I'm curious. Cite some sources for this transmutation of matter "into heat" There's thermal radiation from the bomb that's of course going to burn and vaporize matter, but how is the bomb converting matter, other than a portion of its own fuel, or the secondary stage of a fusion weapon, into energy?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Trinity_Test_-_Oppenheimer_and_Groves_at_Ground_Zero_002.jpg

Oppenheimer and Groves at the remnant of the Trinity shot tower, ground zero. The rest of the tower ended up as particles in the fireball ("Fallout") They didn't cease to exist, they just changed form

In theory, it should be possible to convert all of the mass in matter into heat and light (which would of course have the same mass), but none of the theoretically known methods are practica

>Again I ask---where do you think all this "high-level radiation" is going RIGHT NOW???

It's NOT being shot all at once directly into the jetstream, which is al a nuke would do

Not to mention that the Japanese Diet would have to legalize hari kari for PM Kan, his entire cabinet and the senior execs of TEPCO, at a minimum.

If they calculated the math and decided a course of action which was to their best interests, it would be their decision. The USA would act under their (The Government of Japan) specifications.

More on the boron.

From: http://english.kyodonews.jp/news/2011/03/78464.html

"S. Korea to ship boron to Japan to stabilize nuclear reactors

SEOUL, March 16, Kyodo

South Korea plans to transfer its reserve of boron to Japan to help its neighbor stabilize quake-damaged nuclear reactors, the government said Wednesday.

State-run Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Co., which operates South Korea's 21 commercial reactors, plans to ship its reserve boron to

Japan in the next few days, Yonhap News Agency reported.

Japan requested South Korea's provision of the material vital for stopping fission nuclear reactions after its own stockpile was largely used up at the Fukushima nuclear power plant.

Much better numbers.

From: http://english.kyodonews.jp/news/2011/03/78481.html

"URGENT: Radiation briefly topped 10 millisievert at Fukushima plant

TOKYO, March 16, Kyodo

The radiation level at the quake-hit Fukushima No.1 nuclear power plant reached 10 millisievert per hour at one point Wednesday morning, possibly due to the damage at its No.2 reactor the day before, the government's nuclear safety agency said.

The maximum level was measured at the plant's front gate at 10:40 a.m. It fell to 6.4 millisievert at 10:45 a.m. and to 2.3 millisievert at 10:54 a.m. but rose again to about 3.4 millisievert as of 11:00 a.m., the Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency said.

I believe No. 3 is in the foreground and No. 4 is in the background.

I agree JT.

That picture is looking toward the SouthWest at reactor # 4.
You can see the "two pipe" exhaust stack beyond the damaged building, a single pipe one just to the right on THIS side of the reactor building.

I can't tell if the building in the foreground is #3 reactor building or some kind of auxilliary building.

If that is #3, I wouldnt be surprised if the spent fuel pool AND the reactor containment are in fact damaged.

Yep, I have moved to the dark side !!

I suspect that seeing the word "abandoned" in multiple headlines has gotten to the folks at TEPCO.

"HirokoTabuchi

2. Repeating: Fukushima plant was never abandoned. Workers outside were told to take cover indoors, but never left - TEPCO spox Tanaka Ai. 5 minutes ago via web

3. Contrary to some reports, a core group of workers remain at the Fukushima Daiichi plant. It is not abandoned. about 1 hour ago via web

I gotta say, I can't take much more of this crap. As was stated in an earlier post on this thread, if a Sci-fi movie were proposed using this as the script, it would never be made. NO ONE would believe it. And yet every day (and in some cases every hour) we're seeing a larger disaster unfold. My nerves are absolutely shot. And I'm not kidding.

I left the PC for 20 minutes when they said the operators had been evacuated.

My brain couldn't process that concept.

This whole event has thousands of details that will only come out years from now. Probably many books will be written.

I'm really proud of the chonicle we have established here in the meantime.

Good work folks!

A little bit of thread drift, but my Nukalert is now sounding off one chirp about every ten to twenty seconds or so. It is sitting on a window sill (window is open); this unit has never alerted before.

Just out of curiousity, I have been walking around the house with it. It still alerts every 15 to 30 seconds, but when I went out into the back yard it went to chirping every ten seconds. I know my husband has an old radiotion detector (one of those yellow CD jobs) but I have no idea where it is. I will mount a search for it in the morning and change the battery out to see what it reads.
