of equipment to lift weights. A couple of dumbbells will suffice.
You'd be surprise what's available on Craigs list for free or next to nothing.

Especially those clay filled plastic weights. Lots of them for free everywhere I've looked. Sometimes you see them in the yard. Stop and ask, and you might get them for the asking.

Nothing comes close to using a rebounder. Two minutes on one gives you the equivalent amount of exercise to twenty minutes of walking.

I have a "rebounder", it kills my knees to jump on it, even gingerly. Thanks for the suggestions, actually, I wasn't looking for suggestions. Just wanted to share something that may work for me. And I have a good assortment of free weights, up to 25 pounds that could lift with a fair amount of ease before Katrina.
