Neither here nor there.
Thought I'd tell you, I was looking into moving there as well if my job takes me back to the US. However, given the current push for "amnesty", as well as the Dem-stated goal of turning TX at least "purple" if not blue within 4 years, I decided TX might not be the best place. Yes, right now it's got pretty much the best business climate of any state, as well as the widest range of jobs. However, it'll be hardest hit by any influx of newly-legit mexican immigrants, and that in turn will result in a huge influx of new illegals hoping to follow in their footsteps. I really suspect that the new epicenter of conservatism is going to be the upper Intermountain West. Texas has become too urbanized to effectively resist the liberal infection for much longer; Austin is Patient Zero, and Houston is not far behind in developing symptoms due to the aftereffects of Katrina.

I wasn't aware of this, me thinks I should look elsewhere then... Sat more prayers for you for your move then.

We've bought/sold property in NC a few times - one problem with a house that has problems is that any buyer is going to want the problems fixed before they'll buy the property you want to get away from, which isn't always the easiest thing to do. If you buy a less expensive house, you're also looking at the chance that the new place will also have problems that need to be fixed (and if you're looking at short sale or foreclosed properties, nobody is going to fix the problems before you buy). Try not to jump out of frying pan into fire. You're not looking in exactly the cheapest part of NC for property, either - but you are looking in an area where there are lots of houses for sale, so no one is going to want to buy a house that has problems without you fixing those problems first.

Good luck with all this - but it sounds like a big undertaking.
