Hi SW
Good to see a new story. This is off to a good start, hope to see more soon.
Thanks for posting. It is interesting to see a disasters viewpoint from
another country.

Yay, I got a comment! Thank you, Dreamaker!!!

I know that there isn't much to comment on yet, and that the American situation has been given the soft pedal so far. That will change, don't worry. I'm just getting started!

You're right, I did want to explore the idea of watching the disaster unfold from a distance, while knowing that eventually the repercussions will spread far enough to bring you to your knees as well. Most doomer stories I've read have the protagonist right at the epicentre of the crisis, and while that certainly makes for exciting reading, I wanted to try something different. This is just the start of their problems, though, and the action will get a lot closer to home later on.

Thanks again!

Ok SW here's your 2nd comment. Great Start, really looking forward to it from an Aussies point of view.

I always wanted to imigrate to Australia and own a farm. Well, I got to own the farm, just never got to Australia....sure wish I had.

Keep up the good work on the story, really looking forward to it.

What an excellent start. Given the dearth of original writing to sooth our doomerish demons, it is most welcome. I'll be interested to see how you handle the civil disorder after the "unwelcome visitor" arrives in light of Australia's views on an (un)armed populace.

I hope you're ahead a few chapters, because I suspect we'll be carping on you for a chapter a day. Have fun writing.

Thanks, ChemicalGal and Topusaret! I certainly am having fun writing, and I'll try and churn the chapters out pretty quickly. There would have been another installment today, but as you can see from the story thread the board isn't co-operating. I've sent out an SOS though, and chapter 3 should hopefully be up soon.

Thanks again,

SW

Excellent, excellent! I particularly like an intelligent, well-thought-out story. I'm eagerly looking forward to the problem being worked out so you can post more of this wonderful story!

Btw, it's a good thing you sent out an SOS because I wouldn't have known there were new stories here without it. It's been so quiet in this room lately that I've quit checking regularly. Now I'll be checking several times a day.

Chapter 3 is up

... and many thanks to Cardinal, Fleataxi and the mod who kindly pointed out that the chapter was probably just too long. At which point I kicked myself and asked why the h*** didn't I think of that! *headdesk*

Many thanks for the wonderful compliments, Geena and Seraphima. I just hope the story lives up to expectations - I'm getting nervous now! This chapter is still mostly in introductory mode, but the next one should start to get to the meat of the story.

Cheers, SW.

Sorry about the delay, guys. Between my other (non-doomer) fic, the writing challenge that I entered at the last minute, catching a nasty cold, and staying up way too late to watch the Indian Premier League cricket on the telly, I'm afraid I haven't been devoting as much time to this story as I intended. The next chapter is finished, but I'd like to stay at least a chapter or two ahead in case I have to go back and change something. So my apologies for keeping you waiting, and my thanks for all the extremely gratifying comments. Hopefully I'll have something for you soon.

Cheers, SW.

OK...where is the rest of the story? It's been 3 years?

By the way, your story is great--your writing keeps the reader moving along, and it's great not being distracted by grammar and spelling goofs! Much of the stuff here at TB is good--interesting--but the English teacher in me keeps wanting to edit.
