CNN Guest: American Christians ‘Lost the Gospel of Jesus,’ Which Led to Trump

    1 min read

On Sunday’s broadcast of CNN’s “Reliable Sources,” Lutheran pastor Angela Denker accused American Christians of having “lost the Gospel of Jesus.”

She said they were instead embracing “wealth and power,” which led to the election of President Donald Trump.

When asked about Christian support for Trump means, Denker said, “The American church has lost the Gospel of Jesus and has become caught up in a gospel distortion, over Christian Nationalism which says that our God is no longer the God of the Bible but a God who makes America strongest.”

She continued, “I found this in churches from Appalachia to Orange County that pastors, in particular, have failed to teach the actual teachings of Jesus, which were not about power or wealth or money, but about loving one another, about giving your money to the poor. and instead, American churches have become caught up in wealth and power, and it has led American Christians to be so entirely focused on our own power and our own money, and of course, has led to a president who exemplifies many of those things.”

She added, “I think the national news media needs to more deeply understand the actual story of Jesus and who Jesus really is. Jesus was somebody who was not at all like an earthly king, and God sent Jesus to remind the people of Israel that an earthly king was not what God intended. Americans are getting caught up in the same kind of traps that the Hebrew people of the Old Testament were, which is waiting for an earthly king to bring us power. That is not the story of Christianity. I think a lot of journalists are missing that part.”

LOL The very basic premise of the Lutheran preacher as to the Gospel is wrong, so the rest is just blah, blah.

Of course in some circles, a Marxist viewpoint is considered "Christian."

Of course Marxism will never be practiced as laid out by Marx: the state will NEVER "wither away" leaving humanity with empathy and generosity for their fellows.

And dare I say the "Kingdom of God (Maker)" will never be embraced entirely in this side of the veil either, as much as Maker's Son may have wished for it, or encouraged followers to this.

And this may be Maker's intent. Were this world perfect, Maker would have no yardstick to measure the human spirit against, and in a race to eternal life of the human spirit, there are bound to be winners and losers.

We all will not be spiritual Secretariats - at least not without Maker's grace.

Talk about confused people. Jesus never said, "Give more of your income to Ceasar so that he may give to his bureaucrats that may give some to the poor.".
The government is not charged with giving to the poor, helping the needy, giving services to your community. You Are.

We have lost the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and sound doctrine, in this country. Unfortunately, this has led to things like unrestricted abortion; homosexual activism; giving abundantly to people who won't work; widespread divorce and breakdown of the family; people abandoning the churches and scorning God and the Bible....

Pretty hard to find a Christian church anymore that teaches anything but SJW "doctrine".

I like the local Lutheran Missouri Synod pastor and church (when I go - which isn't often anymore) because he tells ya where the bear sat. If politics leak into anything at all, they are refreshingly traditional and conservative. And NO women preachers allowed in that Synod. For some reason I can't ABIDE women preachers.

There are some. I've managed to always find one, no matter where we lived, but often they are small. Usually Baptist of one flavor or another, usually Independent or Southern Baptist (there are still some good of the latter, depending on the pastor).

ETA: When I'm looking for a new church after a move, I look specifically for conservative Bible-believing churches where the pastor teaches through the Bible one book at a time, one verse at a time. It's not an absolute guarantee, but the congregation in such churches generally knows their Scriptures and will hold the pastor accountable when he gets off track.

    Flashbacks:
Obama Inauguration to be shown in movie theaters
    Published: Jan. 12, 2009 at 10:01 PM

NEW YORK, Jan. 12 (UPI) -- President-elect Barack Obama's inauguration will be screened live in 27 U.S. theaters, MSNBC said Monday.

The cable channel said it had reached a deal with Screenvision to put its coverage of the inauguration on 27 theaters in 21 markets, The Hollywood Reporter said. Admission will be free and tickets are being distributed at MSNBC.com.

