Meghan Markle Wears $1,900 Custom Calvin Klein Dress Amid ‘Overspending’ Accusations

Meghan Spent a Half Million Dollars In 2018

Meghan Markle Wears $1,900 Custom Calvin Klein Dress Amid ‘Overspending’ Accusations

    By Catherine Armecin

Meghan Markle wore an expensive outfit amid the overspending accusations being thrown her way.

On Tuesday night, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped out together at the Natural History Museum. Markle turned heads as she looked stunning in her white outfit that was similar to the one she donned when she visited the Mayhew animal welfare charity in London in January.

According to Sarah Finley, a journalist for Daily Mail, Markle’s recent dress is a custom Calvin Klein that cost $1,900. This means it’s worth 60 times more than her H&M maternity dress from last month that only retailed for $32. The two outfits are very similar in length, shape and color.

Markle’s new Calvin Klein outfit is a shorter version of a maxi dress released as part of the brand’s 205W39NYC Resort 2019 collection. In addition, the custom dress features a turtleneck design.

A few weeks ago, Markle was accused of overspending. One netizen took to Twitter to deny that the Duchess of Sussex was condemned for her heritage and feminist views.

“There are many many reasons why she is disliked, mainly dishonesty and extreme spending from clothes to renovations,” Taz81 wrote.

It was reported earlier that Markle spent $517,000 for her new clothes in 2018. The amount was almost six times more than her sister-in-law Kate Middleton’s clothing expenses — estimated to be at $87,000.

The netizen added that it is an “obscene amount of money” to spend on clothing when no other royals, including Queen Elizabeth II, splurge that much for her outfits. The Twitter user advised Markle to cut back on her wardrobe expenses by only wearing expensive dresses for state banquets.

In related news, Middleton and Markle’s one-shoulder gowns recently sparked a double standard debate. The Duchess of Cambridge was praised after wearing a one-shoulder white Alexander McQueen gown at the BAFTAs on Sunday. Markle was previously photographed wearing a similar Givenchy black gown at the British Fashion Awards, but she was criticized and called “vulgar” for doing so.

Prior to Middleton and Markle’s one-shoulder gown controversy, Princess Diana was also seen wearing the same design on multiple occasions. The late Princess of Wales’ photos wearing one-shoulder gowns recently resurfaced on Twitter.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Meghan Markle wore a custom Calvin Klein dress that costs 60 times more than a similar wardrobe from H&M. Seems like not too many people like Meghan. Oh well. This is the Calvin Klein dress, which I don't care for, but if Harry lets her spend like that on clothes that's his problem. In my life I've owned two things by Calvin and I loved them both. One was a cool pair of medium blue blue jeans. Perfect fit. The other was a two-piece silk dress. It had long sleeves and a loose skirt and was light beige and white vertical stripes, I wore it out. It was expensive, but I had a couple bucks back then.

It would be more truthful if it was known if Harry was footing the bill or if Merkel was spending her own money. Unlike Kate, Megan had a lucrative career before the nuptials. But you're right. Those Brits will always be slamming Merkel for one thing or another. She took an eligible bachelor, and a royal one at that, out of circulation.

$1900 for that, and they couldn't be bothered with hemming it after trying it on to accomodate her baby bump? I would have been kicked out of 4-H dress review if I ever presented anything that badly fitted!

Well, except probably most of them bitching are good little socialists, and it doesn't matter whose money she's spending... what's bugging them is she has it to spend snd they don't. And that's not fair!!

The writer of this article is just being a catty bitch.

$1900 for a Calvin Klein dress is a mere pittance for someone in her station in life.

I mean, how much money was spent on Diana?

No one cared and I still don't, when you have to do charities and go out all the time like she does, she represents the royal family and must dress accordingly within her class.

So that writer Catherine Armecin is being quite gauche and a bazaari as they say in Iran. V

(just signed in so I could check the attached pic.) Wow. It IS badly fitted! Looks like she bought it months ago - should have saved it for after the delivery. What was she thinking? That outie navel bumb isn't helping either.

By the looks of her ankles, she's handling the pregnancy well, for an older mom.

She should wear whatever she feels good and confident in, as long as they can afford it. Again, these folks do a lot for promoting the fashion houses...although I agree, this particular piece could use some help.

"Good show, Prince Harry! The paparazzi positively adore Meghan's telltale tummy
bulge. I'm here to invite Meghan to make a guest appearance with the Teletubbies.
She won't need to wear a costume, but it would increase our ratings substantially!"

Gaudy and ill fitting in her condition. Really, it reminds me of something "The Mooch" would wear.

At the same time, she should be able to wear what she wants, price wise, as long as it's her and Harry's money.

I agree with summerthyme and Summer Breeze. For as expensive as that dress is, they/she should have made sure it fit right! It does not give a good reputation to Calvin Klein! And it looks terrible on markle. Especially with that "outie" as it's referred to.

I also agree that markle should be able to wear what she wants...........JUST AS LONG as it is her money or Harry's money buying the clothing. If not, then whoever is supplying the money has the right to, and should, give her a budget. Half a million is a LOT to spend on clothing for just ONE YEAR!!
