ADMIN Friends Messages and Private Messages

Too Tired to ReTire
Note:

It has come to the Staff's attention that the new software upgrade has a new sort of MYSPACE feature that allows you to have a friends group. It appears (and I am a bit fuzzy on this) that once you accept a member into your friends group, then any message you post to one of your FRIENDS is available for all of your other friends to view. IE: these are not PRIVATE MESSAGES.

The regular Private message system still works just like it use too, but you have to make sure you are in the Private Message part of the Messaging system. PM's are still Private between the sender and the recipient.

But the FRIENDS Messages ARE pretty much like posting to every one... so take care what you post..

Enjoy this new "feature"

Yeah, I've been trying to figure some of these "friend features" out also.

I joined up at a Volvo board and immediately got a message from someone who was also a member and lives close by; the message asked if I wanted to let this guy be my friend. :D

So? I said "yes" (having no clue as to what that means). :lkick:

Oh...I noticed also (here) that everytimes you go look at someone's profile it leaves a note for them showing every person who has looked at their profile record...it keeps a list.

So now when you just want to go check out a member to see when he/she joined or to see their interests, etc., that member will now know that you've been "snooping" around looking at them. But I guess it's no longer "snooping"; it's more like leaving a calling card that you came to visit (for whatever reason).

There's no telling what new controls the mods and admins have with this new release of the software! It's SCARY! :D So everybody be nice and watch your step from now on!!

:lkick:

I have only received "let's be friends' since this new system has been in use. NO PMs included. (hint Father Mike) I never got any PM you sent me - but your request to ba my friend made it).

I sure wish there was a way to turn off this "friends thingy" so that maybe I'd get the PMs which had to have acompanied them...

Dutch, there are no PM's that automatically come with a friends invite. The friends thing will allow two friends to IM (instant message) each other if they both have yahoo messenger, and are both logged in to yahoo messenger. I don't know if it works with other messenger systems like AIM or not.

You forgot about that special control - you know, the one that lets us see everyone sitting at their computers at home.

Awww crap! And I'm sitting here, no make-up on, a dirty house behind me (who has time for housekeeping when there are these ALERTS and BREAKING posts to read?!), and in my nightie.

Really, ya all, I DO look better, and much younger, with full warpaint and armor on. And, the maid comes tomorrow. Come back then.

It seems as if many missed HA's explaination of the different messages, so I will make this a sticky for a few days...

Unless an Admin wants to undo it. :)

that member will now know that you've been "snooping" around looking at them.

I believe it's called creeping..:apc:

I do it on occasion, only because sometimes I wonder if a person's sincere or if they are more troll like {especially when I was a newbie here}.....you can usually tell by their previous posts..... :shr:

I do it sometimes to find an old post they made. I guess I could do it by searching but just clicking on their name has worked, so that's what I've done.

Hi - I'm a member and I have never contributed to this web site - gulp

Please send me the snail mail address and I will try to make ammends. I feel guilty about this because I am an every day watcher here. I know that people are now hurting and I want to contribute to this site. I have a paypal thing set up with ebay but I would prefer sending a check to TB2k with a personal check to help with whatever we need here. God Bless - I know a money drive is not on now but send me a snail mail address- thanks - - Tucson Sal

HA, just wondered if this works with Facebook also?

I recently put up a FB page and Monkeywrench is doing one too. The people we know are on FB so we are finally getting around to it.

As you know I am combating what certain people have been projecting online. The main one has the same IP and lives in our house and has access to the computers so it's tough. It would greatly help in any way to show the real me vs their stuff.

If this only works with Myspace then we'll do that too. Just let me know.

Thanks,

HA,
Hopefully this works with Facebook as we have decided to NOT do anything on Myspace.

I just read up on Myspace and it doesn't fit us. LOL. I'd be interested in others experiences on both sites, and also having blogs, etc. Still learning about all this.

Thanks,
conundrum

Conundrum- the friends feature on TB is not affiliated with, nor will it work with Facebook or Myspace. It is a stand-alone feature of this board software. You can visit a members TB page by clicking their name, then leave a message (this part is public to TB members only) or use the Private message feature that can only be read by the recipient. You can add them as a TB friend there, also. From your own members page, you can set up a "group" for members you choose, tho I don't believe the group would be private, it would be readable by all TB members.

eXe has set us up a group page on Facebook, that is for TB members only. We can check in there if the board is down.

http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=57819679595

You'll need to message him or Diamonds (I think) to become a member there.

Now, I hope I haven't confused us further. :)
