Apparently the people including CHILDREN, WERE NOT removed from their cars! It appears the citizens sat in their cars as the 130 mph speeder bore down upon their impromptu, police ordered roadblock!! NOW I have heard it all!

Police in Australia have been accused of forcing motorists to form a "suicidal" roadblock to stop a speeding car during a police pursuit.

Drivers on a highway outside Melbourne said they became "sitting ducks" as they waited for a car allegedly driving at 130 miles per hour to crash into them.

David Rendina, who was in a car with his girlfriend and two children, described being ordered to pull into a side lane to form a roadblock and then watching as the speeding driver approached and smashed into him.

Police also ordered drivers to block the two main lanes of the highway.

"I pretty much knew I was a sitting duck," he told ABC Radio. "I just remember visualising [him] speeding towards me and going, 'well, there's nothing I can do here'... He hit me, hit the car next to me, come back, hit the car in front of me and went into the back of the car in front of that before coming to a stop."

Police have launched an investigation into the incident although no one aside from the driver was injured.
"I think it was suicidal," said another motorist, Natalie Grimmer. "I said someone's going to get absolutely killed. There's just nowhere for that car to go."

The driver, Ashley Steel, 19, who was in a stolen car and holds a learner's licence, eventually collided with four cars and a concrete barrier. He was taken to hospital with minor injuries and has been charged with theft of a motor car and charges of reckless conduct endangering life.

Victoria's police defended the roadblock tactic, saying they were concerned the speeding driver would enter Melbourne and "kill someone".

"This guy was driving like a maniac to be quite frank," said Assistant Commissioner Steve Fontana

I'm all about the doom
Interesting that they complied with the order. I guess if they didn't they would have been charged with disobeying a police officer. They would just have to arrest me.

That reminds me of when, I an American female citizen then about 21 years old,
was fishing in lake Huron in Canadian waters in a small boat with
a male co-worker who was a Canadian citizen.
Suddenly the Ontario Provincial Police approached our boat and ordered us
to go help put out a forest fire on a nearby island.
I asked my friend "Do we have to go?" and he said yes we do, it is the law.

I was not dressed to put out a forest fire and was badly burned on my foot
when the forest floor gave way and I stepped into a hole of burning ash.
The hot ash filled my white gym shoe and caused a huge burn in the arch of my foot.
I had a red line going up my leg and had to go to emergency upon arriving back in the USA.

I saw no firefighters or police when we were fighting the fire
so there was no one to report to, get directions or first aid from.
I ran down to the lake and soaked my foot.

Happens all the time in Australia-they likely weren't ordered to do it just told where the action is so they could park their car in the proper places.

Haven't any of you seen "Mad Max"?

I would just like to ask: WHO IS GOING TO PAY FOR ALL THE WRECKED CITIZEN'S CARS?

I am pretty sure their insurance companies WON'T PAY for such a claim.

Who would pay for those citizen's potential hospitalization/injuries??

Betcha it comes down to "tough nuggies" YOU PAY for the consequences of what the authorities order you to do.
