US official tells @NBCNews no US troops have left Syria. They are not packing. No orders to pack. So, Trump’s apparent green light to Turkey for a military operation against the Kurds has trigged confusion and panic, but not real change, for now.

They’re moving south, Turkey is taking areas along the northern border first, that is where US troops are withdrawing from, likely heading down to the Omar oil field and Raqqa.

Turkey is bad. A treaty means nothing if both parties don't abide by it and a quick glance at the recap I posted ( posts 66-68 ) shows Erdogan has not honored it in any way...

And hell yeah if we put a hundred troops that can call in dozens of airstrikes and hundreds of cruise missiles at a moments notice we could damn sure control our border.
Stop trying to twist and distort the facts of what those spec ops troops are doing there.
We have always put token forces everywhere and an attack on those forces was understood by our enemies to mean that their own complete destruction would follow. It worked in Europe during the cold war. It works everyday when a single US Navy ship exercises freedom of navigation under international law near those artificial islands in the eastern pacific. It works when we send 1 or 2 ships into the Black Sea, and it was obviously working in Syria, although in that case those 50 "troops" controlled massive amounts of firepower.

Finally if those troops were not preventing Turkey from coming in and committing a massacre why in the hell did we have to move them?
They are not being sent home. Just moving a little bit to clear the way for Erdogan to come in and kill a bunch of Kurds who actually make up over 20% of the population of Turkey.
You know Erdogan, the one who you say is our ally.

Finally why did our President who in his tweeted self proclaimed "GREAT AND UNMATCHED WISDOM" send 80 something cruise missiles into Syria just a little while ago because his daughter didn't like a dozen civilian casualties? Why is he now prepared to step back and remove our protection from the thousands who up to now have been our allies, and allow them to be massacred. Or is Ivanka no longer whispering in his ear about "the children"?
Doesn't inconsistency in morality and principles bother you?

Yeah we need to be out of Syria. We should have never went in. But once we were in and made alliances with some and started killing others, we assumed ownership and responsibility for the consequences of our actions,
Washing one's hands of the whole situation only happens in the Bible and people despise the man who did that even 2000 years later.

"According to this view, democracy is a product of westernculture and it cannot be applied to the Middle East which has a different cultural, religious, sociological and historical background. --Recp Tayyip Erdogan

And THAT people is it in a nutshell. The west keeps applying their cultural, religious, sociological and historical background to the Middle East and time and time again, it gets spanked. The definition of insanity is what??? Once you change your prospective, you move towards understanding of the situation. It's NO WIN. All these different factions of Islam will never be at peace because they truly believe that they are the one true members (followers) of Islam and there will only be peace when all the rest of Islam sees things as they do...Caliphate.

Whether or not the Kurds are our allies remains to be seen. They are first and foremost Muslims...followers of Muhammad. The same goes for Turkey. ALL treaties are secondary or tertiary in comparison to that. Quit thinking as a Westerner. When push comes to shove, all non-believers will be pushed and shoved off that cliff in favor or their beliefs. Kurds fought with the U.S. because it was in their best interest to do so. And how many years do we support the Kurds with boots on the ground? Even though they are not in a direct combat mode, it's still a dangerous position to be in. The Kurds will use the U.S. as long as we allow it. When you have to buy your friends, THEY ARE NOT FRIENDS and you should not trust them.

As for Trump's statement on twitter of [B]"great and unmatched wisdom"[B] I took it as trolling Syria. When you communicate with people, you have to use a language that they understand. This is what Erdogan understands. Quit thinking as a Westerner. And if you get a few splody heads among the left and the Never-Trumpers with it, all the better. And yes, Trump has damaged the economies of those that were taking advantage of the U.S. for decades. Retaliation does not always have to involve bullets and bombs.

Turkey will invade Syria, wipe out the Kurds, keep moving EAST into Iraq, wipe out the Kurds and Shia militias there, ie Iran, and keep moving SOUTH, wipe out Assad Junior, pour over the Golan Heights into Israel, and then keep moving into Lebanon, Jordan, southern Israel, Saudi Arabia. IT IS GAME ON TRUMP HAS MADE A POLITICAL AND MILITARY BLUNDER OF UNPRECEDENTED SCOPE.