The programming will be presented from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. EST.
The arrangement gives MSNBC an opportunity to reach an audience in movie theaters, and it gives theater operators a chance to bring people into theaters -- and perhaps sell some popcorn and beverages -- at a time of day when movie attendance typically doesn't amount to much, the report said.

The signal will not be high-definition, but the cable channel and Screenvision say the picture will be high-quality. MSNBC President Phil Griffin said, "It'll look great."

Griffin told the Reporter the exhibiting its inauguration coverage in movie theaters is intended to "reach people we've never reached before."
"We're going to do numerous things like that to get our name out there," he said. "Ubiquity is the name of the game in 2009."

Annointing of Obama Inaugural Walkway "WITH OIL"

Thousands Join in Virtual Prayer and Annointing of Obama Inaugural Walkway

Thousands of people from across the United States and even around the world have used the Internet to join in the prayers and anointing service held on January 7, by Reverends Rob Schenck and Patrick J. Mahoney at the site of the impending Inauguration of Barack Obama as the 44th president of the United States.

The service, conducted by the two ministers along with Congressman Paul Broun of Georgia, was held at the interior threshold of the door Obama will pass through on his way out of the Capitol and onto the Inaugural stage where he will swear the Oath of Office on January 20. The group read scripture, offered prayers and used oil to anoint the doorposts of the arched walkway.

“This site will be a literal rite of passage for the new president,” said Rob Schenck, president of Faith and Action, a Christian mission to elected and appointed officials on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC.

“The Bible commands us to pray for kings and all who are in authority. It should be our natural inclination to do so, and it can only do the new president and the country good to pray for him. I don’t care what your political sensibilities are, we all need prayer and we all need to pray.”

Schenck and Mahoney had initially been told by US Capitol police they could not conduct the service in the highly secure zone just a few feet from the balcony where the Chief Justice will administer the oath to Mr. Obama. When Congressman Broun signed onto the program, though, the police relented and allowed the group complete access.

“Congressman Broun is the boldest, most uncompromising Christian witness I’ve known in the Congress,” said Schenck. “He’s a humble and very courageous man.”

    Obama's entrance on a donkey

In Des Moines, Iowa, an inaugural parade for Obama included a simulation of the triumphant entry of Christ in which a facsimile of Obama rode upon a donkey. As the reproduction made it’s way down the streets, palm branches were handed out to onlookers so that they could wave them like Christ’s adorers did in the 21st chapter of Matthew.

Clark's Obama sculpture, riding a donkey at the Iowa Capitol

DES MOINES, Iowa – Amid the pomp, circumstance and celebration of welcoming a new president, an artist in Iowa created an inaugural parade sure to draw attention, even hundreds of miles from Washington, D.C.: Barack Obama, riding on a donkey, complete with waving palm fronds and "Secret Service" escort.

As WND reported, Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan declared in October that when Obama talks, "the Messiah is absolutely speaking." But artist Matthew J. Clark's parade – marching Obama through the streets of Des Moines in similar fashion to Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem – takes the messianic imagery even farther.

The Bible describes Jesus' procession into Jerusalem in the 21st chapter of Matthew as the fulfillment of the prophet Zechariah's words, "Behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ***," or as the New International Version paraphrases, "gentle, and riding on a donkey." As the celebrated Messiah entered the city, the Bible also tells of adorers spreading their cloaks at Jesus' feet and waving palm fronds.

Charlotte Eby, columnist for Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier, witnessed a strange sight earlier this week, as a sculpture of Obama marched down Des Moines' Locust Street in similar fashion.

"Progressing slowly down Locust and holding up traffic was a rubbery Barack Obama sculpture saddled on the back of a donkey," Eby writes. "A pair of black SUVs led the procession and two more trailed behind, Secret Service-style. A couple of the SUVs were decked out with tiny American flags."

Eby continues, "A few men led the Donkey down the street and a woman made her way along the sidewalk, keeping up with the procession and handing out palm branches to the few perplexed onlookers who had gathered on the sidewalks to see what the fuss was about."

