ALERT tornados on ground OKC

CNN reporting that Welston (sp) hit hard too. They are showing some of the damage in these areas by using a helicopter.

Tornadoes have struck in Kansas now just short of Wichita according to Fox News.

At one point there were two tornados on the ground in Shawnee. We do have fatalities, sadly. I sure hope that Faith and her family are okay, they live in Shawnee but I don't know where.

I live in Tecumseh, a one-stoplight town just a couple of miles south of Shawnee. My family lives in Shawnee, but everyone is fine, thankfully. My elderly parents were here with me, as I insisted they come here because I have a storm cellar in the backyard. My sister and her family have a basement, but sis is prone to panic so Mom and Dad were better off here.

The sirens did go off here and I started herding neighbors and their pets into the cellar. One neighbor is a Sac & Fox policeman and he had his police radio so we could hear reports from spotters and realized the tornado would go north of us. I know several families in the areas that were hard hit and am very worried about them.

I will go either to my church or the Salvation Army in the morning and see how I can help with clean up or helping to feed people. Neighbor policeman got called in to duty to help search for survivors. It was an EF-4 that hit with winds of 200mph or more.

The local news just said that debris from Shawnee is now falling over Tulsa.

Stormy, I have been worried about you and your family all night. Ever since I took a look at the radar for your area.

Be careful tonight. Still have storms cruising thru your area. Stay safe my friend.

Will do, Wise Owl. Today was scary, and we have the same forecast for tomorrow.

Local news just said another person passed away at the hospital.

Talked to neighbor and she said that her policeman husband had been sent out to I -40 highway to help recover a dead body from a tree. So very sad and devastating.

I sure wish Faith and anyone else in central Oklahoma would check in.

I was west of Enid on two towers that still didn't have power.

I'm waiting for the phone to ring now, we had 10 sites with no power as of 6:00.

Probably won't get home for a few days, hopefully tomorrow won't be a re-run of today.

Carney OK.

Stormy, I saw Faith online here a few mins ago. She is ok apparently. Didn't post but I saw her name on the thread reading.

OK, Thank God! So glad to hear that, thanks for letting us all know.

My Mom is trying to get ahold of a lady that is in her Sunday school class, as well as another elderly couple that go to our church out by highways 177 and I-40 where there was major damage but no luck yet. She is going to call Mary Margaret and see if Brother Todd can go check on them, as they are letting clergy into the area.

I'm all about the doom
Saw part of it on the Weather Channel this afternoon. Knew it was going to be bad. The forecast for tomorrow shows my area in the moderate risk zone, so I guess us southern OK folks will get our turn. Where I am at, I can just go in my back yard and see them come over - happens about every other year. I don't need to go a chasing them, they come to me.

missed me down by Lake T Bird less than 1/4 mile to the south.
Do have debri to clean up

Wow, glad to hear you are okay, 33dInd! And you as well, Masterchief. Keep a close eye on the weather tomorrow as well.

Mom called back to say that our friends have lost their homes, but they were all right. My ex-girlfriend's former husband also lost his home, and two of her grandchildren live with him but they are all okay, Thank God!

Frank and Doris, the elderly folks are with their children, and John, Cooper and Britton are with Floyd and Jackie and all have plenty of resources.

My Goodness, What a day! I cannot even imagine having your entire home destroyed and being left with nothing. In a tornado situation, unless your preps are in a basement or a cellar, then they are gone. I did pack a bag to take to the cellar with my sheepskin houseshoes, underwear, shorts and 2 T-shirts, passport, SS card, soap, razors, shave cream, a quilt that Quilter made, toothbrush & paste and family pictures. I had my wallet, cell phone and a little cash in my pants pocket.

Guess I will just leave it packed for tomorrow.

Stormy, I'm glad to hear you are Okay! I saw this thread last night while I was browsing with my I-Phone. Everytime I tried to post I would lose everything I would type out so I just gave up. I'm just now getting a chance to get on the computer.

We are fine, no damage a few tree limbs down. 3 of the tornadoes were 1 1/4 mile from us. We are just off 177 south of I-40. The roaring was so loud reminded me of the May 3 tornadoes along with the heat and humidity. It got deathly still right before the storms hit. We rode the storms out in our basement. I was coming up the steps of the basement when I heard on the TV Mike Morgan say not to come out of your safety place just yet looked like another one forming. Well, I went ahead and came up and looked outside and even though our place is surrounded with trees I could see the tornado as it was going past. My husband and I both are storm spotters but his ham radio in the pickup isn't working and he wasn't feeling well so we weren't out yesterday.

I learned this morning that a friend of ours lost their home yesterday but they are fine.

33dInd and Millwright glad you'll are ok. We are in for another day of risk for storms. The area will cover most all
areas east of I-35 in Oklahoma. I know we have several members that are included in the area. So everyone stay weather aware! They said on local new this morning they are expected to start cropping up between 2 and 4pm.

Very happy to hear everyone is ok this morning. Prayers were said last night for those who lost their homes or were hurt by the tornadoes.

Sounds like you are prepped up Stormy, as usual. Keep an eye to your Mom and Dad. Tell them I said prayers for them.
