Hmm. This is one of those areas where context is king. Once upon a time, in a land far far away a man might physically reprimand a woman and it be a healthy thing. Or, not an unhealthy one.

But, here, now, it just is not. By the same token, I don't have permission to raise my hand against a partner no matter how badly he might need a little correction, or how badly I am hurting.

Any two adults are free to negotiate terms amongst themselves...but there are myriad ways to explore the issues of power and submission between two people without involving that gray area where touch risks becoming toxic MOON™

...now, a swat on the bottom.... Only if he's been very very good ; )

Never felt the urge to hit a woman. For any offense real or imagined.

I do remember one instance where I think I was being goaded into the act for some strange exhibition and proof that I cared enough to get that mad. I didn't. And I didn't.

Have heard a couple of the more, ahem, "base model" 20 something Knuckle draggin' males say "If a woman wants to act like a man, I'll whoop her @ss like a man". That's pure equality, right?

Many of the deputies I worked with years ago felt that way. “Act like a lady, get treated like one, act like a violent, rabid animal...” of course, that was before pepper spray and tasers. It was batons and PR 24s for the wood shampoo!

I may side with the knuckledraggers to some extent. Hands off might be the best rule of thumb, but when someone changes the ROE, you don't play punching bag.

Act like a lady, get treated like one,

Yup. Sir S. Connery was describing a "bitch smack". Methinks you're talking about a "bitch whack".

I never deployed either. Now that .guv can take our guns for such, all the more reason not to....

Pryin' mine from my cold dead hands won't be because of a woman.

My wife has hit me in frustration during a handful of arguments. It was an act of frustration and disrespect.

I've never hit her, and the only time I left a bruise on her was when I was holding her arms to her sides in self defense, and I gripped her wrist too tightly.

    Ohh..

Yeah.. For those of you who saw my previous post. Yes.. Our divorce will be moving forward.. I'm over the grief period, and am just looking forward to getting it over with.

While I am sorry this chapter ends on a hurtful note, I am pleased that things will be moving fwd sooner rather than later. We're all allotted our share of rocky roads, and theyre priceless. Still, no sense in lingering any longer than needed upin them.

I caution you though, that odds are good that you're no where near done grieving. Whether death or divorce seperates us, the reflection and regrets still seems to be wont to pop back up periodically. No big deal, as long as you're prepared, and let yourself feel it.

Congrats too on being able to say you never hit her. I've never hit in anger, but have shoved folks away, literally and figuratively, and that kind of physical straight jacket\body wrap is the appropriate response, i think. Its messy, less than perfect, and leaves scars on both people, in my experience...but nothing is perfect, in life, least of all us humans.

None of it is a sane person's idea of a good time, but there really is something to be gained from the experience...so take your best self, highest values, and a deep breath or two, and sally forth on the next leg of the journey. I promise you there are still days full of sunshine in store for you.
