Just opened the Hive, No bees, still some Honey...the local experts are telling us it's CCD ( Colony Collapse Disorder )! The word here is that it is happening everywhere around us!
so now we are starting over.......so sad.

The Bees Know
I'm so sorry to hear that, Dio!! If you haven't moved the hive, it might not be due to CCD, but the locals should know. It might be due to several reasons.

We lost 5 out of 6 hives over the last year, mainly because of a 2-year drought. One hive was a swarm that was caught, so it wasn't real strong to start with.

DH checked the remaining hive this afternoon. It is doing pretty good and looks healthy. He couldn't find any queen cells yet to do a split with, but put in a queen excluder, and will check again in a couple of weeks.

We've had to order new packages of bees several times. It seems like the price keeps going up, like everything else. It sucks, but the little buggers are kinda nice to have around! I hope we can keep this last hive going.

We have been trying to find a new Nuke and have one coming the end of May.
ZEveryone we know is losing thjier hives.......A friend lost all 3 hives...Its really strange, there is still honey, but no dead bodies and no sign of invasion from either bugs, mice, parasite or bacteria.....

Kind of like they flew off and never came back? Really sorry about this Dio, I have wanted to keep bees for a long time, never was in the right place to do so.

We lost a hive in the fall around the time of Storm Sandy. Same as you, honey in the boxes, but no sign of the bees. A mystery for sure. Our one other hive made it through the winter and seems to be doing ok. We are hoping for a warm, wind free day this coming weekend to get in the box and check.

It's real strange, last month, I put my ear to the hive and could hear thjem in there ( humming noise ). It finnaly got warm enough to open the hive and nothing.....Apearently this is the way it goes, I have now heard from 4 local bee operations from 3 to 200 hives and they all say they have had the same thing happen to varying degrees.

Lost 3. One had no bees in it, CCD but the other two I think just froze out this weather. I pre ordered 2 boxes of bees in Feb. and they are there and already set in their new home.

Went into Tractor supply - I don;t know maybe three years ago - asking for something for carpenter bees.

Floor guy proudly pointed to a sack of pesticide and said that'll kill every bee within three miles.

knowing what bees do for us I back slowly away - like one would do for a madman.

Learned to live with the carpenter bees I did - but I dare-say I know what is happening to the honey bees.

Can anyone say montsano or is that insaneo?