I was in the US Army back on Yom Kippur of 1973, so we were all waiting around Advanced Individual Training and wondering if we were going to be stuffed into a C-130 and then airlifted to Haifa and go up against the Russian Paratroopers Nixon was told would jump into Haifa and Jerusalem if Moshe Dyan didn't back off the Egyptian Army trapped south of Israel's border.

It is Yom Kippur today and it is likely REGIONAL WAR NOW. Any body here think the BAT POOP CRAZY ERDOGAN is going to back off now?

ERDOGAN IS GOING OVER THE TIGRIS INTO IRAQ, AND HE IS GOING SOUTH INTO ASSAD JUNIOR AND HE IS GOING FOR THE HOUSE OF SAUD AND JERUSALEM.

Heck, both Daniel Boone and Ragnarok are being optimists about what is coming down the next few days and weeks.

Putin, well Putin has also made the POLITICAL AND MILITARY MISCALCULATION AND BLUNDER OFF THE SCALE. PUTIN, LIKE THE GERMAN INDUSTRIALISTS THOUGHT THEY HAD BOUGHT OFF HITLER, BUT HE DIDN'T STAY BOUGHT AND WE KNOW HOW THAT TURNED OUT DON'T WE? NOW THAT ERDOGAN HAS THE S-400'S WHICH GIVES HIM OPERATIONAL SUPERIORITY OVER US AND NATO PLANES, PLUS THE VAST AMOUNT OF NATO ARMS HE GOT OVER THE LAST FEW DECADES, ERDOGAN IS FULLY POISED FOR A GENERAL MIDDLE EASTERN INVASTION, WITH NOBODY TO STOP HIM.

Erdogan played NATO, Trump, Putin, and the fully incompetent European civilian leaders like a violin. Besides his general military invasion, Erdogan is now going to send in 400,000 "refugees," to flood Europe.

Game over, Daniel Boone, And Ragnarok has called the Turkish refugee horde to the T.

The Europeans are hiding in the basement since Erdogan has called their bluff. IF NATO does anything at all to impeded his new, restored Ottoman Empire he will flood them with hundreds of thousands of "refugees,' and unleash a tidal wave of domestic anarchy in Europe. Last night several cities in Sweden were being burnt by rioting Muslims and the scenario is set. Erdogan can send in go orders to any European country he wants too and turn on the riots like flipping a light switch.

The Kurds need to locate sleeper cells into Syria and Iraq so that when this stuff starts the state that starts it starts loosing infrastructure! They are a people with little to lose and could be extremely dangerous.

    The Armenian Genocide

I will repeat it for the umpteenth time: ERDOGAN WANTS TO RESTORE THE HISTORICAL OTTOMAN EMPIRE AND THAT MEANS TURKEY, SYRIA, LEBANON, ISRAEL, ESPECIALLY JERUSALEM, SAUDI ARABIA, JORDAN. IRAQ ETC.

The Kurds are already dumping the USA and positioning themselves with Assad Junior and Putin, who is likely feeling screwed at this point.

    https://archive.nytimes.com/www.nyti...ide.html?mcubz

Armenian Genocide of 1915: An Overview
    By JOHN KIFNER

On the eve of World War I, there were two million Armenians in the declining Ottoman Empire. By 1922, there were fewer than 400,000. The others — some 1.5 million — were killed in what historians consider a genocide.

As David Fromkin put it in his widely praised history of World War I and its aftermath, “A Peace to End All Peace”: “Rape and beating were commonplace. Those who were not killed at once were driven through mountains and deserts without food, drink or shelter. Hundreds of thousands of Armenians eventually succumbed or were killed .”

The man who invented the word “genocide”— Raphael Lemkin, a lawyer of Polish-Jewish origin — was moved to investigate the attempt to eliminate an entire people by accounts of the massacres of Armenians. He did not, however, coin the word until 1943, applying it to Nazi Germany and the Jews in a book published a year later, “Axis Rule in Occupied Europe.”

