SENIOR DISCOUNTS

Keep this list and send a copy to your senior friends and relatives.
As I was waiting in line behind an older gentleman at Wendy's recently, I heard him ask for his senior discount. The girl at the register apologized and charged him less. When I asked the man what the discount was, he told me that seniors over age 55 get 10% off everything on the menu, every day.
Being of 'that' age myself, I figured I might as well ask for the discount too.
This incident prompted me to do some research, and I came across a list of restaurants, supermarkets, department stores, travel deals and other types of offers giving various discounts with different age requirements. I was actually surprised to see how many there are and howsome of them start at the young age of 50 .
This list may not only be useful for you, but for your friends and family too.
Dunkin Donuts gives free coffee to people over 55 .
If you're paying for a cup every day, you might want to start getting it for FREE.

YOU ;must ASK for your discount !

Good to know, some fast food places make it difficult sometimes. Like Popeyes won't give the discount in their drive thru, you have to go in. I've been to some Burger Kings that give no discount, depends on the owner.

Bottom line, always ask. All they can do is say no.

I always check for senior discounts and military discounts.
That's the only way I found out I get a 10% military discount at Home Depot and Lowes.

Actually taken as a whole, the retired, over 60 demographic has done far far better than any other. Of course if your an exception you'll take offense to this, but on average.....

Waldorf Astoria - NYC $5,000 off nightly rate for Presidential Suite (55 +) !!! Yes!
Hopefully, when I am that age, The program is still in effect.
With that discount may be able to snag a great room for say $69.95.

satire, of course

No, actually he may be right! Where I live (MN), the older retired people (over 75-80 years old) are, for the most part, living pretty good. They had good retirement accounts and retired at just the right time. They are "grandfathered" in on their health care insurance and other benefits, too. A lot of them were more frugal with their money and put more into retirement accounts. Plus the companies matched that money more as those days were more prosperous for companies.

People who are now retiring are getting less retirement, plus the health insurance is probably not as good as companies are leery of what may happen in the future.

So he may be right that the older folks have it a bit easier than those now working or newly retired.

My honest opinion - YMMV.

We have friends who have lost all their retirement investment when the company failed. Big well-established company. They lost about 700K. Now he is back at work in his 70s. We live basically on 1200 a month SS. We lost about a third of our retirement savings, and are probably at 50% now with the devalued dollar. We have the house paid for, and no other debts, so we are okay, but we don't fit into the stereotype of the "well off" senior.

We like Culvers, but they are a bit pricey. We only go when we have a coupon.

I know where I'm doing my grocery shopping next week!
I'm guessing this one might be a typo.

A one-of-a-kind room at the Waldorf-Astoria comes with a background check.

The $10,000-a-night Presidential Suite in the Park Ave. landmark is available without a majority in the Electoral College - though it's not open to just any registered voter.

"The suite is not available through normal booking channels," said Matt Zolbe, the Waldorf's director of sales and marketing. "We want to know a little bit about you first."

The review (no, the Secret Service is not involved) is a nod to the room's historic significance and irreplaceable artifacts. Every sitting President since Herbert Hoover spent time inside the 3,100-square-foot suite, with each traditionally leaving behind a gift.

History buffs can write a letter from President Dwight Eisenhower's desk in the living room, or sit in President John Kennedy's rocking chair. President Richard Nixon provided wall sconces.

The three-bedroom suite features a full dining room, full kitchen and an expansive living room. It can accommodate up to 50 people for a reception.

"There's just so much in that suite," Zolbe said. "You can't replicate what's in there."

When not serving as the Manhattan White House, the pricey suite is often booked by heads of state and Hollywood royalty.

So....good luck with that $69.95 a night dream. ;)
