Felix Wong critiques airfree bike tires

Out here in Arizona the mesquite bushes make thorns like one inch nails. Had to hunt like heck to find some airless tires for my garden wagon. Would like to get a bike but the thorns keep me from it. This may be the answer I've been looking for for a long time. Great news!

www.airfreetires.com probably has airless tires to fit garden carts

http://www.huskybicycles.com/index2.html
click on BICYCLES
19 inch frame HD-120 rated for 400 lb rider plus 50 lbs

one could make a heavy duty bike to haul freight with the HD-120 wheelset on most any frame.
click on PARTS click on WHEELS go to second page
the HD-120 wheelset Shimano one speed coaster brake for under $100

click TIRES see 26x2.00 hard foam airfree tire. It has no air. cannot go flat or blow out.

I wonder if you might replace the air tube in your bicycle tire with super bouncy balls.

Presently we are at the end of a fabulous supply train. Lift the phone, give your CC nr and in two days UPS will deliver to your door. No need to resort to any wildly unorthodox ideas that might unbearably tittilate the spandex crowd at the bicycle club. They might regard you with noisy, amused, derisive contempt. They might even suspect that you would use ...... horrors ....... airfree tires. Can't have that. That might offend your tender sensibilities.

You may live to crawl out of the rubble to start over with what is at hand. With that in mind you might secretly consider alternative methods -- outside the box so to speak.

(Hey, I won't tell if you don't.)

Vlad, after five years, this is my opinion of the tires:

1. The tires are nearly as fast as regular tires in winter but definitely slower (by maybe 2 MPH) in summer when they are softer.
2. The tires corner about as well as regular tires.
3. The tires last at least as long as my Michelin Pro Race3 tires.
4. The ride quality is definitely worse than a good pneumatic tire like the Michelin Pro Race3, but not intolerable.
5. I’ve broken one spoke on a 32-spoked wheel with these tires, but I attribute that to the wheel not being built up well by a teenager who sold me the wheel for $30.
6. I still think these are near-ideal as a commuting tire, as you don’t need to pump up the tires beforehand, will never get a flat, and don’t have to carry around flat-fixing equipment when you ride.

I attempted to order AFT's from a company online a few years back. I purchased the wheels with the preferred square bead set but the tires were a no show B/O.

I have a friend who rides his bike to work 90% of the time; on my cell phone I have pics of the Kevlar tire he has been using for some time now.