But to Turks, what happened in 1915 was, at most, just one more messy piece of a very messy war that spelled the end of a once-powerful empire. They reject the conclusions of historians and the term genocide, saying there was no premeditation in the deaths, no systematic attempt to destroy a people. Indeed, in Turkey today it remains a crime — “insulting Turkishness” — to even raise the issue of what happened to the Armenians.

In the United States, a powerful Armenian community centered in Los Angeles has been pressing for years for Congress to condemn the Armenian genocide. Turkey, which cut military ties to France over a similar action, has reacted with angry threats. A bill to that effect nearly passed in the fall of 2007, gaining a majority of co-sponsors and passing a committee vote. But the Bush administration, noting that Turkey is a critical ally — more than 70 per cent of the military air supplies for Iraq go through the Incirlik airbase there — pressed for the bill to be withdrawn, and it was.

The roots of the genocide lie in the collapse of the Ottoman Empire.

The empire’s ruler was also the caliph, or leader of the Islamic community. Minority religious communities, like the Christian Armenians, were allowed to maintain their religious, social and legal structures, but were often subject to extra taxes or other measures.

Concentrated largely in eastern Anatolia, many of them merchants and industrialists, Armenians, historians say, appeared markedly better off in many ways than their Turkish neighbors, largely small peasants or ill-paid government functionaries and soldiers.

At the turn of the 20th Century, the once far-flung Ottoman empire was crumbling at the edges, beset by revolts among Christian subjects to the north — vast swaths of territory were lost in the Balkan Wars of 1912-13 — and the subject of coffee house grumbling among Arab nationalist intellectuals in Damascus and elsewhere.

The Young Turk movement of ambitious, discontented junior army officers seized power in 1908, determined to modernize, strengthen and “Turkify” the empire. They were led by what became an all-powerful triumvirate sometimes referred to as the Three Pashas.

In March of 1914, the Young Turks entered World War I on the side of Germany. They attacked to the east, hoping to capture the city of Baku in what would be a disastrous campaign against Russian forces in the Caucuses. They were soundly defeated at the battle of Sarikemish.

Armenians in the area were blamed for siding with the Russians and the Young Turks began a campaign to portray the Armenians as a kind of fifth column, a threat to the state. Indeed, there were Armenian nationalists who acted as guerrillas and cooperated with the Russians. They briefly seized the city of Van in the spring of 1915.

Armenians mark the date April 24, 1915, when several hundred Armenian intellectuals were rounded up, arrested and later executed as the start of the Armenian genocide and it is generally said to have extended to 1917. However, there were also massacres of Armenians in 1894, 1895, 1896, 1909, and a reprise between 1920 and 1923.

The University of Minnesota’s Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies has compiled figures by province and district that show there were 2,133,190 Armenians in the empire in 1914 and only about 387,800 by 1922.

Writing at the time of the early series of massacres, The New York Times suggested there was already a “policy of extermination directed against the Christians of Asia Minor.”

The Young Turks, who called themselves the Committee of Unity and Progress, launched a set of measures against the Armenians, including a law authorizing the military and government to deport anyone they “sensed” was a security threat.

A later law allowed the confiscation of abandoned Armenian property. Armenians were ordered to turn in any weapons that they owned to the authorities. Those in the army were disarmed and transferred into labor battalions where they were either killed or worked to death.

There were executions into mass graves, and death marches of men, women and children across the Syrian desert to concentration camps with many dying along the way of exhaustion, exposure and starvation.

Much of this was quite well documented at the time by Western diplomats, missionaries and others, creating widespread wartime outrage against the Turks in the West. Although its ally, Germany, was silent at the time, in later years documents have surfaced from ranking German diplomats and military officers expressing horror at what was going on.

Some historians, however, while acknowledging the widespread deaths, say what happened does not technically fit the definition of genocide largely because they do not feel there is evidence that it was well-planned in advance.