Head of Muslim group with admitted Hamas ties to offer prayer at Obama inauguration

Federal prosecutors last summer rejected claims that ISNA was unfairly named an unindicted co-conspirators in the Holy Land Foundation Hamas terror funding case.

ISNA has admitted ties to the Muslim Brotherhood and Hamas. The Muslim Brotherhood is waging, in its own words, "a kind of grand Jihad in eliminating and destroying the Western civilization from within and ‘sabotaging’ its miserable house by their hands and the hands of the believers so that it is eliminated and Allah’s religion is made victorious over all other religions.”

And the head of ISNA is going to offer a prayer at Obama's inauguration.
"Muslim woman, rabbis to pray at inaugural service," by Rachel Zoll for AP, January 14 (thanks to all who sent this in):...A prayer will be offered at the National Cathedral by Ingrid Mattson, the first woman president of the Islamic Society of North America, according to an official who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to release the information. The Islamic Society, based in Indiana, is the nation's largest Muslim group....

Now it's biblical: 'Obama 3:16' at DNC

'God sent his Son,' and we have Hawaii birth certificate to prove it!

    Published: September 3, 2012

An observant reporter at the Democratic National Convention came across a shocking bit of “kitsch” for sale that seems to suggest God so loved the world, He sent us … Barack Obama.

“The Cult of Obama staggers on,” writes David Weigel of Slate.com. “The streets near the convention zone are dotted with vendors selling for-us-by-us Obama merch [sic].”

Among the available merchandise, Weigel came across a photo calendar attributed to James Hickman and offered by a man who reportedly claimed to be Hickman’s nephew.

Most of the calendar’s months are filled with complimentary photos of Obama and factoids about the history of black Americans, but for the August entry (the month of Obama’s birth), the photo features the short-form birth certificate originally purported to be Obama’s and the words, “Heaven Sent: For God so loved the world, that he have his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life – John 3:16.”

While the biblical verse refers to Jesus Christ as the sent Son of God, the calendar page, with Obama’s purported birth certificate and a separate photo of sunlight streaming down on the sitting president’s profile, seems to suggest the “heaven sent” is not Jesus, but Obama.

Nothing visible on the calendar suggests it is connected in any way to the Obama re-election campaign, but a video posted by Hickman shows him distributing promotional materials for the calendar earlier this year in Atlanta and explaining his adoration for Obama.

“We’ve got to get out and vote for the president,” Hickman states. “We just can’t forget about the last four years and what he did for us. Hey! That’s a hard-working man. I give up love and everything to Obama.”

Hickman’s speech is immediately followed by Obama supporting signs reading “I love you President Obama! God bless you!” and “God has spoken … another 4 yrs!”

Obama is Americas No. 1 hero, not Jesus

    February 20th, 2009 - 12:25 pm ICT by ANI

Chicago, February 20 (ANI): US President Barack Obama has beaten Jesus Christ to be Americans number one hero, according to a new Harris poll.

The top 10 list based on the poll showed Obama at number one position, Christ at number two, and Martin Luther King at number three.

Wrapping up the top five Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush.

They were followed by Abraham Lincoln, John McCain, John F. Kennedy, Chesley Sullenberger, and Mother Teresa in the same order.

The online survey involved 2,634 US adults, reports the Chicago Sun-Times.

The news report said that those surveyed were asked whom they admired enough to call their heroes, but were not shown any list of people to choose from.

In a Harris Poll conducted in 2001, Jesus Christ was the hero mentioned most often, followed by Martin Luther King, Colin Powell, John F. Kennedy and Mother Teresa.

Bush was rated 19th at the time, but the latest list shows him to be on number five.

John McCain, who was not in the top 20 in 2001, is presently number seven.

Mother Teresa, who was number 5 in 2001, is now number 10.

Newsweeks Evan Thomas: Obama Is Sort of god

Newsweek editor Evan Thomas said President Obama is "sort of God" in a way that's "standing above the country." Transcript below.

CHRIS MATTHEWS (HOST):Evan Thomas is editor at large for Newsweek magazine. Evan, you remember 1984. It wasn't 100 years ago. Reagan and World War II and the sense of us as the good guys in the world, how are we doing?

