OT/MISC I just had a cat burglar.

Security company calls and says the system is going off at my house. I head home to meet the cops.

Nobody is there, fortunately, although there have been some break-ins in the neighborhood.

Ordered a new computer last week, and you know how large those printer boxes are? I left them in the living room, where the cats have been playing in them all weekend. I'm sure you can see where this is going.

Somehow the little bastards (I mean, those sweet little furry creatures) pushed the big box all the way through the dining room and living room and down the hall. The big box sliding down the hall was enough to trip the motion sensor and send the security system howling. They were curled up in the box when I got home.

The deputy took a look around and stood there laughing while I explained to CPI Home Security. The cats and the dog sat there with innocent faces, blinking at me. "What did we do, Mommy?"

Cute story. However, I have known more than one person with security systems get warned about by cops about being called out on false alarms. They may not show up when the alarm is for real. Maybe you should remove those boxes.

Motion detectors are so yesterday... :D

The fad today is to install "pressure sensors" under the floor. These are sensitive enough to pick up anyone walking in the room, but they ignore pets. Even large pets, or large things small pets may push around....

And they are truly "stealth". A motion detector is still "a box on the wall"...

We have 2 cats that hate each other. They too set off the motion detector. The police responded but were not as amused. We do not leave both cats in the house when we are away any longer. The motion detector is not suppost to be set off unless something at least 40lb is moving about. So much for that claim:shr:

Or producing the heat of a 40 pound object. Playing cats generate a lot of heat.

Or better yet,

Stereo Phased Array microwave radar. It allows for not only position and motion detection, but also object size detection. Plus it can see the intruder before they gain entry, through the outside walls. It can see through darkness, smoke, and even CO2 (try that PIR).

And it can be built into/behind the wallboard.
