16 Kanye West segment on CNN labeled ‘racist’ for calling singer ‘token negro of the Trump administration’

Kanye West segment on CNN labeled ‘racist’ for calling singer ‘token negro of the Trump administration’
By Brian Flood | Fox News
    3-4 minutes

CNN is under fire for a segment on “CNN Tonight with Don Lemon” in which rapper Kanye West was referred to as “the token negro of the Trump administration.”

West is scheduled to meet with President Trump at the White House on Thursday to discuss a variety of topics including prison reform and how to prevent gang violence. A CNN segment on Tuesday night began with Lemon asking if Trump is simply “using Kanye as a prop to win over black voters before the midterms.”

CNN political commentator Bakari Sellers responded that his issue with the rapper is “quite simple.”

“Anti-intellectualism simply isn’t cool,” Sellers said. “Kanye West is what happens when Negros don’t read.”

Sellers’ remark prompted laughter from fellow panelist Tara Setmayer – also a CNN political commentator – who informed viewers that the derogatory remark is apparently a decades-old Chris Rock reference. CNN political commentator Scott Jennings – the only white panelist – appeared absolutely stunned at the comment and Lemon made a point to poke fun at the expression on his face.

“Black folks are about to trade Kanye West in the racial draft, OK. They’ve had it with him,” Setmayer said as the panel burst out laughing at West’s expense, again.

“This is not the Kanye West of 2004,” Setmayer said. “Now all of the sudden because he’s put on a MAGA hat and he’s an attention whore like the president, he’s all of the sudden the model spokesperson. He’s the token negro of the Trump administration.”

Setmayer went on to call the situation “ridiculous” and declare that “no one should be taking Kanye West seriously” because he “clearly has issues.”

CNN did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

CNN tweeted out a clip of the segment and it was immediately slammed as “cringe worthy” and “racist.” One user responded, “This is appalling in so many levels even for your standards CNN.”

Donald Trump Jr. slammed CNN for the segment, calling West a “wildly successful businessman” and asking, “why is free thought & expression so dangerous & scary to liberals?”

Turning Point USA’s Candace Owens told Fox News host Laura Ingraham on Wednesday the segment was “not only racist, it was absolutely despicable.”

“I cannot believe it would be allowed on any network, least of all having a host that’s laughing as if it’s funny,” Owens said.

“Careful, CNN. Your blatant racism is showing,” Media Research Center TV managing editor Brittany Hughes wrote.

Journalist Glenn Greenwald also took exception to a comment made when Setmayer said West “clearly has issues” and “has already been hospitalized” as a result of his mental health.

“Exploiting and mocking the fact that someone has previously sought medical treatment for mental health issues in order to disqualify them from participating in public debates and being taken seriously is reprehensible & CNN should be ashamed of itself for airing that,” Greenwald wrote. "What makes CNN's weaponizing of mental health treatment against Kanye West extra repulsive: a mere 4 months ago, the suicide of their own colleague, Anthony Bourdain, followed by Kate Spade's, sparked a national discussion about the dangers of this stigma"

It's a good think liberals don't think rationally or they'd be all kinds of headsplody right now trying to reconcile how three blacks were racist towards blacks.

Wait until the "negros" figure out they have been used and betrayed by the Dimocratic party for decades and decades. They will #WalkAway leaving a radical communist organization to whither and die.

I would rather be called the token Negro for Donald J Trump, then the token Negro Peter Puffer for CNN.

And the taxpayers save 20k per year each minimum by releasing these non-violent offenders that did not deprive others of their rights. Not sure what the issue is if you believe in personal responsibility and freedom. Now if you are in favor of a theocracy/tyranny where a few people decide what other people can do, believe or think without being punished I can see the issue.

NFL Legend Just Called On CNN To Fire Don Lemon After He Made Disgusting Racist RemarksPublished on October 13, 2018 • By Terresa Monroe-Hamilton

Kanye West is no stranger when it comes to stating his opinion. He’s one of a kind and he fully supports President Trump. He’s not shy about it either. And that has some on the left very upset.

