99.9% has nothing to do with me. I live in a very small county with 2 very small towns. I don't fly anywhere I have no ATM card, and I am armed. So I guess I am not at much of a risk.

My total was 14. Pretty good for a non-carrying person. :D I couldn't figure out how to answer the question about answering the door armed or unarmed. Does a baseball bat count?

Mostly because I don't do alot of things, do not have to travel much. I do most of my ATM banking from work.

(Negative score) A minus score indicates that the criminal would be in danger FROM YOU. The greater the negative score...the greater the danger. Don't open your door to strangers. It puts you at risk.

Thing with the door it is not my house but usually if the doorbell rings the dog alerts me and I go out on the walkway out of sight as someone else opens the door. My .45 is in my hand as well as a spare mag.

The survey is a bit off for someone in my situation but ok, whatever. Let the zombies come for a visit and we'll see because one of us is gonna die or go to the hospital and I don't care which..

17. I haven't changed a tire in years, so I have to go over that. Other than that, pretty low risk for not carrying.

I don't lock my car door when driving, but then again nobody can keep up with me anyway

2. We live in a pretty safe neighborhood. We do answer the door unarmed except for two barking and growling dogs.

Ya know, There are many companies that put these "surveys" to mine for data and create a virtual database about people and then offer it up for sale. You would be amazed on how much they know about you.

(0 to 50) This score shows a low risk of assault. You are either highly cautious or a poor target. You should not be foolishly overconfident however. Keep up the precautions and take the test again next month and don't fudge on your points.

(51 to 80) This shows that you have a moderate risk of robbery or assault. It would be a good idea to be more cautious and cut out visiting an ATM machine at night. Take a self defense or executive security course. Don't carry so many charge cards.

(More than 80) It would be a good idea to make out a will. Put your portable valuables in a safe deposit box. Think twice before you go nightclubbing or driving. You are obviously having a fun life but to make it through another year it would be advisable to take up jogging, martial arts, firearms and carry a police officer with you when you go out. Carry some cash (25 to 50 dollars) and fewer credit cards.

This test says a criminal is not in danger of me.I beg to differ.;)

I always have my ATM card and a credit card with me...and always some cash.
I'm just a poor target...I'm 6ft 4 in, about 245 lbs, and I carry...my height and build protect me..always have...and I'm armed 99.5% of the time. And it doesn't even take into account the 2 perpetually pissed off Rottweillers who allow us to live in their house.

I think this a good general assessment for suburbanites and city-dwellers, but for those of us in small towns, and rural settings, their are some gaps.

Ridiculous

CFI,

I started to take the test, but gave up quickly after reading some of the nonsensical questions.

"Do you wear natural fur in public?" HUH? How many muggers will know the difference between chinchilla and synthetic? Are we talking about a mountain man's coon or bear skin hat or a mink stole? Are we talking about the streets of Chicago or a remote trail in Montana?

"Do you carry cash and in what amounts (or words to that effect)?" In my experience, carrying cash (or plastic) has absolutely no bearing on whether you are likely to be assaulted or robbed. If the question was phrased to indicate whether you displayed considerable amounts of cash, it would have more veracity. Years ago, in Africa - a very cash-dependent continent - I had carried up to roughly US $500,000 cash equivalent for one of the security concerns I worked with on rare occasions. Grey man. No more indication that there was cash in the briefcase than a ham sandwich. Though I don't have any personal experience, it is my understanding that diamond merchants frequently carry incredible amounts on their person. Very discreet, grey man...no one gets robbed.

As to the rest, I'll just close by observing that one of my son's friends recently deferred an early morning visit to my house by stating to another friend, "I ain't going over there this early. The last time, Mr. Doc came to the door naked...with a .45 in his hand!"

Best regards
Doc

-34 probably cause I actually walk in public more than 5 times a month in public, and drive a bit every year, w/o the bumper sticker that says driver carries no cash.

Well, one thing is for sure. No one's gonna mess with the man in Elko Nevada. (Minus 71) Clint Eastwood Has Nothing on You ChristianforIsrael!

I could see him now, pulling over a Jeep full of invading Cuban paratroopers with the sheer mass of his water deliver truck, jumping out and racking his M-1 Garand declaring. "Being that this is the most powerfull .30 caliber semi-auto battle rifle that can shoot clean through your vehicle while hitting secondary targets out to 600 yards with iron sights, you gotta ask yourselves"... KA-BOOM

Sorry CFI, we had to do it. My skit was getting a little long winded for my minus 34 taste. LOL

Better than I expected. Probably because I'm a grey haired old lady who never goes anywhere except work. :)

well, i've seen some pretty good scores (i'm only 3rd lowest on the board where i found this :D), but no one here has beaten me yet? i'm truely surprised.

yeah, i know the questions are more for urbanites than us country folk, but i think the point, getting you thinking about being assaulted and taking steps to lower your risks, is a good one. if nothing else it emphasizes situational awareness.

I live in a rural area that is becoming metropolitan.

I routinely practice Officer O's awareness 101 tactics.

The large caliber Glock is a custom G30SF, .45acp, with tritium sights and a stock/competition trigger package with polished internals.

I was in the plus 50 group. Back when I drove, I used to stop at the ATM at night. And I used to pick up a hitchhiker here and there, not always, but sometimes. The test doesn't like carrying charge cards or much cash. In my little town people get rolled for cigarettes or phones or just for fun. I don't go out at night anymore. Back when I had a car, that was a good enough weapon. Oh, and being in Wisconsin, we are not legally allowed to protect ourselves outside our dwellings. But still it is better than in Illinois where they charged a man for shooting his own foot in his own home. The charge? No Firearm Owner Identification Card. Of course, the newspaper headline was he was charged for shooting his foot. Gotta love mid-size town newspapers.

Freeholder

This too shall pass.
Looks like I have the highest score so far, 24 -- we don't have a peephole on the door; I do answer the door without a weapon in my hand but I always look out a window first to see who's there; I seldom lock the doors on my vehicle (small town!) but can lock them in two seconds flat if I need to; and I sometimes walk with my daughter, who, while not a small child, is mentally handicapped. She looks like an adult, so I'm not sure she's a risk factor that way.

However, we can say, "Oh, half those questions don't apply to us because we live in the country, or a small town," but keep in mind that crime does happen in the country and small towns. Maybe not as much, and maybe most of it is between people who know each other, but there are still risks, and we do need to be aware of them. Some guy walked up to the door of a cousin's daughter a few years ago and started to assault her with a knife in his hand -- her brother happened by and the guy ran, or she would have probably been killed. This was in a very quiet rural area four hours drive from the nearest large city. They suspected the assailant was responsible for another assault about fifty or sixty miles away, also in a very rural area. And we could probably all tell stories like that....

I started to take the test but backed out. Too much information was requested and not all of it applicable. Some of the questions were interesting and gave me few ideas. Just because the area is rural or a good neighborhood is no reason to get complacent. Times are changing. Besides I'm just a helpless fat old lady. Honest.
