Its starting to warm up and the snakes are starting to move. Please be aware when you do yard clean up and move things that have been sitting all winter.

Our dog got bit last week and I killed the first copperhead of the year on the carport a couple of days later. I dropped a 5gal bucket of paint on its head and it was done in about a minute. After I had my coffee, I went out and the dog & three cats were just sitting there looking at the snake.......from about 10 feet away.

She is ok, was kinda puny for a day with a swollen leg. This ain't her first rodeo with a snake bite.

yea, I done seen a black snake in the yard and I'm watching for copperheads in the taller grass areas. We usually just use a shovel and chop their heads off lol no wasting of ammo that way lol

When I came back to work today after lunch, there was a dead rattlesnake laying on Main street in our small town. Yes, they are definitely on the move.

a few years ago I was using the tractor to spread some shredded bark mulch around the house when I started noticing some eggy-looking things. then I spotted some tiny little snakes with light-green tails. I looked in the snake-book and learned that I'd innoculated the whole place with Copperhreads aka Agkistrodon contortrix.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agkistrodon_contortrix

Agkistrodon contortrix is a species of venomous snake endemic to North America, a member of the Crotalinae (pit viper) subfamily. The common name for the species is the "copperhead." The behavior of Agkistrodon contortrix may lead to accidental encounters with humans. Five subspecies are currently recognized, including the nominate subspecies described here....

Finally got caught up on mowing and weed eating. Grass was getting tall from rain and the mower needing to be fixed. I was looking all around as I mowed and weedeated along creek bank.

We've been lucky here and have seen one garter snake and a rat snake. Plenty of evidence of two snakes in the shed and one in the well house because they always leave their skins for us.

Up the mtn it's copperhead country, usually see one every time we mow. Always a little unnerving when grass gets too high. With no one there 24/7 and no dogs we are seeing more copperheads.

No rattlesnakes sighted here but I now have a resident gopher snake. It's a real beauty and at least 4 feet long. This explains the disappearance of most of my chipmunks. And probably many other rodents. It is very welcome.

EEEEEwwwwwwwww.....I hate snakes. Been waiting to see how many come out of our woodpile this year. We have been averaging around 15 to 20 garter snakes for the past few summers. Our youngest dog likes to chase em. Had to shoot a big one last year that wouldn't run. Dh was worried she would get bit cause she wouldn't leave em alone. The big dog would just kill em but I don't think Sophie knows how to do that, "yet". Now Ashly the big Malamute is a different story.

Yuk.......one of the things I dislike about summer is snakes.

Sounds like you might want to import a king snake or a black snake to take care of the problem for you.
