Reader, I am going to assume that you are taking a big can and breaking it down into smaller packages. I have done that with dry stuff, I wouldn't with wet stuff. So if you are doing that so dry stuff will last longer I would say yes, that will work, especially if you are in a humid climate.
In the case of a foodsaver, it will suck any liquid out just as readily as it will suck air. You have to freeze it first. Even then, if there is alot of condensation, that's a problem. So I generally I freeze it, wrap it (cling wrap is fine) then into the foodsaver bag to be sealed.
