...POTENTIAL FOR A SIGNIFICANT SNOWSTORM SOUTH OF THE HAL ROGERS
PARKWAY AND NEAR THE VIRGINIA BORDER FRIDAY AND FRIDAY NIGHT...

A DEVELOPING WINTER STORM WILL BRING THE POTENTIAL FOR SIGNIFICANT
SNOW TO EAST KENTUCKY BY THE END OF THE WEEK. ALTHOUGH MUCH REMAINS
UNCERTAIN WITH THE TRACK AND MAGNITUDE OF THIS WEATHER SYSTEM...IT
DOES APPEAR THAT A GOOD PORTION OF THE AREA WILL SEE SOME
ACCUMULATING SNOW ON FRIDAY INTO SATURDAY. THE SNOW IS EXPECTED TO
MOVE INTO THE REGION EARLY FRIDAY FROM THE SOUTHWEST AND THEN
GRADUALLY SPREAD NORTH. IT APPEARS LIKELY THAT THE CURRENT STORM
TRACK WOULD GIVE LOCATIONS ALONG THE TENNESSEE BORDER THE HIGHEST
SNOW ACCUMULATIONS THROUGH SATURDAY...GENERALLY IN THE 4 TO 8 INCH
RANGE...WITH AMOUNTS DECREASING TO THE NORTH. THE HIGHEST TOTALS
ALONG THE BORDER COULD BE CUT DOWN BY BRIEF PERIODS OF SLEET DURING
THE HEIGHT OF THE STORM.

THE BIGGEST IMPACTS FROM THIS STORM WILL LIKELY AFFECT TRAVEL...AND
THE NATURE OF THIS SNOW SHOULD NOT BE AS HEAVY OR WET AS THE
DEVASTATING SNOW STORM IN DECEMBER OF 2009. AN ARCTIC AIRMASS WILL
ALSO WORK ITS WAY INTO THE REGION BY SATURDAY AND SATURDAY
NIGHT...WITH TEMPERATURES FORECAST TO BE IN THE SINGLE DIGITS BY DAWN
ON SUNDAY. THIS COULD POSE A SIGNIFICANT DANGER TO STRANDED MOTORISTS
OR RESIDENTS WITHOUT POWER.

UNFORTUNATELY...THERE IS STILL TOO MUCH UNCERTAINTY IN THE COMPUTER
MODEL GUIDANCE TO PROVIDE ANY MORE FORECAST SPECIFICS. AT THIS
STAGE...A CHANGE IN THE PROJECTED PATH OF THE SYSTEM/S AREA OF LOW
PRESSURE BY JUST A COUPLE OF DOZEN MILES TO THE NORTH OR SOUTH WILL
HAVE A MAJOR EFFECT ON THE RESULTING WEATHER. HOWEVER WITH TIME...AS
THE SYSTEM FULLY CONSOLIDATES AND MOVES TOWARD THE REGION...MUCH MORE
WILL BECOME CLEAR. THIS WILL LEAD TO HIGHER CONFIDENCE IN THE
EFFECTS OF THIS STORM.

STAY TUNED TO NOAA WEATHER RADIO OR YOUR LOCAL MEDIA OUTLETS FOR
FURTHER UPDATES AND ALSO POSSIBLE WATCHES AND WARNINGS CONCERNING
THIS DEVELOPING WINTER WEATHER SITUATION.

A disruptive winter storm will really get under way on Thursday across the South Central states. It will be cold enough for disruptive snow and an icy mix to fall on the northern edge, while drenching rain and severe storms hit areas farther south. Howling winds will add to the troublesome weather.

Heavy snow will fall from southern Colorado, eastern New Mexico and the Texas Panhandle to southern Missouri. Up to a foot of snow will fall in the heaviest corridor, while strong winds create blowing snow that makes travel even more dangerous.

A threatening icy mix will spread over areas farther south, creating very slick travel and even cutting power in some communities.

Today in NW-NC, 44 & sunny, tomorrow 53 and sunny... Friday thru Sunday, wintry mix and temps below freezing. Y-all up north may laugh, but here than means working outside in t-shirts then damn cold... very easy to get sick in temp swings like this.

I would rather have snow then ice any time. We had rain all day on Monday and it turned the snowpack into an icy mess on the side roads. It took 4, 5gal buckets of sand to tame it down enough for me to move around out there with the new pup. I even wore my cleats yesterday walking the two dogs.

I would really LIKE about 4 to 6 inches on top of this stuff so I don't have to wear cleats anymore. It's tough on my old knees.

pretty much have the hatches all battened down here. going to bring down a tractor bucket of wood for indoors this afternoon and we'll be good to go.
or good to "stay" as the case may be.

calling for ice/sleet/4-8" of snow here in north central arkie as of this am.

DW works Fri, Sat, Sun and Mondays so we'll see how that goes.

supposed to begin here tonight with one-quarter to three-quarter inches of freezing rain.... that oughta knock out most of the electric lines around here. Thursday is supposed to start with sleet and snow... up to 8 inches forecasted this morning, but I guess it all depends on how quicckly it passes over.... I really don't mind the snow, but the ice is another story.

