Updated at 11:45 p.m. ET: NORTH BEND, Wash. -- King County sheriff and Seattle police SWAT teams are pumping more tear gas into an underground bunker in the Rattlesnake Ridge wilderness area where they believe Peter Keller, the prime suspect in the murders of his wife and daughter, remains holed up.

Police are using robotic cameras to take a sneak peak in the bunker in preparation for what could be a long, tense standoff through the night.

Tactical teams fired the first round of tear gas into the bunker near the Rattlesnake Ridge trail around 2 p.m. Friday, but Keller did not surrender. Police said the bunker appears to be well fortified and Keller is likely wearing a gas mask.
Police have seen and heard movement in the bunker and believe Keller is inside. They also believe he is heavily armed and likely has the bunker booby-trapped.

"Our tactical teams are using extreme caution," said King County Sheriff Steve Strachan.

Sheriff’s detectives found clues to the whereabouts of the Cascade Mountains foothills bunker after investigators processed the crime scene at the burned house where his wife and daughter were murdered. They found photos of the bunker on a computer hard drive and discs.
"It apparently was intended to be burned in the fire, but they were not burned because the fire department got there too quick and the neighbors called too quickly, and in fact the hard drives were preserved," said Strachan.

Based on the photos, detectives believe Keller has been building the elaborate bunker for at least 8 years. The bunker is fortified by logs, dirt and is very well hidden. SWAT teams at the scene believe the bunker could have multiple levels.

From one photo, investigators were able to discern power lines and signficant landmarks in the background. That information, along with tips from people who had seen Keller’s red truck at the western Rattlesnake Ridge Trailhead over the past year, helped investigators narrow their search.

Early Friday morning, Seattle Police SWAT teams began a systematic search on foot of the Rattlesnake Ridge Trailhead. They spotted fresh deep footprints about 800 yards away from the trail, which indicated someone had been carrying a heavy load recently.

"This isn't a hole in the ground. This is a built-up structure, but hidden. It took some time to find it," said Strachan. "In fact, our tactical team smelled the wood smoke coming before they actually saw it."

From there, SWAT teams deployed tear gas, but Keller remained inside, likely armed with gas masks and weaponry. Strachan said he's never seen anything quite like it.

"If this was a training exercise, it would be almost be too much, be almost not realistic because there were so many challenges, between an individual who committed two murders, who had Kevlar vests, scope rifles, a fortified bunker in the woods," said Strachan.

Police believe Keller murdered his wife, Lynnettee, and his 18-year-old daughter, Kaylene, in their home near North Bend last Sunday. Kaylene and Lynette were shot in the head and their home was set on fire.

"Based on the facts that we have right now, we believe that violent death came to Lynnettee and Kaylene unexpectedly in their home from a family member who had been familiar and trusted," Strachan said at a news conference.

Probable cause documents reveal Keller said he was "preparing for the end of the world" and had often carried supplies to a "fort in the woods." Court documents also reveal that:

•The fire was set by placing a plastic gas can into a skillet on the stove and turning on the burner
•Keller was known to have a gun collection and body armor
•All the weapons were missing from the home
•Keller had withdrawn $6,200 in cash from his bank account on Friday
•The safe in the home was left open, as was the door of a shed
•Keller purchased a new laptop computer within the last two weeks
•Keller's mountain bike is missing
Family members said Keller, considered a capable and well-equipped outdoorsman, has a "survivalist mentality" and a "distaste for authority." Authorities consider Keller armed and extremely dangerous.

Investigators have posted posters at many trailheads near North Bend in the I-90 corridor, asking if anyone has spotted Keller's truck, but also warning people to not go near him and instead immediately call 911.

Rattlesnake Ridge Trailhead is closed to the public, but other trails remained open, said West.

I was driving back home up toward Snoqualmie Pass yesterday morning after a quicky run to Costco when I looked over at the exit 27 and saw a load of Sheriff vehicles and a KIRO TV van with the radar up with crime tape cordoning off the area where you take a right up the hill to the Rattlesnake lake trails and I *knew* then that they most likely had found the dumb ass.

I gotta tell ya, my cats cover they're sh*t better in the litter box than this psycho did covering his tracks and I am sooo glad they found him. They just now need to flush him out by either fill the bolt hole with water or dirt.

People here in town knew that 'if' he was not caught, he could not go to a store to buy anything but he would most likely be breaking into homes in the area to do his 'shopping'.

I heard the sirens the morning that this all started when after the fire to his home was reported and I'm still in shock over what he did to Kaylene and Lynette. Just so deeply saddened and shocked.

Yeah, I hope they fill it with water to flush this 'human colostomy bag' out. V

If they take him alive (which I doubt) he'll have lots of time to consider his errors.

There weird thing about this when the story first broke on the news, they didn't know he was a suspect yet but were trying to find him and so they gave out the description of their vehicle and the license number to the car which was 911YWK.

I was so shocked when I saw this and I told my husband and that I remember that car because when I go to Safeway to buy groceries (I live up the towards the Pass and it's the closest grocery around), I like to park in the lot on the south side of the building so my car doesn't get door dinged. And I remember that car with several people in it who for some reason, sent my 'internal alarm system' going off so I wrote the license number down when I got inside so if they keyed my car or something like that, I would at least have a tag number etc. The guy in the driver's seat just gave off a vibe like there wasn't something 'right' with him.

