It's time to once again gauge the anxiety members are feeling regarding the current world situation and how they view the relative near-term future.

New this poll is a companion thread titled "Significan Events List":

that is designed to more easily correlate world events with the results of each poll.

With a nod to JC Refuge, who developed and created this identical poll the first seventeen times, and to CfI for invaluable assistance, here we go again. The poll will remain up for five days. I'd have felt more comfortable responding if there were some way to indicate that, "Yeah, I'm pretty darn concerned, alright, but I just don't have enough info to make what I'd feel is a good decision."

On the other hand, tb2k is one of my two main sources of info; there's nothing helpful in the MSM, so I'm depending on those members who are more knowledgeable than I about things that are happening out there to help me make the most of what info is available.

That said, I'm continuing slowly with my preps. Went to a gun show today and bought 1000 rounds of 9mm. (DD: it's 124gr TMJ reloads, 1040fps.) Had to put it on the plastic, but it's sure nice to know that I have it, just in case. May be difficult to get ammo, down the road...I've already broached the idea of "mutual backup" with two of my neighbors.

(Sorry, Top, didn't mean to hijack the thread.)

No hijacking taken. Comments are encouraged, particularly why you might have voted as you did. It is pretty illuminating to read some of the threads for the higher average polls. That's why the links are included. Kind of like a short-range time machine...lol

Went from ‘glued to the screen’ to ‘a bit concerned.’

We mostly fear the unknown. Now we know the shock wave of the collapse is on its way, but only affects the non-government producers. Fuel is currently under control although retail price is a little up. Terrorism seems to be in the “calm before the storm” but for Iran, which it is reasonable to expect to be preemptively attacked soon. Obama looks to win, however, we will not see the consequences of that until spring. So let’s all be jolly and watch football and the Iranian bombing until the tulips blossom. What do I know? :shr:

Ive been "glued to the screen" before when we thought terrorist attacks were imminent- but didnt feel I was at personal risk, as I was in low risk areas. This is really different. This time, I see the entire world is at risk, with a pretty significant potential of a worldwide depression. Not just something thats "no fun", but something where large number of people could die because of starvation or societal breakdown in some areas. Yea, I'm real concerned. I'm hoping and praying that it doesnt happen and I'm just overreacting. A nice little recession looks real good right now, and losing most of my little 401k like we just did just doesnt seem like the end of the world-not when it could get so much worse. This could get really ugly, between the possibility of the country going overtly socialist and totally broke, and possibly even getting involved in anothr shooting war. Way too many nasty things on the horizon right now.

I voted a bit concerned.

I am not going to live my life constantly worrying about what might happen. I'll do what I can, and leave the rest up to fate. I will deal with whatever comes my way, well I will have to, whether I like it or not.

I'll do the fun stuff, like gardening, preserving food, and so on; when I can. I can't always, other things need to be done. I'll go out with friends when they call, and so on. Life to me, is about balance. Some thinking about the unthinkable, and some fun stuff too.

I voted "watchful and ready". While I'm not what you would say 'expecting' terrorist activity, I will not be at all suprized because of the track record of attacks around election times.
With the economy, I just don't know and that uncertainty lends to the 'watchful' attitude.

Voted "Watchful, ready and checking the preps, just in case".

Further, we're adding to the preps almost daily. A couple cans of this, another bag of that, etc. There seems to always be something extra I hadn't thought about, or could use, or need.

To use a phrase, "something wicked this way comes...." so it behooves us to be and stay prepared. JMHO.

I moved back to watchful from glued last July and the survey before.

During the summer I was very concerned about food and did a prep run for rice and grains. Yesterday I found a few extra $ and bought the Grandchildren a few Christmas stocking stuffer gifts, and a few small prep items for us - a new 3 LED hand crank flashlight $6 from Big Lots ;)

The world-wide significance of this economic downturn is what has me really edgy. This could get huge fast. One nation going down could start the rest of the dominoes fallings. I'm praying that it doesn't happen, but realisticly I don't see how we can avoid it.

