NOPD Superintendent Ronal Serpas says that at least 12 people were shot at a Mother's Day second-line parade in the 7th Ward.

The youngest victim in the shooting was 10 years old.

Police say there were 200 people at the corner where shots rang out, and 300 to 400 people at the second line in all.

EMS took nine people to University Hospital; eight were suffering from gunshot wounds, while another was injured in a fall while escaping the shooting. Three of those victims who were shot are in critical condition.

There were about 10 cops on the scene trying to control the second line when the shooting happened. There were reportedly two different guns involved.

Police believe three suspects were involved. They were seen fleeing toward Claiborne Avenue."

The location says it all. Lousy area.

Twelve people are being treated for gunshot wounds following a shootout at a Mothers’ Day parade in New Orleans. The youngest victim in the surprise attack was 10 years old, according to a local resident.

Over 100 people were participating in the residential festival, on Frenchmen Street, in the north of the city, when several shots were fired. The incident occurred around 2pm local time on Sunday.

Police believe three suspects were responsible for the gunfire.

“The shots just started ringing out, and everybody just started running, and the next thing I heard, 10-15 people got shot,” one witness told local station WDSU.

Police confirmed the number of casualties stood at 12 following some discrepancies in initial hospital reports, suggesting that between five and 11 may have been injured.

No fatalities have been confirmed, but three are reportedly in a critical condition.

And these "gun owners" will not be affected at all by any new gun laws. Puke.

I never wanted to visit NO. Always seemed like a haunted place to me....
.

It kind of is, in a way. The history and ambiance was so precious to me. I wanted to live there since I was a little girl, and I did for many years. It became more and more dangerous in the early 90's, to an extent that I was no longer willing to deal with the complexities of living there. We moved to the subburbs and later to a bedroom community across the lake. I did continue to work in New Orleans for many years after moving out.

Now I'm content to live away in the peace and quiet of a very rural life. I go back to visit and that works for me.

Anywhere else, first thought could well be, it might be terrorism.

In Nawlins, it's got to be gang trash left over from Katrina.

Update: Police say 17 wounded in New Orleans parade shooting
- @AP

21 mins ago from abcnews.go.com by editor

------------

Gunmen opened fire on dozens of people marching in a Mother's Day second-line parade in New Orleans on Sunday, wounding at least 17 people, police said.

Police spokeswoman Remi Braden said in an email that many of the 17 victims were grazed and most of the wounds weren't life-threatening. No deaths were reported.

Police Superintendent Ronal Serpas told reporters that a 10-year-old girl was grazed in the shooting around 2 p.m. She was in good condition. He said three or four people were in surgery, but he didn't have their conditions.

Officers were interspersed with the marchers, which is routine for such events. As many as 400 people joined in the procession that stretched for about 3 blocks, though only half that many were in the immediate vicinity of the shooting, Serpas said.

Police saw three suspects running from the scene in the city's 7th Ward neighborhood. No arrests had been made as of late afternoon.

Second-line parades are loose processions in which people dance down the street, often following behind a brass band. They can be impromptu or planned and are sometimes described as moving block parties.

A social club called The Original Big 7 organized Sunday's event. The group was founded in 1996 at the Saint Bernard housing projects, according to its MySpace page.

The neighborhood where the shooting happened was a mix of low-income and middle-class row houses, some boarded up. As of last year, the neighborhood's population was about 60 percent of its pre-Hurricane Katrina level.

Police vowed to make swift arrests. Serpas said it wasn't clear if particular people in the second line were targeted, or if the shots were fired in a random fashion.

"We'll get them. We have good resources in this neighborhood," Serpas said.

In the late afternoon, the scene was taped off and police had placed bullet casing markers in at least 10 spots.

That didn't take long. The post about a false flag event meter being red! Hours???

Just may be and one would think only a mad man would open fire on a large group of people with no intended target or reason but just shoot at them. In this case there were two of them.

This wasn't a false flag, just run of the mill gun violence in a bad neighborhood. Very common in New Orleans. The local news usually leads off with a shooting or two each night.

Exactly. No second line or MLK parade is ever deemed a success without the requisite shootings. This happens at most second lines, the Mardi Gras Indians parade, and the MKL parade every year. It's usually not 19, but every event you can count on at least 3-5 getting injured/killed. Then the mayor and police chief take to the airwaves to plea for peace and trot out grieving mothers (extra air time if they wail and "fall out", no fathers are ever present) to talk about how horrible things are and how NOLA needs to do something for them. Never mentioned is the fact that these "activities" are always limited to a certain demographic. Growing up there, you know not to go anywhere near any of this. It's bad enough on a regular day. Unfortunately, good neighborhood vs bad neighborhoods in NOLA can vary by as little as one block.

I remember reading somewhere that New Orleans had one of the smallest per capita police forces in the whole country. Dial in massive corruption and incompetent liberal city leadership and you wind up with a hellhole like NO, Detroit and Chicago.

Remember how half the police force in NO didn't show up for duty after Katrina?

Half the police force in NO didn't show up for work before Katrina - they just drew their pay. Or SOMEONE drew their pay, anyway.

NO has always had one of the most if not the most corrupt PDs in the USA...

