…… What Powdered Fruit Drink To Store Now?

We're coming to the end of our supply of 'old' Tang. Near as I can tell, they've changed the formula of this old standby at least twice since our current stock was laid in.

What's the best bet for non-aspertame fruit drink powder for storage now that Tang has been NWOed?

I do have a container of Tang and some packages of powdered Gatoraid somewhere, but for quick pickups on really hot days or after a lot of hard heavy work my family likes the supplement Emergen-C. It comes in small Kool-Aid like packages and is pricey. I don't mind spending extra after checking out the list of ingredients. I don't encourage it as an everyday drink, but when I feel used up and worn out I'm glad it's in the pantry.

Most powdered drink mixes are junk. The only one I would consider storing is Gatorade because it has electrolytes which are useful for treating dehydration in a flu/outbreak scenario.

If kids are the problem, get them drinking water now.

My kids drink water with lunch and dinner and have since they were little. No sodas, juice boxes or powdered drink mixes unless it is a birthday party.

OK this stuff actually taste like it would save your life.

I just took out the Camel-Bak 100 oz. hydration pack. I pulled out two types of hydration/electrolyte specific powdered drink mixes. I have. "Cera Lyte 70" which is lemon flavored Rice based oral electrolyte (to help prevent dehydration from diarrhea)

This stuff is part of a line of products put out by a company called "Adventure Medical Kits" by Eric A. Weiss, MD. Emergency Physivian Stanford Medical Center, Board of Directors Wilderness Medical Society.

The 1.7 oz / 50 gram pkg. contains Sodium Chloride 2.2g, Potassium Chloride 1.3g, Trisodium Citrate 2.9g, and 40.0g Carbohydrates <--- I'm guessing from the rice; "which has been found to be be effective in reducing the volume and duration of diarrhea, promoting early recovery"...

This stuff taste like "obviously your an athlete" Why else would consume this?

I also have some "Gookinaid-Hydralyte" another brand name drink with more of a sport minded maintenance drink, than a recover from Montezuma's Revenge type of situation.

The contents of this lemon or punch flavored powdered drink mix is:

Sodium 64mg. W/ 3% daily values
Potassium 190mg w/ 3% DV
Carbohydrates 10 grams w/4% DV
Sugar is I'm guessing the same ten grams as purported to in the Carbohydrate line above.

Note: there are two disclaimer on the package that read-

1. ALLERGY NOTE: glucose derived from corn.

2. DIABETICS: Contains glucose sugar, use with the advice of your physician.

Taste test to follow later. Have not had my coffee yet.

I don't know if they've changed Tang or not but my kids like the Tangerine Strawberry flavor Tang. They've only tried the Tang that's about to expire so I can go buy more for the stash. There are other flavors than the orange.

I love Crystal Lite especially "Fruit Punch" & "Raspberry Ice". One container makes 1 quart so we usually make it by the half gallon or two containers to two quarts.

Another favorite is Wylers Fruit Punch. Both mixes have almost "0"
calories.

It's also a good idea to have a good supply of Gatorade on hand as some
have mentioned to replace electrolytes lost during extreme sweating or
severe diarrhea.

I store gatorade and kool-aid. I'm trying to stay away from drinks that contain aspartame. I also have a juicer and can extract fresh juice from fruit.

Water is great, but sometimes a little flavor helps. Like when you have a cold and need to dring liquids, but have no desire to do so. Or when the well water starts to taste more minerally than normal. :kk1:

I love the orange drink at the LDS cannery. Unfortunately, my mormon family member moved out of state, so I've lots my supplier:(

I go to the cannery so many times as a guest, that I don't even come with a member. They know me there. Just ask them. I look forward to each time. I love team work.

I don't do sugar, so if I use drink mixes they have to have an artifical sweetener in them. The ones I like are the 4C "Totally Light" series - they use sucralose (Splenda) not aspartame.
Not cheap, though - I buy them at a discount store when I can find them.

Another option is unsweetened Kool aid packages, you can add your own sugar, honey, or whatever.

I also like those little dehydrated packages of lemon, lime and orange (can't remember the brand) - no sweeteners, they have vitamin C, and add an interesting flavor to plain water.
