“Bryce Viole, 19, told Sun Online how he jumped head first out of a glass window, sustaining several injuries, to escape a mass shooter Speaking outside the hospital where he had received treatment , the brave teenager described the gunman as about 6ft tall wearing all black and a baseball cap.

He said: “I looked over and saw the shooter and the gun and I just dropped to the floor and started crawling towards the window. He just kept firing towards the pool table area.I ran and dove out the window head first, I just smashed through the glass and jumped out.It was about a six foot drop but once I saw that gun I wasn’t messing around.“

The shooter was only four or five feet away from me.“He was in all black with a baseball cap and I thought I saw he had a ski mask on.“He had some smoke bombs and he threw those around the bar area but I got out pretty quick.I cut my ankle open and cut my whole kneecap open. My wrist is all messed up the meat part of my hand was just all hanging off.”
Brave is newspeak for scared sh*tless.

Can't say that I blame him.

side note: WTH is a teen doing in a bar?

    later post:

Dean said it appears Long shot the unarmed security guard first, turned to the right to shoot other security and staff members before opening fire on the rest of the patrons. No one at the venue was armed with a gun.

... and this included how many cops?

Gun free zones are notorious for being kill zones.

Avoid them as if your life depends upon it... it does.

Las Vegas is close by, and lots and lots and lots of college students going to Vegas quite often from Thousand Oaks. The country scene there isn’t huge, so if there are only a dozen people who were at both events I would be surprised it is so low.

Check out the wristbands. 21+ get a wristband, under 21 gets a different wrist band. They had 16+ nights as well, pretty much the only place in town to go dancing. And definitely the only place for country dancing. Back in the 90’s the 16+ nights had country, swing, and pop dancing.

The very first defense, is to be someplace else.

The peoples at this nightclub/bar had a target
on their backs, just asking to be attacked.

This is 2018 FUSA, not 1957 USA.
Places that were safe to be at in 1957 USA,
have basically now become killing zones,
    in the 2018 FUSA.

No malls, no movie theaters, no state fairs(especially them),
no public transportation, even now houses of worship
are being attacked, however many in this area have armed up.

Peoples need to realize, that society has changed for the worse,
and they need to adapt accordingly, by staying away venues,
that have large numbers of peoples.

Reducing these types of targets, is the first step that needs
to be taken. If that means closing them down,
then close them down, or continue to have attacks,
    such as this one.

Please be safe everyone, and please arm up.

    AVOID THE GROID/GHOUL
In honour of the brave Whites in South Africa,
as they fight against their genocide.

I pray for the White race in South Africa,
with every prayer, and so should you,
    if you pray.

    Regards to all deplorables.

Las Vegas and Thousand Oaks are almost five hours apart driving. That's not "close" or "near by" to me. Las Vegas is five hours from here and it's never seemed "close," though people from smaller eastern states often underestimate distances in the west. Maybe the draw of country music that isn't as easy to find as it used to be would pull people to Las Vegas, but I wouldn't think there would be a lot of driving back and forth.

Most certainly but I don't recall him being a Marine.

I’m basing my opinion of close on how often people, especially young adults, from Thousand Oaks go to Las Vegas. I always preferred the hop from Burbank to Vegas than driving, but when you have enough people in the car it scales a whole lot better for driving.

Thousand Oaks is pretty boring. That is why young people head off to Big Bear, San Diego, Lake Havasu and Vegas every month or two for a trip.

That dust at the clock face in the Whitman photo in #127 is from a bullet impact. Locals unhorsed (untrucked?) their deer rifles and kept Whitman pinned down after it became known what was happening. Whitman was confined to shooting through the drains around the perimeter of the platform after that, greatly reducing his ability to do harm.

As for the overlap, 4 of the 58 casualties at Route 91 were from the communities around Borderline. Thousand Oaks, Simi Valley, Camarillo and Oxnard. A few LA people might have been in the valley and therefore also likely patrons of Borderline, but I don’t want to stretch.

But there was a lot of coverage, beginning when it first happened. Two networks were all over it when I woke up at 4 am, and the Today show was on it all morning long. Twitter was blanketed on #Breaking. Our local news covered it at noon. You have to know where to look.

I am so freaking tired about hearing about PTSD like it's an excuse for everything.
If you have it, why can't you just off yourself, instead of a bunch of innocent people.

California shooter Ian David Long was ‘weird’ loner, danced in garage

California bar shooter was US Marine who may have been suffering PTSD

California bar shooter Ian David Long was a “weird” loner who practiced dance moves alone in his garage — and at least once before had visited the bar he shot up, his former roommate told The Post on Thursday.
Blake Winnett awoke to the news that his ex-roomie was the madman who gunned down 12 people inside Borderline Bar & Grill in Thousand Oaks late Wednesday.
“I think I’ve actually gone there with him one time,” Winnett said.
The two men lived together twice before, around 2012 and 2014, in Simi Valley and Reseda, a neighborhood in Los Angeles.
“He was kind of weird. He always locked himself in his room, he was always by himself,” recalled Winnett, 35. “I didn’t really know him very well.”
At the time, Long, a 28-year-old former Marine, was a student at a college in Northridge, though Winnett couldn’t remember where or what he was studying. He said he knew that Long served two or three tours overseas with the US Marine Corps but not much else.
Winnett never witnessed Long get physical with anyone — but said he wasn’t exactly the world’s best roommate.
“He didn’t want to help anyone do anything. He was just lazy, I guess,” Winnett recalled. When Long was once asked to take out the trash, he snarled, “That’s not my f—ing job,” Winnett said.
“He wasn’t violent but he was mean,” he added. “He would go to the gym and then he would, I guess, try to learn dance moves or something. He would close the garage and be playing music and dancing in there, like sweating. I would open the garage and would be like, ‘What are you doing?'”
Authorities are scrambling to figure out why Long opened fire inside Borderline, killing bouncers, patrons and Ventura County Sheriff’s Deputy Sgt. Ron Helus, before fatally shooting himself inside an office.
Winnett said he hasn’t spoken to Long in years.
“It’s been so long since I talked to him. I tried reaching out to him before,” he said. “People can change. I just don’t know why I can’t see really any information on why he would do something like that. That’s crazy. I’m blown away.”

How smart is it to spend ANY absolutely unnecessary time in what should be, by now recognized as “killer safe” unarmed victim rich, “gun free” shooting galleries provided all over our communities for the insane and criminals to vent their rage upon the innocent, naive, citizens who are SO, SO credulous and stupid as to believe that the disarming of law abiding people somehow provides ANY protection whatsoever against LAWBREAKERS who are actually ATTRACTED to “gun free zones” knowing they can kill more people THERE than they could in places where concealed and open gun carry is allowed and authorized by law!!

I NEVER go anywhere that I am legally fobidden to effectively defend myself against a madman or criminal seeking to kill me, IF I HAVE ANY CHOICE IN THE MATTER. I can’t carry on Joint base Lewis McChord, erego I go to the Madigan Hospital doctor and then get off base ASAP. Theaters, sporting events, anything/where a large group of people are expected or businesses that prohibit guns are not where you will find me visiting. I carry on my person, not in a purse, at church.

Can't recall the source but I remember reading that Heinrich Himmler did research and determined that about 1 out of every 100 people can kill without compunction.

What we know about the gunman in the Thousand Oaks bar shooting

    By Eric Levenson, CNN

Updated 1:23 PM ET, Thu November 8, 2018

(CNN)The gunman who killed 12 people at the Borderline Bar & Grill in Thousand Oaks, California, was a 28-year-old veteran of the US Marine Corps who had previous run-ins with the law, officials said.
Here's what we know about Ian David Long so far:

The gunman is believed to have killed himself
The shooter is dead, and his body was found inside the bar when police were able to enter the building, Ventura County Sheriff Geoff Dean said.

Dean said he believed that the gunman killed himself.

    The gunman used one handgun
Dean said that officials found a Glock .45-caliber handgun at the scene that was purchased legally. The weapon usually holds 10 rounds, plus one in the chamber, but the gunman used an extended magazine in this shooting, Dean said.
Dean said he did not know of the shooter's motive, and he did not know of any connection between Long and the Borderline bar.

The gunman had previous run-ins with the law
Police had several contacts with Long previously.
In April, officers responded to a disturbance at Long's home, and he was somewhat irate and acting irrationally, Dean said. A mental health specialist met with him and ultimately decided not to detain him under laws pertaining to his mental health.
Dean said that a crisis team that visited Long felt the military veteran might be suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder.

The gunman was in the Marine Corps
The gunman was on active duty with the US Marine Corps from August 2008 to March 2013, according to Defense Department records.
He posted information about his military service on a special forces forum called ShadowSpear in March 2017. Long said he had served in Afghanistan, was an infantry machine gunner in the Marine Corps for 4½ years, and was an instructor in Okinawa in Japan.
"I was honorably discharged in 2013. I am graduating with a B.S. in Athletic Training in two months," he wrote in the post. "I found out a little too late that just wasn't the job for me. Maybe the ego got the better of me but it took only one time for a 19 year old D-2 athlete to talk down to me and tell me how to do my job that I realized this wasn't the career I wanted to head."
Curtis Kellogg, a friend who served with Long, said Long headed to Southern California to pursue a degree in sports medicine after his service in Afghanistan.
"He had a great sense of humor and like most Marines who have seen combat it could get dark at times, just like all of us," Kellogg said.
"He was excited to get out so he could go back home, ride his motorcycle again and finish school."

The gunman was a student at California State University, Northridge, majoring in athletic training from 2013 to 2016, but he did not graduate, university representative Carmen Ramos Chandler said.

    The gunman started firing suddenly
The gunman was dressed in black and wearing glasses when he walked into the bar filled with people enjoying a night of line dancing.
"I started hearing these big pops. Pop, pop, pop. There was probably three or four, I hit the ground," John Hedge told CNN affiliate KABC.
Holden Harrah told CNN the gunman opened fire within seconds.
"This guy just came out of nowhere and came out with a gun and shot people in Thousand Oaks, California," Harrah said. "And that's what's really blowing my mind, it's a really safe area."
Reports of the shooting came in around 11:20 p.m. PT.
"I heard a gunshot, I turned around and I saw him shoot a couple more times," California Lutheran University student Teylor Whittler told KABC. "Within a split second, everybody yelled 'get down,' " she said.
Witnesses said that people dropped to the floor and hid behind bar stools in stunned silence. Others jumped over chairs and broke windows to get out of the bar.

The gunman lived with his mother
Sheriff's deputies stand outside Ian David Long's house Thursday in Newbury Park, California.
Sheriff's deputies stand outside Ian David Long's house Thursday in Newbury Park, California.
Dean said that investigators were seeking a search warrant to look through Long's house, where he lived with his mother.
A neighbor told CNN that Long's mother "lived in fear" of what her son might do, saying when police were called to the house earlier this year "it took them about a half a day to get him out of the house."
Neighbor Richard Berge said Long's mother told him she was concerned about her son, though not worried about her own safety, and that "she was ... kind of beside herself, she didn't know what to do because he wouldn't get help."

Berge said that when he saw police activity at the house Thursday morning, "I knew what it was."
Another neighbor, Gareth Crites, said he rarely saw Long at the house. Crites would wave, but Long wouldn't wave back, he told CNN affiliate KABC.

If anyone should have had PTSD it would have been WWII vets-I think they had it, but didn't kill people because of it. But then, Big Pharma wasn't getting rich poisoning people with their SSRI's. Housecarl's post clearly suggests that these drugs cause the extreme mental breaks.

I did know two different people who had metal plates put in their foreheads, one was late teens when he started behaving bizarrely, ended up killing his father and sister then himself. The other found out his wife was having an affair with a cop, ended up shooting the cop (he survived with a minor injury) and then killing himself. Both were extremely kind, polite folks before the plates were put in.

There is that. We seem to groom these folks with all the shows on tv that glorify torture and killing in graphic detail. For those who are curious or have a psychopathic bent, and you'll find those nutjobs out there. I think the easy label of PTSD has a purpose, it's to label and disarm those who know best how to handle and use firearms. Tossing out the big pharma drugs, butchery that passes for entertainment on tv and mind control, we would likely be at WWII levels of acting out (next to zero).

The young man has disgraced his family, his corps, and himself.

    He did a cowardly thing

But, you aren't taking my guns because of it.

And now there is a huge and growing wildfire (Hill Fire) a few miles north of this site, that has grown th 8-10k actress in 90 minutes. And another fire in Simi Valley by a laboratory that works with a lot of radioactive material. (Santa Susanna Field Laboratory).

Apparently several Ventura County Sherrif Deputies are trapped by the flames. Really bad day for that force.

Maybe the draw of country music that isn't as easy to find as it used to be would pull people to Las Vegas, but I wouldn't think there would be a lot of driving back and forth.
My husband grew up near L.A. He and his friends would frequently just hop in the car and drive to Vegas. We joke about "all ya' need is a pack of Camels rolled up in your sleeve...." Whether we use the freeway on the weekend depends on if the traffic is headed to or from California. Conversely, when we'd go to California from New Zealand to skydive, a number of people regularly traveled from Vegas for the weekend. Considering there's direct flights from all over the world to such a large tourist town, four hours away by car isn't that bad. Even Hunter S. Thompson wrote about driving from L.A. to Vegas, another family joke on our trips back and forth- "We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold...."

I saw a Facebook page flashed on I think CBS 2 when I was watching the live streams from them and ABC 7 when his name was first released. The page had his picture but I couldn't make out much from what they showed. I had already searched his name on Facebook several times and hadn't been able to find his page, and wondered if it had been scrubbed before the media made it public. I only saw his Facebook page shown one time then not again on either stream.
