The U.S.A. is once again the leader in oil production. Why do we need to fill our tanks because of Iran??

I am -really- tired of the U.S. somehow being designated as "World Cop" just to ensure the comfortable lifestyle of some Mid-East oil baron royalty pants loads.

Since Saudi ships were attacked, let's see Saudi Arabia expend their own blood and treasure attacking Iran and let Saudi Arabia deal with any Iranian retaliation.

No U.S. assets have been attacked, yet. If and when that happens, then of course, we should unleash All Living Hell on those attackers.

Right now, I think our quick military buildup has given Iran pause and is, at best, using minor attacks by their proxies to save face domestically.

Brent oil moves towards $73 on Middle East tensions

    Shadia Nasralla
    May 15, 2019 / 9:56 PM / Updated 22 minutes ago

LONDON (Reuters) - Oil prices rose on Thursday for a third day running as fears of supply disruption amid heightened tensions in the Middle East overshadowed swelling U.S. crude inventories.

Brent crude futures were up $1.03 at $72.80 a barrel by 1344 GMT, heading for the biggest weekly rise in about three months
    .

U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures were up 83 cents at $62.85.
Oil was drawing support from the risk of conflict in the Middle East, with helicopters carrying U.S. staff from the U.S. embassy in Baghdad on Wednesday out of apparent concern over perceived threats from Iran
    .

“Brent looks poised to breach the upper bound of its recent $70-$73 a barrel price range as bullish headlines from the (Mideast) Gulf continue worrying investors,” Citi said in a note.

A rise in U.S. crude oil inventories to their highest since 2017 helped to cap prices, though government data pointed to a smaller increase than previous industry data, with falling gasoline stocks also providing some price support.

Also keeping prices in check is uncertainty about whether the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and other producers will continue supply cuts that have boosted prices more than 30% so far this year.

OPEC said on Tuesday that world demand for its oil would be higher than expected this year.

For a graphic on U.S. crude inventories, weekly changes since 2017, see - tmsnrt.rs/2XlX17b

Despite continuing trade tensions between the United States and China, which have weighed on the demand outlook, the oil market is marked by tight supply.

“There is ... more supply at risk to a new U.S. war in the Middle East than demand at risk to the continuation of the trade war with China,” Petromatrix analyst Olivier Jakob said in a note.

An end this month to U.S. waivers that allowed some countries to buy Iranian oil after the reimposition of U.S. sanctions has prompted Tehran to relax restrictions on its nuclear programme and threaten action that could breach a 2015 nuclear deal.

An attack on four oil tankers in the Gulf on Sunday, for which no one has claimed responsibility, and Saudi Arabia’s announcement that armed drones hit two of its oil pumping stations have compounded supply-side fears.

The long term military buildup gives credibility to the quick military buildup.

LONDON (Reuters) - Britain has raised the threat level for military forces and diplomats in Iraq because of a heightened security risk from Iran, Sky News said on Thursday.

A spokeswoman for Britain’s Foreign Office declined to immediately comment on the report.

Britain also put its personnel and their families in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Qatar on an increased state of alert, Sky said.

Britain says shares same assessment of Iran as the United States

    May 16, 2019 / 10:38 AM / Updated 8 minutes ago

LONDON (Reuters) - Britain agrees with the United States that Iran poses a heightened threat and will work closely with its ally, Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt said on Thursday.

Hunt said he had discussed Iran with U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo last week in London, and again in Brussels on Monday.

“We share the same assessment of the heightened threat posed by Iran,” Hunt said on Twitter. “As always we work closely with the USA.”

Earlier this week, Britain’s defence ministry backed a British general who appeared to question the Trump administration’s claims that an imminent threat had emerged from Iran.

The U.S. military has sent forces, including an aircraft carrier and B-52 bombers, to the Middle East in a move that U.S. officials said was made to counter “clear indications” of threats from Iran to American forces in the region.

However, Chris Ghika, the deputy commander of the U.S.-led coalition fighting Islamic State in Syria and Iraq, said that there had been no increased threat from Iranian-backed forces.

His remarks contradicted the U.S. claims and prompted a rare public rebuttal from the Pentagon.

Navy Captain Bill Urban, lead spokesman for U.S. Central Command, said the remarks by the British general, ran counter to U.S. intelligence.

Persians are not Arabs, they don't think like Arabs, they don't act like Arabs and them don't wage wars exactly like Arabs.

In some ways, their thinking is closer to the Wests because they are Indo-Europeans but in other ways, they can pull some real surprises.

Iraq was a cobbled together "State" drawn on a map by Colonial Powers and then held together by a secular dictator for a couple of generations but it was never really a "People" but rather a bunch of tribes, some of whom hated each other.

Iran, on the other hand, has 5,000 years plus of nearly continuous culture and at times high civilization and even Empires; not everyone that lives in Iran is Persian but most people are - they are A People with a capital P.

Then there is all those mountains and another harsh geography, huge Navy, a large (aka expendable) younger generation and an official religion with a larger focus on "The End Times" (Shia Version) than most of the Sunni Arab world.

That doesn't mean everyone in Iran is a fundamentalist Shia nutcase; it does mean that as a major life worldview the concept of just blowing everything up (including yourself) and letting "Allah" sort them out, may not be a horrifying concept.
