REVOLUTION

NBC Mondays, 10/9C this fall

"Our entire way of life depends on electricity. So what would happen if it just stopped working? Well, one day, like a switch turned off, the world is suddenly thrust back into the dark ages. Planes fall from the sky, hospitals shut down, and communication is impossible. And without any modern technology, who can tell us why?

Now, 15 years later, life is back to what it once was long before the industrial revolution: families living in quiet cul-de-sacs, and when the sun goes down, the lanterns and candles are lit. Life is slower and sweeter. Or is it?

On the fringes of small farming communities, danger lurks. And a young woman's life is dramatically changed when a local militia arrives and kills her father, who mysteriously - and unbeknownst to her - had something to do with the blackout. This brutal encounter sets her and two unlikely companions off on a daring coming-of-age journey to find answers about the past in the hopes of reclaiming the future.

From director Jon Favreau ("Iron Man," "Iron Man 2") and the fertile imaginations of J.J. Abrams and Eric Kripke ("Supernatural"), comes a surprising "what if" action-adventure series, where an unlikely hero will lead the world out of the dark. Literally."

I did not see this yesterday on here but found it elsewhere. I thought about posting it here but decided someone else would. I will watch it, sounds interesting.

Go ahead and get even more predictive programming. Turn the f**#ing TV OFF! Think! Jealously guard the doors to your mind.

Does everybody go stupid when the electricity goes out?
I saw the trailer and went Huh?

Nothing would permanently take out a small engine unless the flow of any electrical device was sucked away. Then there would be no lightning.

Dams would still produce electricity locally. It would have to be watched closer. We had electricity long before computers.

What about steam power?
Planes can fly with steam engines even.
Industry could be brought back with steam power.
There has to be thousands of miles of hose for compressed air. A factory could be run with steam powered compressors.

Just more doom candy for the brain dead.
No TV reception here and I will not waste band width on the computer to watch it.
There is a little daylight left. If the bugs aren't too bad, I will get back to the garden.

It's just another series on TV. They try to come up with end times stuff that will make all the chillin' happy. Except those who know better. :)

This crossed my mind as well BW...electricity as we all here know can be produced in many ways so it seems far fetched to lose all power completly forever...

What got my attention was the jet airliner spinning down out of control, these large a/c do glide some don't they?

I will watch it, for how long I don't know. SIRR1

Looks interesting, and I'll watch it.

Anyone that wants to read a good book on what would happen if the lights went out, I would recommend "Dies the Fire" by S.M. Stirling.

and also "One Second After" by William Forstchen

LOL! Might not be realistic but it could intrigue some DGI's enough to make them think about possibilities.

I'll check it out for pure entertainment value and see how it goes. It is worth a chance at least and can't be any worse than all the reality TV currently available.

Oh man... it's a JJ Abrams series!

Thank you very much for the heads up!

Not sure why planes fell from the sky but...

... there is no doubt that if this ever occurs the average life of any survivor requires a new set of skills.

If it's based on "Dies the Fire," everything electrical / engine / gunpowder based stopped working after a bright flash of light and no one ever knew why. They just had to deal with the aftermath and survive.

That sounds like a book I just read - "A Distant Eden".