I have a hard time voting in these. I am always watchful, ready, and checking my preps, but I am only a bit concerned, which is almost always the case.

I voted "watchful, ready, and checking the preps". Lower on the anxiety scale than last time. But the real reason I have less anxiety is because I feel like I'm more prepared now than last time - both psychologically and physically. Not necessarily because there is less to be worried about.

I'll have to second that for our house too. Since the harvest is in and put up and winter stocks done, we are at our highest point of preps during the year. So it isn't that the world has gotten any safer, we are just better prepped for what ever comes our way.

I voted "glued to the screen" as well, but not too much as I leave Sat on a cruise and will have (voluntarily) no computer access for a whole week. Time to recharge and spend time with my better half. Just hold things together until we get back. We are about as prepped as we can get at home.

I'm a bit concerned .... I watch the news with more interest. It would take an awful lot for me to get all emotional about it though.

Am doing the same thing - and picking up extra items every time we shop. That way no one sees us prepping as well!!

Great Great Grandma!
I feel pretty well prepped for now, of course I can always think of more I want, but don't necessarily need. I'm waiting for DH to make another trip home so he can take me on a run to Sam's club. I want to pick up about 200 lbs of beans. I'm starting to run short on them and that's one thing I don't want to run short on.

I also want to pick up a band saw or something along those lines. It would sure help with cutting up meat. I currently have 1/2 a deer, 1/2 a hog, and 1 1/2 goats in the freezer, they all need to be cut up and canned. I will never again allow a big chunk of meat to go in the freezer. From this day on, it WILL be cut up before it turns into a huge rock.

I'm not near as worried as I was during the last poll. I don't have stocks that are losing value, I don't need any loans, I have my money in silver instead of in a bank. I feel about as safe as I can be.

For the first time, I'm voting "Glued to the screen." Not because I literally am glued. Fact is, I'm at the point where I don't particularly see much reason to waste time reading news stories all day long since it seems increasingly obvious what the future is ... and it ain't pretty.

What has me more concerned than the failing economy, dwindling energy, and international tensions is the apparent inevitability of the election of a Manchurian candidate as US President AND a supermajority of Senate and House liberals to push through any and all legislation they so desire.

Something evil this way comes.

I chose glued to the screen, though overall I am feeling less anxious than during the last poll.

My spirit is quiet & has been for a couple weeks. I understand that this is the calm before the storm & things are going to get incredibly ugly this winter.

I voted glued to the screen, expecting the worst any day now.

Folks, I dont know why but I have a very sense of urgency right now and have for about 2 weeks. I get this sense every now and then. But whats worse is this nagging sense of impending doom I have along with it...

voted glued to the screen for only the second time, as i did last poll.

only as a way of measuring my concern. actually, i'm out doing the things that need doing on the homestead.

but i do have a sense that we are near the breaking point, perhaps within just a few weeks. even if Obamanation declares victory, there will be riots anyways when they realize the cupboard is bare.

and - more likely - the financial crisis has only started to gain traction. wait till the unemployment phenomenon begins to claim more victims.

wait till the towns, cities, counties and states start to cry for help from Uncle Sam as they go bankrupt or can't find investors to buy their bonds.

A last bump before the poll ends tonight, and so...your last chance to let us know where your anxiety level is.

I'll post the final results after the poll closes.

The final result of the 22nd Prepper Anxiety Poll after 265 votes is:

2.17

That is quite an increase from the last poll (2.02), and the second highest result ever recorded in the previous twenty-one polls. Not surprising, imho, given the stress all are under due to the financial and political situation.

Thanks to all who viewed, voted, and expecially to those who took the time to comment on their reasons for why they voted the way they did. The 23rd Prepper Anxiety poll will appear at sometime in the future at a date and time selected completely at random.

As I noted when I first posted this poll, there is a companion thread titled,
Signficant Events List (Companion to Prepper Anxiety Poll #22), which can be found here:
