2 William P Barr Possible Lead Candidate for Trump's U.S. Attorney General????

Okay, this is a WaPo story with 'unnamed sources' so it could be a complete fabrication. Then again it could be a trial balloon sent up by Trump.

When I heard about this on the radio I was livid to think Trump would be picking a Bush appointee; "Trump is supposed to be DRAINING the swamp, NOT adding to it!"

So I headed over to CTH to read the poop on Barr, but Sundance doesn't give any opinion - just reports the story, but perusing through the comments section, I did read some information that lessens my anxiety on Barr. So I'm going to post the comment first, then the article.

    Fair use

Lurking Lawyer here. WaPo is not a reliable source, so this. [Co]uld be a trial ballon. Researched Barr before opining. My 2 cents:

Worked several years in the Reagan White House on domestic policy. A plus.

Was Acting AG when 125 violent Cuban prisoners awaiting extradition (Muriel sequela) rioted, took nine hostages. Barr ordered FBI and others to (armed) counterattack. Result, all hostages freed, several Cuban criminals dead. Tough hombre. So Bush made him AG from Acting.

After leaving Bush 41 admin went to be senior corporate exec for 14 years (GTE, acquired by Vweizon). ‘Retired’ in 2009 and became of counsel to Kirkland and Ellis, the same law we used at BCG back when I was a very senior BCG partner. Corporate exec, NOT swamp. Trump kind of guy.

in my opinion would be a GOOD Trump choice, for three reasons:
    1. His recent comments are more Hillary to be investigated, and Mueller charter was too broad.
    2. AG is a senior exec under PDJT. Not a doer as much as an exec making sure his direct reports and their direct reports DO what he and PDJT want done. Exactly what DoJ needs to root out deep state. Barr is a legal Wilbur Ross.
    3. No way given this weeks GHWB circus Barr would not get approved by Senate. Remember there are at least 6 more than just shaky GOPe Senators in the upcoming 116th session.

Report: William P Barr Possible Lead Candidate for U.S. Attorney General….
Posted on December 6, 2018 by sundance

According to a report in the Washington Post William P Barr is the leading candidate to replace Jeff Sessions as U.S. Attorney General. Barr previously served as AG under George HW Bush. The other possible candidate is Rep. John Ratcliffe from Texas.

(Washington Post) Former attorney general William P. Barr is President Trump’s leading candidate to be nominated to lead the Justice Department — a choice that could be made in coming days as the agency presses forward with a probe of Russian interference in the 2016 election, according to multiple people familiar with the deliberations.

Barr, 68, a well-respected Republican lawyer who served as attorney general from 1991 to 1993 under President George H.W. Bush, has emerged as a favorite candidate of a number of Trump administration officials, including senior lawyers in the White House Counsel’s Office, these people said. Two people familiar with the discussions said the president has told advisers in recent days that he plans to nominate Barr.

One person familiar with the discussions cautioned that while Barr is the leading candidate, the decision is not final and the president could decide to pick someone else. (read more)

I'm pretty sure this is a duplicate thread. BE beat you to it and is ecstatic!
Wouldn't this guy be pretty old if he was Reagan's AG?

    ETA: Ok, she's not ecstatic.

He is 67 years old. Does this like the picture of a 67year old man?

    Wrong.

He served as Attorney General from 1991 to 1993 during the administration of President George H. W. Bush.