We're as ready for it as can be.... lots of wood in the house, camp stove and fuel where we can quickly get to it, lanterns at the ready, full pantry. Today the rabbits will get extra hay in their boxes. Don't have to be anywhere so we plan to hunker down and wait it out.

Here in central OK they've been warning of upcoming power outages due to wind and ice. Supposed to start Thursday and go through Friday.

We dodged a bullet during the Christmas snow because it was just snow.

My part of east TN is supposed to get it all - rain, sleet, snow and freezing rain, probably in that order.

My hubby is stacking some wood close to the house and today I'm going to trim the wicks on the lamps. We'll spend the weekend listening to the scanner as the cops try to take care of the idiots who just had to be out driving in it.

Well . . here in Lincoln County New Mexico, Sacramento and Capitan Mountains - south central NewMexico, we are supposed to get 12-18 inches of snow or more depending on elevation andstorm track, beginning this evening. The storm will DUMP on us overnight and into Thursday afternoon BUT continue snowing into Friday afternoon.

Basically, our weather people have told us that my area will be the main target area of the storm coming out of the west as it travels through our state, and it's possible those estimated snowfall numbers could easily double.

Wonnerful, wonnerful, wonnerful . . I have had my fill of this winter, El Nino has been kicking our butts here, this is the 4th storm to DUMP on us here. My snow shovel is booking a flight to some beautiful tropical location as I type . .

Hey Paulding Babe, you're gonna love this....

the WSB noon news just said they think the freezing rain will be confined to around Blairsville and extreme north of the state, BUT, they are keeping a VERY close eye on this system as it evolves especially for late Friday into Saturday morning.
She had that cautious, we ain't so sure tone.

They are saying snow and freezing rain for my area. The snow is ok, but that freezing rain can cause a lot of damage.

I am listening to WGN tv (to try to hear what they say about the gunman at the University) and I heard their weather guy say Mammoth Ice storm around the Texas Oklahoma border.

Yep, North Alabama is in the path of the ice storm too. But they still don't know yet how much or exactly when.

I'll get all my wood needs close to the house, get chain saw gased and sharpened, and just kick back and enjoy the weather event.

My 24 yr old son is in East TN right now visiting friends, due to come home this weekend. He will be traveling through KY on his way back. I'm a nervous Nellie Mom to begin with and now I will totally have no fingernails left until the kid walks in the door. Please pray for the spawnling's safety.
I will be praying for you who are in KY and TN that this is not a repeat of that terrible storm that walloped the area in 2008 (?) When we stopped in London, KY, this past year a few people we talked to were still reminiscing about how bad the ice damage was.

I am well set in my new rental. I just figure I am going to be stuck working a lot of overtime this weekend because I will get to work while lots of other folks won't go out and defrost their car.

In a way I am glad because it gives me lots of overtime but it can suck when some of that overtime is mandatory.

My jeep does amazingly well in bad weather, it has a complicated awd/4x4 system but the last ice and snow storm taught me that it is well worth it when I can get to work without much stress and other people had trouble just getting down the road to work let alone some of the back roads.

Here we go again!

Checking in from NW Arkansas here. We are expecting up to 1 to 1.5" of ice-- depending on which weather model you believe.

It's unreal. This storm will hit one year- to the day, I believe- since the awful ice storm we got last year that devastated our trees and powerlines here in Arkansas and in Kentucky and Tennessee. Talk about deja vu! :spns:

I've just got a few more things I want to do in preparation, but everything I really need is already in place. I'm betting the stores are going to be crazy! Glad I won't be joining them! :)

Thats a great idea Diamonds!

I think we will pick up a few movies Thursday to beat the rush make a pot of chili and get ready to hunker down.

It looks as if we are on the Northern edge of this storm so here is the forcast for STL.

The forcast for St. Louis is 2-4 inches of snow by Friday but, the weather babe stated that the Low has not yet cleared the Rockies and and a 50 mile wobble of the Low could add lots of snow or no snow at all? :shr:

Damn I wish I was paid 6 figures and get to make a forcast like that... Hell I could have done that forcast just by reading the weather maps on my computer!

So it pretty clear they don't want to go out on a limb and forcast a bunch of snow and then get none.

That happens a lot here in STL, the forcast calls for flurries and we get 4 inches.

got the wood in today, with DW's help. got the dodge truck, "Mr. Cummins", plugged in and turned around to head out and the jeep in the garage headed out.
think I'll start the genny's tomorrow and check the charge in back up batteries for TV/puter use.

got beer, got smokes, got wood, got DW, bring it on. :)
(ok, just kidding about the "bring it on" part. I could live fine without any ice storm and deep snows)

I am worried about the ice again for Ky and Tenn,.

I am just praying that we DON'T get a repeat of last years ice storm. :shkr::shkr: We are all stocked up and ready for it. So far they are saying around 8" of blowing snow or more and 1/2" ice too.
