It's really, really, really quiet now. No guns firing, no copters, no flares in the night sky, no boom sounds, nothing happening tonight.

Most of the activity happens inland along the Santa Margarita river valley. Lately they were firing so much artillery that they were starting a lot of little fires in the mountains. Kept their fire fighting crews busy this past week.

Edit: Talking to a neighbor when asked what's going on with all the convoys the answer was just " the palms".
In Marines jargon that means Twentynine Palms. If this is true someone should see them along the I-15 and I-10 corridors but could be just training up there.

Sat in gridlock on the 5 outside Pendelton back on 8/10. Worst 60 mile 3hr traffic jam I've ever been in.

While creeping along the I5 we got to watch a few helicopter maneuvers and beach landings. Nothing unusual back then.

FWIW - Planes going to and from March Air Reserve Base fly over my house. They are big and gray for the most part. Last week four or five flew over one evening, headed toward the southeast - Arizona? They were about 15 to 20 minutes apart. Among them was one that was white with red trim which I later figured out must be a fire fighting plane.

I think it was the weekend before last that an article in the newspaper advised folks that they would possibly hear loud "booms" coming from Pendleton, depending on atmospheric conditions. They planned exercises involving blowing up mines. I've read such advisories before when the populace could get worked up over "unusual" noise.

Word from someone on the base is that they are "training like mad" and are "out in the desert" constantly....way more than usual. Also, deployment of 1000's is coming in December, but no certainty about WHERE, which is very odd. Training is very intense. I have been told that there is "a lot" going on, but can't really be talked about.

I am leaving next week to spend 6 days on the base. I believe I will be given information in person that is not being offered on the phone. Will find out all I can!

So far 4 C130's have flown in over us in the last couple of hours. Rumors are ramping up, so much could be woo-woo I will admit. We are in an RV park on base so can only hear and see a little. A lot more activity than when we arrived July 18th.

When staging for Iraq, load outs were conducted in 22 area around 6th St, west of the air field main entrance. You said DH was out and about, was he in 22 area or was he Mainside?

If it's just air ops from 130's, then the jumps and drops are not visible from O'neill.

I just put a question in to google. You might want to read some of what comes up. It might help those who are more intelligent than I am concerning this type of movement. Here is what I asked google.

why are 7000 troops moving out of camp pendleton?

I was in both mainside and 22 area. They appeared to be coming out of the road from the Edson
Range onto Vandergrift. I did not follow them on to mainside.

This morning there were no C130s on the tarmack that I could see, but from the Lake Oneil Camp, I was watching a single C130 make several orbits and chute drops to the area that appeared to be the gunnery range just North of the air station on Basilone Road. I could not see them land, the ridge with "terror town" obscured the landing spot.

Thanks for the heads up Border Guns. And I would take Oliver Norths advise any day over the Shinman. For all I know the Shinman could be a shill. At least North has a long record of being right like him or not. And a Goodmorning to you all.

That area to the west of Basilone as you pass Del Rio is the training area for jumps and drops, keep going and just before you drop down the hill into Pulgas , to the east is the live fire area.

The trucks coming down Stuart Mesa could have been coming from Las Flores. If they were loaded, that has the possibility of being bad, since Recon is at Las Flores, though Recon usually leaves at night, and travels light.

Camp Pendleton Mystry Solved

:siren:Okay, here is the reason that all of the Marines and equipment were moving on Camp Pendleton.

These things were hidden from the public, since they took place in the interior of the base. Ten miles inland on Vandergrift Blvd after passing through the Santa Margarita River Canyon.

Two Marine Expeditionary Units (MEU) are being deployed to Afghanistan. This is the increased (above normal) activity.

I am going to say a prayer for their safe return. I think it is sad that any of our boys have to go, when our government has no intention of allowing them to win.

Good--riddle answered.

Again I said I was going there yesterday--and I did.
Nothing out of the usual seen. Was in Fallbrook along the back perimeter, and then along the 76 to the I-5.
Nothing out of the ordanary.

I did see one of those Navy Seal delpoyment boats off the coast doing some stuff with some amphip APV.
But this is de-regur.