On Thursday, Kanye West and Jim Brown met with President Trump to discuss issues such as criminal justice reform and the huge problem of shootings in Chicago. The media predictably flipped out on Kanye, suggesting that he was mentally ill. Just the day before this, CNN called him a “token negro” and said he didn’t read.

Football legend-turned-activist Herschel Walker is now demanding that CNN can Don Lemon after making inflammatory remarks about West. The “CNN Tonight” host laughed when rapper Kanye West was referred to as “the token negro of the Trump administration” during a segment that aired Tuesday night.

The segment was slammed as being racist. It started out with Lemon positing if Trump is merely “using Kanye as a prop to win over black voters before the midterms.” He wasn’t alone either. CNN political commentator Bakari Sellers took a shot at Kanye as well. “Anti-intellectualism simply isn’t cool,” Sellers said. “Kanye West is what happens when Negros don’t read.”

Lemon and a fellow panelist Tara Setmayer seemed to think that Sellers’ jab was really quite funny. It wasn’t.

Walker openly supports Trump. He also stands up for mental health issues and those were made fun of during this segment as well. Walker proceeded to take to Twitter to air his disbelief and disgust over all of this.

“Went to bed appalled over Don Lemon’s despicable behavior laughing at Tara Setmayer and Bakari Sellers’ awful remarks about Kanye West’s visit with [Trump]! Woke up wondering why CNN doesn’t take all three off the air?” Walker tweeted, adding the hashtag “#Shameful.” I could not agree more.

Setmayer was not done with doling out condescension for Walker either: “Bless your heart… You want to silence me because I expressed a different opinion than yours? Because I called out Kanye for what he is? Uninformed! I’m an actual conservative, who’s worked on policy advancing those principles for 20-plus years. I’ll never be a shill for Trump.”

Walker is not one to walk away from a good fight. “No…Tara Setmayer, anyone that is African American with an opinion different than yours, you want to call them out by using the N-word and Don Lemon is laughing? To me that’s bullying and shameful,” he tweeted back.

Of course, CNN didn’t really have a comment over all this. I’m shocked I tell you… just shocked.

Walker was not alone in his disgust over this either. “These reprehensible, racist comments on CNN are typical of the Trump-hating left” that exists in the mainstream media, Fox News contributor Deroy Murdock said.

“Black Americans who think for ourselves are mocked and degraded with words we last saw under Jim Crow. If President Trump had no black supporters, they would call his circle ‘lily white,’” Murdock said. “Now, one of America’s most prominent black entertainers praises and visits the president, and he is trivialized as a ‘token’ who ‘doesn’t read.’”

Murdock did point out that the silver lining in all this is that Trump has delivered on the “lowest black unemployment in American history.”

Donald Trump Jr. was all over this. He nailed CNN over it and called West a “wildly successful businessman.” Which he is. Trump Jr. added, “Why is free thought and expression so dangerous and scary to liberals?” Because it threatens their power, pure and simple.

Turning Point USA’s Candace Owens told Fox News host Laura Ingraham on Wednesday that the segment was “not only racist, it was absolutely despicable.”

“I cannot believe it would be allowed on any network, least of all having a host that’s laughing as if it’s funny,” Owens said.

This is more hypocrisy from CNN. If you are black and support Trump there must be something wrong with you. The media and the left are all for tolerance and diversity for those that agree with them. If you don’t, then they claim you have mental issues or you are some kind of bigoted monster no matter what your skin color is.

"...and a fellow panelist Tara Setmayer..."

    A little FYI...

    snipped:

"In 2017, Setmayer was named as a board director for Stand Up Republic, a non profit organization formed in the wake of the 2016 election of Donald Trump to unite Americans behind the defense of democratic norms, ideals and institutions."

The link to "Stand Up Republic" re-directs to Evan McMullin. Remember him? Conehead, ex-CIA, rabid NeverTrump™, 2016 Presidential election last minute Hail Mary candidate afterthought...