The Last Madam: A Life in the New Orleans Underworld

Book Description
Publication Date: March 22, 2012
Norma Wallace grew up fast in the rough neighborhoods of New Orleans. In 1916, as an ambitious fifteen-year-old, she went to work as a street-walker in the French Quarter, but by 1920 was madam of what became one of the city’s most lavish brothels, an establishment frequented by politicians, movie stars, gangsters, and even the notoriously corrupt police force. For decades Norma flourished, a smart, glamorous, powerful woman whose scandalous life made front-page headlines. Her lovers ran the gamut from a bootlegger who shot her during a fight, to a famed bandleader, to the boy next door, thirty-nine years her junior, who became her fifth husband.

Norma knew all of the Crescent City’s dirty little secrets and used them to protect her own interests – she never got so much as a traffic ticket – until the early 1960s, when District Attorney Jim Garrison decided to clean up vice and corruption. After a jail stay, she went legitimate as successfully as she had gone criminal, with a lucrative restaurant business. To the end Norma maintained her independence, and surrendered only to an irrational, obsessive love, which ultimately led to her violent death.

In The Last Madam, author Christine Wiltz combines original research with Wallace’s personal memoirs to bring to life an era in New Orleans history rife with charm and decadence, and to reveal the colorful woman who reigned as its underworld queen.

You have to wonder if there just isn't an effort by some group to get the government to end gun ownership regardless of what it takes. Far too much of this going on.
Conspiracy?

Nah. Just typical monkey business. The people involved in this aren't gun "owners". They are gun thieves. No gun laws, gun confiscations or anything like that will keep weapons out of their hands. The bystanders were all lucky that these idiots do not know how to shoot, else there would have been many more injured and killed. This is just part of the New Orleans "cultcha" and is only getting worse. These are homegrown terrorists born and bred, paid for by the taxpayers. This is the result of generational welfare given to a group of people that cannot behave in, nor adapt to, a civilized society. And instead of shaming them and setting higher expectations, our gov't and bleeding heart liberals just lower the bar for everyone.

Anderson Cooper on CNN just stated that the NO police are looking for three suspects. Then he went to a commercial.

Additional: Police offering ten thousand dollar reward. They do have a video. (Sound familiar?) Abdul Aziz, a photo journalist was about 25 feet away from the shooting, according to interview on CNN after the commercial. Aziz doesnt want to show his face due to possibility of acts of reprisal which he says are common in NOLA.

Another interview with police superintendant Ronald Surpass (sp)--is stating that they know who did it and he, if watching, needs to turn himself in. There will be an arrest shortly according to Surpass.

NOPD names suspect in second line shooting case
Arrest warrant issued

UPDATED 9:04 PM CDT May 13, 2013

NEW ORLEANS —Investigators have identified a suspect in connection with the mass shooting that sent 19 people, including two children, to the hospital on Mother's Day.

New Orleans Police Supt. Ronal Serpas said the department is searching for Akein Scott, 19.

Serpas said an arrest warrant has been issued for Scott, and said he was positively identified by more than one person.

Search warrants were executed at three addresses Monday night, where police hoped to find Scott. Those efforts were unsuccessful.

Serpas urged Scott to turn himself in to authorities.

"We are coming to find him. We will find him," Serpas said.

Scott has two previous arrests, according to sheriff's office records. In February of 2012, he was arrested and charged with illegal possession of a stolen firearm. In April of that year, the district attorney refused the charges.

In March of this year, he was arrested and charged with resisting an officer, illegally carrying weapons, possession of heroin and illegal possession of stolen firearms and illegally carrying weapons with controlled dangerous substance.

Based on court records, all the charges were refused except for illegally carrying a weapon with a controlled dangerous substance. His bond was set at $15,000 on that charge.

He was officially indicted on April 22 on that charge, records show. Her was set to appear in court on Thursday.

Its picture is at the link:

Mother's Day second-line shootings related to gang battle, authorities say

updated May 16, 2013 at 12:35 PM

Mayor Mitch Landrieu confirmed Thursday that a second suspect had been arrested in the Mother's Day second line shooting and New Orleans Police Superintendent Ronal Serpas said that four others were arrested for harboring suspects.

The second suspect arrested Thursday was identified as Shawn Scott, brother of Akein Scott, who was arrested Wednesday night and charged with 20 counts of attempted murder.

Authorities said the Scott brothers are members of the Frenchman and Derbigny gang and that the target of the attack was Leonard Epps, 35, who suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his upper torso. Police said Epps is in a gang known as the Deslonde Boys, based in the lower 9th Ward.

Serpas said the Scott brothers "worked together" in the attack.

According to court records, Shawn Scott pleaded guilty to a narcotics charge in 2008 and was sentenced to eight years of hard labor. He was out on parole at the time of his arrest until December 2015.

Three people remain in critical condition after the attack, Landrieu said at a news conference at Frenchman and North Villere streets, the scene of the attack Sunday. After originally reporting that 19 people were wounded in the mass shooting, Serpas says a 20th victim has been identified, which is why Akein Scott is charged with 20 counts of attempted murder.

While asking for prayers for all the victims, Landrieu said that the "culture of violence has become damaging and far reaching" in the city.
