    New Members Check-In Thread...

As part of our enhanced board security procedures, we are now requiring all new members to check in and let us know you are here by posting to this or any other thread within 1 week of registration.

Every Friday evening, we will purge all members who have been registered for more than 1 week but have never posted.

Since we no longer allow non-posting members, this "check-in" post may serve as your one and only post if you simply want to be a registered "lurker".

But don't be just a lurker!

    Everyone has something to contribute!

BEFORE you post your first post, please read the Rules for Posting that are at the top of just about every page on this board.

By posting your first post in here or on any other thread, you signify that you HAVE read the Rules for Posting.

    Thanks, and welcome to Timebomb2000!

    Edit to add:

I just want to caution everyone that we have a lot of new members, many of which are long-time lurkers who have been around as long or longer than many of us. They are just as much a part of this board and their posts, now that they have "de-cloaked" so to speak, are just as valuable as any of us oldtimers' posts.

    That being said...

The flip side of that coin is that the only way we "know" people is by their posting history...

Regardless of how long you have been lurking and how much you feel like you know all of us and wish to now contribute (and we DO welcome such contributions), please keep in mind that we don't "know" you...yet.

And please bear with us until we DO get to know you a little better.

As many of you know, we have recently come through a difficult time on the board. We HAVE had some "hit-and-run" troublemakers and trolls who just love to toss out some heated or controversial tidbit and watch the fur fly.

Keep in mind that WE (the mods and admins and the other members) cannot easily tell the difference between a recently de-cloaked, long-time, sincere lurker turned poster and a "hit and run" troll looking to stir up trouble.

Please bear that in mind if some of us appear rather sensitive to certain posts in this time of tremendous sensitivity and uncertainty and potential dis-information.

I hope you new members with relatively few posts under your belt can understand that the rest of us cannot readily assume ANYTHING about any poster with relatively few posts.

Like it or not, in this medium, you earn your stripes via your please DO post and let us get to know you through your contributions but PLEASE do not take offense if we question, ask for further clarification, evidence, links, etc.

I hope this came out like I intended it...

"People are best convinced by reasons they discover on their own."

"The next 20 years are going to be completely unlike the last 20 years." - Chris Martenson (The New 2014 Crash Course)

Hello, I am another long time lurker, happy to be finally joining.

Hi, another (now former) long time lurker. Thank you for allowing me to join you. I remember the computer I was using when I first came to TB2K had 32 megabyes of memory and a huge 4 gigabyte disk. I was so proud of that "big iron." Anyway, now I have gone legit. I'm stuck here at the moment between the jet stream and gulf of Mexico.

Howdy, I have been a lurker for about 10 plus years while Gisgaia, my sister, has been an active member throughout this time. I really appreciate all the work the members put into their post to keep everyone informed of what is really going on in the world today. I am looking forward to contribute from my home in North Arkansas.

    Thanks to Dennis

For getting me signed up. Have been around prepping, etc. for some time and really enjoy the board. Been a lurker for a while and figured it was about time to get signed up. The family and I have just recently bought some ground in southwest Mo. and will be moving as soon as our house in central Mo. sells. I am a paramedic and she has been driving a school bus and doing the stay at home mom thing for a while. She also has an ag. degree that we hope to put to some use on the farm when we get there. Glad to be on board.

    Hello to you all,

Oh my, I just don't think of myself as a "lurker."

I've visited this site for a very long time and read "The Flying Dutchman" without fail.

How nice to upgrade to being a "Member," although it may take me time to figure out how all this works:

My little Yorkie is a joy in my life so I clicked on: rdog: Only wanted one running dog, but ended up with 2! Oh well.

Here in NE PA the "Greatest Depression" started some time ago.

Thanks to Dennis, I am now a new member. I have been lurking since Y2K and just recently retired from my job, so now I have time to visit. With the times we live in it makes good sense to know your neighbor

Hello everyone. I had been 'lurking' for a while, but since I am pretty active in a few other message board sites, either I never posted here before, or if I did, it was so long ago that I forgot about it, (got CRS bad ) so I sent in asking to register, and here I am.

What prompted me to join in and start posting? Well, when I read the thread requesting people to sound off if they were within the path of Katrina, and to send them prayers, I realized that this was an online community I wanted to be a part of.

My prayers continue to go out to everyone affected by Katrina, and I have lit a vigil prayer candle for all in that area.

    Thanks for the avatar!

given my disability, ( of the symptoms being frequent agoraphobia, so given that I don't go outside, I 'socialize' and communicate via computer a lot.) I spend a lot of time online. I hope I won't grate on ya'll's nerves to much, but plan on stickin around and more than likely becoming like the main character type like in the move 'what about Bob?'

Anyway, ya'll seem like nice folks..pleesedtameetcha.

And I know it was prolly too much personal info, but I just figure this is me, this is who I am, I am just the kind of person to 'let it all hang out' and am pretty upfront in some respects..

I did have to pay the price for it..because there are other times where I am pretty damn's a dichotomy..but it's also a fact, and also who I am. So this is me, and know ya know, and yeah, I'm a bit nervous, so I'll 'shut up' now.

New member checking in...thanks for hooking me up, Dennis!

My name is sherbar92 and I am apparently a "doomer." They say admitting you have an addiction is the first step to recovery...

CFI and bygrace told me about this place a while ago. I've lurked for a long time but finally realized that a newbie prepper should no longer attempt to go it alone. I hope I can also contribute to the board in some way. I have a background working with radioactive drugs, so I know my rads from my rems, a bit about radioactive contamination, and a good deal about medicine. I also have a glowing personality, a hot sense of humor, and a huge penchant for making bad puns.

I see a lot of familiar faces here from various Christian boards on the Net. I post as smilinnow on several of those, but was concerned that joining TB2K as "smilinnow" two days after the wrath of Katrina might imply I'm "smilin now" about that, which I am most definitely NOT. So, sherbar92 it is!!

Looking forward to learning much, getting to know many, and maybe have a little fun too.

Howdy everyone! I've been lurking here for the last couple of weeks or so and have seen lots of accurate and provocative info here. I decided to take the plunge and join the board after the tragic events of the past few days on the Gulf coast. I've gone to NO quite a bit over the last couple of years for work and I'm really concerned about a lot of the people I've worked with. I think most of them got out of town before Katrina hit but I think most all of them have lost everything. The people in that region really need our prayers and support now!

Blessings to all and I will post when I can!
