Rescued a horse from un-named dangers. Ok, good. What does Hidalgo mean? Is this from the movie?
Better to be a warrior in a garden than a gardener in a war.

I was wondering that myself! It's not a breed...

As far as "unknown dangers", at 28, he was almost certainly destined for the kill pen, even with today's crazy-high horse prices. I'm always torn on the subject of horse slaughter... I personally would never do that to a horse who served me well for years... it's not a philosophical objection to eating horsemeat, either. I just know how intelligent they are, and I couldn't put one through the terror of the auction, trucking (in usually horribly crowded conditions) and then the slaughterhouse.

But I also don't feel like I can tell my neighbors that they can't get a few hundred bucks for a horse that is no longer physically able to do the job, especially with the price of horses getting so nuts these days. I kniw I'm blessed that I've always been able to either find a good home for a horse that just didn't suit me (like my lovely chocolate Haflinger who was a great tide... but her gaits just didn't work with my bad spine.) or keep them until they died of natural causes.

But the horse in the OP looks like a sweet old gentleman and I'm glad they made it possible for him to live out his life in peace.

I took it to mean Arabian, but of unspecified breeding. Much like the movie star.
