I never had mumps as a kid. Had all the other common "childhood" diseases of the day: chicken pox, measles and rubella but not mumps. However my younger brother had mumps on the left side, right side and both sides.
Yes....three times.
....and no he was not a happy camper.
I never received the MMR since I'd already had three out of four and later while in the navy I had a blood titer done and did have antibodies against mumps. So evidently I was exposed enough to build up a resistance to mumps without actually having the disease. High enough that I wouldn't have to get the MMR vaccination.
Even so, I still avoid anyone that might be infected with mumps just to be on the safe side.
We have done so much, with so little, for so long....We can now do anything, with nothing, forever.
