My father in law fell at Christmas and broke his hip. He went from the hospital to the rest home during Christmas where he still remains.
My mother in law had COPD and it was bad so she also ended up in the rest home with the father in law within a few weeks of his entry. It took some finagling but we were able to get them into the same room. The COPD got real bad in the last few days and last night she struggled to breath for hours before giving up this morning. I knew she was going. Everybody else had the impression it would be a while. They all saw heavy breathing. I saw a struggle to bring air in with no expansion of the lungs. You do not live long without air. Convinced my wife I was right so she spent the night and was there for her. She is glad of that and this may have saved me from the meal I will mention later in this post. Will be burying her Tuesday.
My mother fell dancing at 70 years old right after the first of the year. Broke her bones under her right shoulder blade. Two steel plates and a bunch of screws are holding her together. She is a tough old cookie. They wanted her to lay around for about six months. Instead she was back out dancing about 3 weeks later despite the pain in her back shoulder area. She said if I do what they say I will never recover because I am to old to loose that much time from moving around. She is doing well but very limited in motion on the bad side. She still works and they gave her the go ahead months early because she insisted on getting back at it.
My wife had a gall bladder attack several weeks ago. I thought it was gas and told her to lay down a while and she would be OK. Ended up she had a very very sick gall bladder that was removed and was full of stones. They said it was one of the worst they have seen. If anyone could please give me some advice on how to prepare crow it would definitely be appreciated and I am not looking forward to the meal. She was sent home and became in far more pain than before the surgery. Took her back to the hospital. After tests and more probing and tests it was determined she had a blockage in the tube running from her liver to her stomach. After another surgery and a total of 5 days in the hospital we finally made it home with her now feeling better than she has in a few years.
Recently my brother fell about 20 feet and landed on his foot which is now broken/shattered and severely damaged. Not sure yet what the outcome will be but the prognosis for his foot is very bad. Time will tell depending on how well his old tired body can recover.
My son has been doing lots of exercise lately and been sweating a lot. He is a beast and very healthy however this morning while at the rest home just after my mother in law died he had a very bad spell. He has depleted his potassium and electrolytes over the last few weeks. He about past out and has been weak all day. He will be fine but you always worry about your kids.
We have a wedding scheduled to do video for tomorrow. 6 hours and it is outside in the hot sun all day for us. We really have no choice. These people are counting on us to capture this special time for them and we can not let them down. However if it comes down to it I will be going it alone and give it to them for a huge discount. My son is drinking lots of fluids and pedialyte.
We have been setting up the funeral today as well.
I will let you know if things get any worse.
