8chan offline after Internet company Cloudflare pulls support for 'cesspool of hate' online forum

El Paso shooting: 8chan offline after Internet company Cloudflare pulls support for 'cesspool of hate' online forum
    James Rogers
    3-4 minutes

Controversial online forum 8chan is offline after Internet services company Cloudflare pulled its support for the site in the wake of the horrific El Paso mass shooting that left 22 people dead and two dozen injured.

Police are investigating commentary posted on 8chan that is believed to have been written by the suspect in the shooting Saturday at an El Paso Walmart.

Cloudflare, which provides services that protect against distributed denial-of-service attacks, pulled its support for 8chan at 3 a.m. ET Monday. In a blog post, Cloudflare CEO Matthew Prince described 8chan as “a cesspool of hate.”

"The mass shootings in El Paso, Texas and Dayton, Ohio are horrific tragedies. In the case of the El Paso shooting, the suspected terrorist gunman appears to have been inspired by the forum website known as 8chan,” he explained, in the post. “Based on evidence we've seen, it appears that he posted a screed to the site immediately before beginning his terrifying attack on the El Paso Walmart killing 20 people.”

The first sentence of the online rant posted on the 8chan message board expressed support for the man accused of killing 51 people at two New Zealand mosques in March after posting a 74-page document promoting a white supremacist conspiracy theory called "the great replacement."

“Nearly the same thing happened on 8chan before the terror attack in Christchurch, New Zealand,” Prince wrote, in the blog post. “The El Paso shooter specifically referenced the Christchurch incident and appears to have been inspired by the largely unmoderated discussions on 8chan which glorified the previous massacre. In a separate tragedy, the suspected killer in the Poway, California synagogue shooting also posted a hate-filled ‘open letter’ on 8chan.”

8chan creator, Fredrick Brennan, praised Cloudflare’ s move. “Finally, this nightmare might have an end,” he wrote on Twitter. Brennan, who is no longer involved with the online forum, had urged 8chan’s operators to “do the world a favor” and shut the message board down.

“There might be some downtime in the next 24-48 hours while we find a solution (that includes our email so timely compliance with law enforcement requests may be affected),” wrote 8chan’s operators on Twitter Monday.

In 2017, Cloudflare expelled white supremacist site the Daily Stormer from its service in the wake of the Charlottesville violence.

“Almost exactly two years ago we made the determination to kick another disgusting site off Cloudflare's network: the Daily Stormer,” Prince wrote. “That caused a brief interruption in the site's operations but they quickly came back online using a Cloudflare competitor.”

“They are no longer Cloudflare's problem, but they remain the Internet's problem,” he added. “I have little doubt we'll see the same happen with 8chan.”

This is what I was thinking as well. Also on the news at lunch, some official claimed that law enforcement couldn't track people through 8chan and the like because they can post anonymously. If so then how the hell did they link the manifesto to this whack job?
People are quick to confuse and despise confidence as arrogance but that is common amongst those who have never accomplished anything in their lives and who have always played it safe not willing to risk failure.

Downtime is expected to be intermittent and last the next 24 to 48 hours, according to 8chan's Twitter feed.

A large group of midlist and bestselling authors banded together to try to get cloudflare to drop several large pirate sites. DMCA notices are useless with them since they don't host anything, they only reroute, so we tried having a conversation with them, and all we heard was how they don't police the internet, that their sole reason for being in business is because the internet needs to be the wild west, where everyone has a voice. Yada yada. There was this "personal background" BS where the guy says he doesn't want to be the person who can wake up one morning and decide a site doesn't need to have a voice anymore.

Apparently, they *do* police the internet when someone comes up against their ideological world view. As someone else says, they take money from ISIS, for f#*%$ sake.

Facebook runs their own servers unlike 8chan which rents time on someone elses servers.

But I am surprised that 8chan doesn't have a contract with cloudflare similar to a lease which provides a notice period before discontinuing service. If they do it will be an interesting lawsuit and 8chan should be able to make some cash.

    Um. The DNC OWNS C-span.

Not accurately said - actually DEEP STATE owns C-Span. The DNC is just the "re-election" arm of the larger Deep State. And C-Span is the propaganda headquarters.

Because deep state put it there so they knew exactly where to find it.

Did y'all READ that manifesto? Full of filth and hatred but my gut told me, with the kids our public school systems are turning out, COLLEGES INCLUDED, and 20-21 year old did NOT write that vomit. Was done by an older person who is a dem suffering from TDS.

Some anon on the chan agreed it wasn't written by a 20-21 year-old........

Agreed! That was not the writing style of a youngster who has been through US public school English lately.

This same tactic is going to be used over and over again to take out websites that interfere with the narrative of the deepstate. Eventually it can used to even take down sites like this one. Eventually there won't even be any sites left to tell people that censorship is going on. All of the news will be totally controlled.

Jim Watkins, owner of 8chan posted a video statement today; you can see it here on Twitter and it's also on Youtube
    https://twitter.com/infinitechan/sta...88643856420869
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_c...&v=yKPdbEAmWGE

He said the El Paso shooter posted on Instagram and someone else brought it over to 8chan. LE is aware of this. (Too bad the general public is not)

If 8Chan was a forum dedicated to homosexual tendency would they have been as quickly shut down after the Bakery Incident?

  25. As predicted in our statement to Buzzfeed: 8chan is indeed online. It's on ZeroNet, a decentralized and open source peer-to-peer version of the internet.

It literally can not be censored now. By anyone. At all.
Not admins. Not governments. No one.

    Happy now, media elites?

Comments from Gab on same thread....

“As of 2016 there is no way to take down a ZeroNet page which still has seeders, thus making such pages immune to third-party methods of taking them down, including DMCA takedown notices.”

Please be warned: ZERO censorship means ZERO censorship. Meaning illegal content also can NOT be removed. There’s a reason tech like this never went mainstream at scale, but the point is you can’t stop the chans. No one can stop the chans.

Given their latest move is this guy even still "the owner" of 8chan? It doesn't sound like the concept of ownership works in the 'verse they now live in.

And...Instagram is owned by Facebook, started 2/4/04, and Facebook (originally named Lifelog, ended 2/4/04) was founded by Darpa.

Now isn't that interesting? Why was 8Chan shut down and blamed and not Instagram? It's been proven by date/timestamps and yet, nothing.
And how do we know this was posted by the shooter? Anyone? No one in law enforcement OR the media has come forward to verify this...because they can't and they know they can't. If they do, the whole story falls apart and we can't have that, now, can we?

Okay, I know we know why but if you only thought you were paranoid about things like this, you're not paranoid enough...lol.

Awww, what do I know, I'm just some crazy old woman living in the back hills of nowhere...

There was a case not long ago over posts made on 8chan, the FBI release screenshots of the posts in a warrant and it showed where they'd the FBI had been posting encouraging and inflammatory comments in those threads.

8chan owner says El Paso shooter didn't post manifesto - Jim Watkins says it was first posted on Instagram and then re-posted by someone else on 8chan.

So does anyone know how to get to the new 8chan site. Is it as simple as using 8chan.com or is it more complex now.

Ron/CodeMonkeyZ says not to go to ZeroNet OR any other "8Chan" site as it's NOT them, and I'm assuming, not safe. All the Q posts will be on Qmap.pub until things get sorted out. I was just there and no new posts have been made. All you can do is check it every now and then and if they get another board back up, he'd let everyone know.

I didn't see where Ron said not to go on ZeroNet. He did day HIS team didn't set it up and he doesn't know who did. Rumor is it was the admin of /v/ that set it up.