The New York Times covered the issue extensively — 145 articles in 1915 alone by one count — with headlines like “Appeal to Turkey to Stop Massacres.” The Times described the actions against the Armenians as “systematic,” “authorized, and “organized by the government.”

The American ambassador, Henry Morganthau Sr., was also outspoken. In his memoirs, the ambassador would write: “When the Turkish authorities gave the orders for these deportations, they were merely giving the death warrant to a whole race; they understood this well, and in their conversations with me, they made no particular attempt to conceal the fact.”

Following the surrender of the Ottoman Empire in 1918, the Three Pashas fled to Germany, where they were given protection. But the Armenian underground formed a group called Operation Nemesis to hunt them down. On March 15, 1921, one of the pashas was shot dead on a street in Berlin in broad daylight in front of witnesses. The gunman pled temporary insanity brought on by the mass killings and a jury took only a little over an hour to acquit him. It was the defense evidence at this trial that drew the interest of Mr. Lemkin, the coiner of “genocide.”

Syrian Kurds Say 'Partnership' With Assad Or Russia Likely If Turkey Invades

As we predicted in the wake of the White House's late Sunday announcement that “Turkey will soon be moving forward with its long-planned operation into Northern Syria” and that American troops will withdraw from the "immediate area" — this will ensure that the United States' Kurdish proxies in Syria, now in Erdogan's cross hairs, will quickly do a deal with "the devil we know" — that is, come under the protection of Assad and the Syrian Army.

On Monday the commander of the US trained and armed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), Mazlum Abdi, indicated just that in a bombshell statement. “We are considering a partnership with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, with the aim of fighting Turkish forces,” he said.

Twitter Apologizes for Allowing ‘Die Trump’ to Trend in Turkey

Twitter apologized on Monday for briefly allowing the phrase “Mahvolursun Trump,” which roughly translates as “Die Trump” to trend in Turkey.

“This phrase should not have appeared in trends, and we’re sorry for this mistake. At times, we do prevent certain content from trending and we have now done so with this trend,” a Twitter spokesperson told Breitbart News.

The phrase began to trend after Turkish Twitter users reacted with anger to President Donald Trump’s promise to “totally destroy and obliterate the economy of Turkey” if the country did anything “off-limits” following the U.S. pullout from Northern Syria.

….the captured ISIS fighters and families. The U.S. has done far more than anyone could have ever expected, including the capture of 100% of the ISIS Caliphate. It is time now for others in the region, some of great wealth, to protect their own territory. THE USA IS GREAT!

    — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) October 7, 2019
“As I have stated strongly before, and just to reiterate, if Turkey does anything that I, in my great and unmatched wisdom, consider to be off limits, I will totally destroy and obliterate the Economy of Turkey (I’ve done before!),” said the President.

“They must, with Europe and others, watch over the captured ISIS fighters and families. The U.S. has done far more than anyone could have ever expected, including the capture of 100% of the ISIS Caliphate. It is time now for others in the region, some of great wealth, to protect their own territory. THE USA IS GREAT!”

In response, Turkish politician Doğu Perinçek, chairman of the left-wing nationalist Patriotic Party, tweeted “Mr. Trump you can destroy only USA,” along with the hashtag “#MahvolursunTrump,” (“Die Trump”) which subsequently trended on Turkish Twitter.

Numerous angered Turkish Twitter users posted to the hashtags, with comments including “you are doomed to be destroyed,” “snake Trump,” and “Yankee go home!”

The trend has now been stopped by Twitter.

LOL so was I. Stationed at Fort Hood, TX. Living off post, got up at regular time, and drove in, with NO TRAFFIC. I was like O, No, something has happened, and I wasn't notified, I'm in trouble. You know what traffic is like @ 6 in the AM everybody trying to get on post - nightmare.

Well go on over to your office, they're loading up the C5's (?) for the trip to Germany, the boys over there are headed to the middle east. You're section SGT will keep you informed when they are ready for you to go load up.

I was a young Christian, and had never heard of all this until I read that book. Was just starting doing Bible Studies, doing scripture memory, witnessing, etc... I was like, it's the end of the world, and I don't know anything. LOL I was a wreck.

