Left Wing Students Cry Foul as U. Texas Removes Campus Free Speech Zones

“What [some organizations] are currently doing is making students feel unsafe and unwelcome”

What does this tell you about who benefits from the suppression of free speech?

    Campus Reform reports:

University of Texas eliminates free speech zones…and leftist students are not happy

The University of Texas has eliminated its free speech zones, confining free speech to certain spaces, after the Texas legislature passed a major piece of free speech legislation in the spring.

UT Austin President Gregory Fenves said that the university made the policy changes in order to conform with the new state law, in an August 30 statement addressed to the campus community.

“For generations, the University of Texas at Austin has thrived because of its commitment to free speech and an open exchange of ideas,” Fenves said. “Our campus is a hub for people to gather and share different perspectives and experiences.”

Another provision of SB 18 forces universities to create “disciplinary sanctions” for those who interfere with others’ right to free speech.

UT Austin spokesman J.B. Bird said that the policy still permits the school to regulate expression that disrupts the campus learning environment…

However, the University Democrats are not pleased with the bill and argued that organizations could use it to make some students feel unsafe.

“What [some organizations] are currently doing is making students feel unsafe and unwelcome,” University Democrats President Joe Cascino, according to the Daily Texan. “I believe that universities should be able to step in and keep people like [Richard] Spencer or useless incendiary protests like [Young Conservatives of Texas’] or Turning Point’s from happening.”

You believe incorrectly, snowflake. Not just that universities should be able to step in and stop things, but that the protests against you and your way of life are "useless."

In other words, you are adamantly OPPOSED to TRUE UNFETTERED "FREE SPEECH".

Yet the concept that what the left is doing on campus is making students feel unsafe and unwelcome seems to be lost on this communist tool. He is either brain-dead, lying to himself or evil. (or some combination of all three)

What about how the Democrats make the conservatives feel "unsafe" and "unwelcome?" Kiddos have to get used to the fact that challenging ideas and opinions in opposition to their own are usually uncomfortable to hear and consider. It is the belief that such "uncomfortable" exchange of ideas broadens the mind and the perspective - leading to change. That this is preferable to shutting down the expression of oppositional thought and forcing conformity by not tolerating conflicting ideas.

These budding progressives may be the "A" students the conservative silent, tongue biting "C" student sitting in class next to them either fires or refuses to hire.
