And you thought the iPad was insanely great.

Apple’s chief designer and scion of cool Jonathan Ive told London paper the Telegraph that neither the iPad nor the Macintosh nor the iPhone is the most important product the company has ever done.

It's the secret something he’s currently working on that has his heart racing.

“What we’re working on now feels like the most important and the best work we’ve done,” Ive told the paper, when asked what he would like to be remembered for.

“It would be what we’re working on right now, which of course I can’t tell you about.”

Ive, who has worked at Apple since 1992 and has headed up design for the company since 1997, was in London to receive an honorary knighthood, something he called an “incredibly humbling” experience.

His design studio on Apple’s Cupertino campus, a short drive from the San Francisco home where he lives with his wife Heather and two children. What goes on there is very much a secret, the Telegraph reported, noting that only select employees are even allowed inside the office, which has tinted windows and is filled with machines for designing and prototyping Apple’s various products.

Is Ive touting the unannounced successor to the iPhone? Rumors have swirled about the company’s plans for the next generation iPhone, the latest suggesting that "iPhone 5" will sport a a larger screen at least 4-inches diagonally.

Production is set to begin next month for the screens, people familiar with the company’s plans said recently, suggesting that the Californian company is trying to make its popular smartphone more appealing amid intensifying competition from rival Samsung Electronics.

Or maybe not.

Digitimes, a Taiwanese tech site that often begins such rumors, thanks to deep connections with Apple’s Taiwanese supply chains, recently explained that those rumors often represent prototypes that never become final shipping products.

“Apple have a lot of its R&D projects and ideas tried out at its supply chain partners in Asia,” Digitimes deputy managing editor Joseph Chan told Time. “Many of the prototypes created by the supply chain partners will never make it to the market after Apple’s assessments.”

Whatever it is, Ive is clearly excited by this secret gizmo. But is the company’s next iSomething really that revolutionary?

iDunno.

But iWant.

I wouldn't be that psyched about yet another iPhone. Smartphones are pretty common now, not much innovation left in the market. Now if they were going to release some sort of "wearable" technology that gets us closer to cybernetics, THAT would be exciting.

How about a 3-D ink-jet printer with a Iphone interface Scan an object with your Iphone and the printer will make it.

Ive would not make that statement about some incremental technology, only about something radically different or a giant leap foward

I'm betting on something with a 3-D holographic display...

or skipping the obvious a 4D type interface with features unimaginable in your small universal mind, maybe holographic, yes holograms, a ghostly blast from the past, need reviving in a modern context

I would guess with 99% certainty that would NOT be it. Based on my time with the company that is just NOT something Apple would market for so many reasons.

It's the I-TV ..your onestop internet/entertainment/ gaming system complete with motionsensor technology for ease of use (like wii, or tome cruise in..minority report?) and also a controller that is an i-pad/phone/lap top/ desktop interface right in your hand.

They want all TV, Movies, and filmed entertainment to be online 24-7 so you can watch years of the simpsons or ER in a row, anytime either by subscription, or billed by megabyte...

The want to keep the sheeple GLUED to the easiest most entertaining fun/ fast/ decadent brain-rot sh!t and placate us and keep us in our houses and staring at soaps and sitcoms and not realise they are stealing the future and killing capitalism/ freedom...

yI bet its the TV/cable/internet/ interface... you heard it here:)

They probably have nothing but the publicity keeps their name in your face.

Maybe, but Apple doesn't really need to do that. It's products are everywhere. It's one of the largest companies in the world. Even back 20 years ago it was one of the 10 most recognizable brands in the world. Everyone is wondering what will happen now that Steve Job's is gone. I'm not sure they need to try to hard to drum up PR.

Yeah, that's what comes to my mind, too....

I understand the Biblical impact of that..........but there is something else they intend to do that is related to that..................but I think we are a bit premature for them to annouce it right as of yet............ however its coming soon.........

That is a chip complex implanted in the brain that allows all the functions of a heads up Iphone within your field of vision via a cymbionic thought command...........

Don't laugh.......

......they already use implanted brain chips to help Alzhemiers patients.....

... and the military has cymbionic thought command on firing mechanisms with fighter pilots on F-22s.............

We are close to this stuff being a reality..................God help us with the darkside of such developments...........

Another toy to amuse in a long line of toys back to the dawn of cell phones.

Just another toy to amuse the masses.

Pretty cynical the bit about cellphones wouldn't you say? A basic cellphone servers a pretty important purpose even if it's only to call for help in an emergency.
