New paper finds Antarctic Peninsula has accumulated significant extra ice since 1850

A paper published today in Geophysical Research Letters finds the Antarctic Peninsula has experienced a "significant accumulation" of "up to 45 meters of extra ice thickness over past 155 years." This finding is contrary to the alarmists claims of the highly-flawed study published by RealClimate's Dr. Eric Steig, which alleged that the Antarctic Peninsula is rapidly warming. The finding is particularly surprising since the "significant accumulation" of ice has occurred since the end of the Little Ice Age in ~1850.

Increased ice loading in the Antarctic Peninsula since the 1850s and its effect on Glacial Isostatic Adjustment

http://www.agu.org/pubs/crossref/pip/2012GL052559.shtml

Key Points
- Accumulation increase results in up to 45m extra ice thickness over 155 years
- Model predicts GIA-related subsidence of up to 7mm/yr which will affect GPS
- GRACE-derived rates of ice-mass change are biased low by ignoring this signal

Antarctic Peninsula (AP) ice core records indicate significant accumulation increase since 1855, and any resultant ice mass increase has the potential to contribute substantially to present-day Glacial Isostatic Adjustment (GIA). We derive empirical orthogonal functions from climate model output to infer typical spatial patterns of accumulation over the AP and, by combining with ice core records, estimate annual accumulation for the period 1855-2010. In response to this accumulation history, high resolution ice-sheet modeling predicts ice thickness increases of up to 45m, with the greatest thickening in the northern and western AP. Whilst this thickening is predicted to affect GRACE estimates by no more than 6.2 Gt/yr, it may contribute up to -7 mm/yr to the present-day GIA uplift rate, depending on the chosen Earth model, with a strong east-west gradient across the AP. Its consideration is therefore critical to the interpretation of observed GPS velocities in the AP.

One thing to remember is that the Al Gore et al 'global warming' crowd of alarmists that have pushed carbon credit trades has been another big con job... and so is about everything else the PTB have pushed since history began... think 9-11, think 'terrorists' etc.

Antarctic Ice and Snow Set New Records
by ROBERT on SEPTEMBER 17, 2012 · 4 COMMENTS

NSIDC Deafeningly Silent

“Antarctic ice extent is the highest ever for the date, and the eighth highest daily reading ever recorded,” says this article on Steven Goddard wordpress.com. “All seven higher readings occurred during the third week of September, 2007 – the week of the previous Arctic record minimum.”

“The National Snow & Ice Data Center (NSIDC) does not mention the record Antarctic cold or ice on their web site, choosing inside to feature an article about global warming threatening penguins.”

Antarctic sea-ice extent 193,000 sq miles higher than average
by ROBERT on SEPTEMBER 18, 2012
http://iceagenow.info/2012/09/antarctic-sea-ice-extent-193000-sq-miles-higher-average/

That’s ½ million square kilometers more ice than average – Where are the breathless headlines?

193,000 square miles – That’s the size of Vermont, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Virginia and Maryland combined.

Again, I ask, Where are the breathless headlines?

Or is there an agenda here?

“What if the North Pole was gaining sea ice, and the South Pole was losing sea ice?” asks the Steven Goddard website.

“Alarmists would come up with an ad hoc theory explaining how it confirms the models, and proves global warming.”

“Junk ad hoc climate science has no rules other than confirmation bias, and keeping the funding stream alive.”

http://stevengoddard.wordpress.com/2012/09/15/suppose-the-poles-were-reversed/

======================

And the other day was that report on the manipulation of the data by our govt regarding the movement of the North magnetic pole... they changed the numbers so the 'drift' would seem much slower than it is.... more 'normal'. http://globalrumblings.blogspot.com/2012/03/2012-pole-shift-data-coverup.html

The NOAA National Geophysical Data Center has updated (revised – massaged) their magnetic north pole-shift positional data and has projected the location of the pole through 2015. The pole shift, if you will, continues to race along in the same direction since it dramatically accelerated back in the mid 1990′s. But…
NOAA made some significant and apparently linear changes to the pole location data going back to the years 2001 through 2010. The most noticeable result of the changes that they made was an overall linear slow down of the shift during the past decade, although still currently high at 30 miles per year. They have projected positional data through 2015 and have slowed the pace of movement each subsequent year from 30 miles (2012) to 24 miles (2015).
No apparent reason for the change was listed. A 10 year change nonetheless! Given the fact that they suddenly changed their previously posted data of the previous decade to indicate a slower pole-shift progression, they are now able to project a slowing trend through 2015. If it were not for changing their own data, they would not have been able to project this trend through 2015. It is beginning to look like the USGS, who when they change their earthquake magnitude numbers, they always (95% of the time) revise them downward. The revisions made are always in a ‘less alarming’ direction.
While this could be the result of a NOAA factoring error of some sort, one wonders why it wasn’t caught at any other time between 2001 and today. It took 10 years to find it? Hmmm…
Or, could this be a coverup to slow the progress of the messaging from the pole shift advocates out there?

Too many people are stuck on Al Gore. And frankly I'm beginning to believe that was the whole agenda in the first place. I just read an article that the time structure for the Arctic ice is, it will most likely be all melted by 2015. Never mentioned Al Gore. Thank God!

What I find most interesting is there is article after article about Al Gore and global warming. And yet you hardly ever see anything about the horrific heat waves we've had or the Arctic, or the weird heat events we've had. Nope its all about Al Gore and this is making me very, very suspicious.

Much is changing on this planet and that includes the weather, but I do my own research and not Al Gores, or an author of one book. But we'll know for sure soon enough.

Yeah, the patterns are already in place... as usual, it's the 'cheery-picking' of the data... just heard another example this morning on the radio... on Arctic summer ice levels being so low.... they poo-poo the opposite in Antarctic, as well as the effect of melting in Artic/Greenland on the thaline/salt water effect on Gulf Stream... thus ice age.... they only like to talk about their little pile of data and not the rest that points in the exact opposite direction... They kept talking about the Arctic lack of ice, but not a word about the need for that Russian ice breaker to get fuel to parts of Alaska last winter... nor the increase in ice over the winter... nor the underwater volcanoes in the Arctic or around the world... as all the volcanoes turn on and get warmed up for the big show... above and below sea level.

Basic cherry-picking of the data... the whole 'warming' thing is based in comparison to recent data and not even as far back as the Roman days... which were much warmer... nor the Little Ice age etc. It's a farce... basically a distraction for the sheeple, the herd that only gets their information from these mainstream media sources, their govt and their religious figures. The gullible get duped as usual, same old story... and so their lessons repeat and repeat.