This was back a several months ago.

It was The same vehicle the King co. Sheriff's office were looking for. V

Just as a mental exercise...

Howdy, Folks!

Wouldn't it be interesting if the authorities were attempting to enter into the bunker...and this guy actually isn't there?

•Keller's mountain bike is missing

If I were this fellow, I'd make it look like I was in the bunker, get folks *real* interested in directing all their attention to it, and...I'd get on my very quiet Mountain Bike and pedal my ass away from there.

The keen sense of a woman's intuition always amazes me. The book "The Gift of Fear" written by Gavin de Becker, explores this. When we get that "feeling" we must pay attention to it.

What's the opposite of survivalist?

Fatalist?

a doctrine that events are fixed in advance so that human beings are powerless to change them.

Not quite there.

Suicidalist?

DS this crossed my mind as well that he exited out a back door of the bunker and down the mountain.

I also liked the idea of bringing in the Fired Department and flooding the bunker with water. Eventually he would pop up out of the bunker like a fish bobber.

Just wondering if this was an old mine he converted into a shelter?

Oh and placing a full plastic gas can in a skillet on the burner of the kitchen stove is down rite nasty way to torch a home, never thought about doing that before...

We do not know that he murdered anyone!
When has the media ever told the truth?
He was murdered by a local chapter of the worlds largest street gang for being a suspect.

We are all suspects. Does this justify execution?
They could have waited him out.

This is vey posable and he could have been away working on his bunker and going back and forth to work from there.

When they blew a portion of the lid off his bunker, they found a body, a pistol and a pool of blood.

They have enough evidence to know that he executed/murdered his daughter, wife and the family cat and dog. I do know some of the King Co. LEO's who are over there right now off of exit 27 on I-90 and they are of very high integrity. I would trust them with my life.

KIRO TV a local news station in Seattle has been out there at the road block since around 5am-ish yesterday before this even hit the news. They had they're van with radar dish up and were part of the cordoned off section blocking the road. I know this because I drove right past/next to them going into North Bend from the south side of town via the exit that is used to get to the Snoqualmie Tribes casino. The Sheriff's office had asked the media to please not report this yet because they were still dealing with the newly found bunker.

Keller shot both his daughter and wife in the head while they were each in their own bedrooms which makes me think that he did this while they were still sleeping. The neighbor called the fire dept. reporting smoke coming out of the roof vents and that was around 8:30am last Sunday morning. I heard the sirens. Alot of sirens that morning. V

Here is the updated news story from the Seattle Times with pics of the place. *Fair Use* applies http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2018093698_bunker29m.html

NORTH BEND — Survivalist and murder suspect Peter Keller is believed to be dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in a bunker he built in the woods over eight years.

Law enforcement officers blew a portion of the lid off the bunker this morning and found a body, a pistol and a pool of blood inside, according to King County sheriff Steve Strachan.

Officers discovered his hideout in a remote area about a mile east of the Rattlesnake Ridge trailhead Friday. SWAT team members surrounding the bunker Friday heard popping noises that could have been gunshots, according to the sheriff's department, but it's not clear exactly when the man died. V

We could learn a lot from the mistakes he made with his bunker there is always something to be learned. He had taken pictures of his bunker and put them on his computer so they new exactly where to look. The people that keep posting pictures of their bunkers, weapons and other prep items are complete Idiots. You might as well draw them a map with a big red X saying "I am here". He was a Wack job and probably needed killing, as the Texas judge said "I have never seen a horse that need stealing but I have seen a lot of men that needed killing".

He was a complete Wack Job and we are all breathing a big sigh of relief that he's no longer a threat to anyone. We were all wondering if/when he'd do his 'shopping' by breaking into our houses in the middle of the night. My backyard butts up to the Snoqualmie/Mt. Baker National Forest. Luckily he was on the other side of I-90 and to our astonishment, further west.

When we heard he had a bunker at the Rattlesnake lake trailhead area, we thought, "What a complete and utter idiot! Too many people hiking there All the time and off the trails too!" seeing the location he picked, I can't but think that somewhere in his subconcious, he truly wanted to get caught. V

It is much, much more likely that the authorities triangulated or obtained his location from a cellphone, or his auto onstar signal than got it from a picture on his computer.(unless he was SO friggin stupid that he ALSO put the GPS address of his hideout on the computer too.) Anyone THAT STUPID, guilty or innocent, gets what comes from that mistake.

It is ONE thing to have a "bug out" or other fortified location at which you hope to defend yourself from marauding gangs of desperate people and QUITE ANOTHER THING TO FOOLISHLY IMAGINE YOU CAN RESIST THE OVERWHELMING POWER OF THE AUTHORITIES......you can't....don't be so foolish as to even try. You WILL DIE, virtually always, unless they LET you live.

I'm pretty certain he was speaking in regards to peoples that had tons of other options. Or, he was speaking with his balls as opposed to his brains.

Not one man.

Patton was all cool and everything, but I wouldn't necessarily put him on a pedestal just because of 'one liners'.

So what's a nigga gonna' do? NOT have a home? NOT have a place to retreat to?

I give up.
We'll never know now, but I wonder why his wife and daughter didn't leave him. Surely they knew how crazy he was? Do you know, Vessie?

I find it amusing how so many come to conclusions from so little and controlled information,
What if he was running because he was set up to make survivalists all look bad?