I did, and still do think, it was ok to be a Christian, AND a soldier at the same time.

Almost certainly will not be allowed to occur, if the Russians have anything to say about it - or, the Israelis, or the U.S. and other NATO members, or the Saudis, or the UAE bunch - a couple of well-planned/equipped air campaigns AGAINST such an obvious act of Turk aggression would do the trick in reminding the Turks that they, too, can be rendered inert, if they decide to get jiggy - the Syrian government Army can do the mop up - NOBODY in that neighborhood would want to see the Turks pull such a stunt.

U.S. Effectively Blocks Turkey from Operating in Syrian Airspace

The Pentagon stated on Monday that Turkey has been removed from the “air tasking order” employed by members of the anti-Islamic State coalition operating in Syria.

This means Turkish planes will have considerable difficulty entering Syrian airspace to support the invasion threatened by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and will not benefit from surveillance data collected by the coalition.

“If you’re not on the air tasking order, it’s really hard to coordinate flights in that area,” explained Pentagon spokeswoman Carla Gleason.

The Defense Department took pains on Monday to make it clear the United States “does not endorse a Turkish operation in northern Syria” and “will not support or be involved in any such operation,” as another Pentagon spokesman, Jonathan Hoffman, put it.

“In conversations between the department and the Turkish military we have consistently stressed that coordination and cooperation were the best path toward security in the area,” Hoffman said.

Secretary of Defense Mark Esper and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Milley said they have stressed to their counterparts in Ankara that “unilateral action creates risks for Turkey.”

The Turkish Defense Ministry nevertheless stated on Tuesday that “all preparations for the operation have been completed.”

“The establishment of a Safe Zone/Peace Corridor is essential for Syrians to have a safe life by contributing to the stability and peace of our region. Turkish Security Forces will never tolerate the creation of a terror corridor at our borders,” the Defense Ministry said.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry said the operation will eliminate “a serious threat to the territorial integrity and unity of Syria” and “prevent the recurrence of the terrorist Daesh and similar problems in the future.”

Daesh is another name for the Islamic State, which Turkey portrays as one of its two main nemeses in the Syrian border region. The other is the Syrian Kurdish militia known as the YPG, which Turkey regards as an extension of the PKK, a Kurdish separatist party in Turkey designated a terrorist organization by the United States, European countries, and NATO, of which Turkey is a member. All of those other nations and organizations disagree with Turkey’s classification of the YPG as terrorists, having worked with the Syrian Kurds for years to defeat ISIS.

Turkish officials told Reuters on Tuesday they have conducted strikes along the border between Syria and Iraq to prevent Kurdish reinforcements from moving through Iraq.

“In this way, the group’s transit to Syria and support lines, including ammunition, are shut off,” a Turkish source said, without providing details of the strikes or how they were carried out. Reuters expressed skepticism about Turkey’s claims, as its reports saw no signs of activity from major Turkish artillery positions near the border.

Good one, Housecarl, Adults in Europe? Oh, My side is splitting.
Seriously, Europe hasn't had an adult leader since Winston in 1945.

Erdogan is crazy like a fox. And don't think for one instant he won't launch his fighter jets and bombers into Northern Syria whatever the USA says. He now has Russian S-400 missiles, gang and that CHANGES EVERYTHING.

That being said, I strongly suspect that the Russians have a "back door" into those S-400s.

The Washington Post reports that the expected major Turkish military incursion into northeast Syria which set off a firestorm early this week after the White House appeared to give the green light in a Sunday night statement will commence in the next 24 hours.

"There are indications that it is coming in the next 24 hours. Most likely at Tal Abyad and Ras al-Ain, according to press reports and the Turkish build up," the Post's Liz Sly stated, citing a prior report. This after Turkish warplanes had already conducted limited bombing of select Kurdish supply routes along the Syria-Iraq border. Turkey has confirmed the reports, via Reuters:

You do NOT have a green light to enter into northern Syria.

There is massive bipartisan opposition in Congress, which you should see as a red line you should not cross.