EVAN THOMAS: Well, we were the good guys in 1984, it felt that way. It hasn't felt that way in recent years. So Obama's had, really, a different task We're seen too often as the bad guys. And he, he has a very different job from ... Reagan was all about America, and you talked about it. Obama is - we are above that now. We're not just parochial, we're not just chauvinistic, we're not just provincial. We stand for something, I mean in a way Obama's standing above the country, above above the world, he's sort of God.

Many Christian denominations have totally sold out to globo-homo.

Accepting gays, adulterers, race mixers, and placing women in places of authority in their churches.

And they wonder why their churches are empty and younger people are rejecting their fag-ified version, including the 'American Standard Bible' which is a kinder, gentler translation of the KJV. Changing important words such as "sin" in the KJV is "stumble" in the ASV. That's quite a bit different meaning with the context of millstones around necks of people who harm children.

Around here the churches are filled with elderly mostly and not even close to capacity on Sundays.

The Southern Baptists rejected all nationalism.

It's as if our ancestral faith has been co-opted by a group of people who aren't Christian. And they have subverted it to the point where our great grandparents would consider most of today's practicing 'Christians' to be heretics or outright lunatics.

I'm with the old interpretation. I don't go to church because there aren't any conservative churches left here. The Catholic church here has to give masses in Spanish and is the only church with lots of kids. And they're not White.

There will be a real revival. But not until the foreigners are no longer in control of our media, banking, schools, and government.

Jesus had a particular disdain for this tribe, as did Martin Luther and many other prominent Christian scholars throughout history. Yet we ignore their wisdom and experience with these people. People who reject our savior and believe themselves to be chosen and preach that we, who are not them, were created by their god Moloch, to serve them.

And they vote democrat, 76%, in every election.

If I was ever to go back to church it would have to be Eastern Orthodox, the only remaining un-cucked denomination.

    A couple of comments:

First to Dennis' comment in post #2: While your comment is certainly the norm, in most cases, it doesn't appear to be the case in this case. Married to a man, has 2 children. Figure she was on CNN to promote her new book (she was a writer for Sports Illustrator, before becoming a pastor) "Red State Christians". Being promoted on CNN and praised by the left means the book is about what scum bags conservatives are, so she is very liberal, and pastors in that wing of the Lutheran Denom. Probably has gays going to her church, to Dennis' point, and thinks it's all hookey doorey.

While in agreement with Foothiller in the main, it is my understanding the 1902 edition of the ASV, is a remake of the RSV, not KJV. And the ASV must not have been done correctly or to the full extent, or something, because there is another out called the New American Standard Version. The NASV was completed in 1971, and was all the rage, as the NIV is now, when I started doing Bible Studies. I didn't know the background of the NASV at the time, just thought it was cool, and being a Jesus Freak you always wanted to be cool. Use the KJV now. O and BTW the same company that publishes the NIV also publishes the New Revised Standard Version. It should also be noted that the publisher of the NIV, and the NRSV is Zondervan, owned by HarperCollins. HarperCollins also publishes The Satanic Bible by Avon publishing, written by Anton LaVey.

So a case can be made, but not here, that the NIV and the NRSV both copywrited, I might add so no one can use their stuff, compared to the KJV which never was, was done for profits/money, not accuracy.

Foothiller mentioned the Southern Baptist Convention, it should be noted that Dr. Moore, VP over the ethics committee is a well known gay supporter, and heads up the liberal wing of the SBC.

With your contentions over the viewpoint on KJV it is odd to me that you feel it alright to go to the RCC, and even Eastern Orthodox since they don't, and both use the Apocrypha as their Bible. If religious ceremony saved an individual, the Jews would be at the head of the line. Note Romans 1-3.

Agree! It is only God's grace that gave us Donald Trump. I pray that He gives us four more years of grace. When I look at the democrats I shudder thinking how quickly they will destroy this country.

I did not see Trump mentioned in the Bible.
