14 Goodlatte and Gowdy Give Lisa Page Attorney Three Options to Avoid Contempt---Update #18

← Chairman Bob Goodlatte Discusses 7 Months of Refusals by Lisa Page To Comply With Congressional Subpoena(s)…

Goodlatte and Gowdy Give Lisa Page Attorney Three Options to Avoid Contempt Charges Scheduled for Friday 13th…
Posted on July 11, 2018 by sundance

Three Options: #1) Lisa Page can appear tomorrow with Peter Strzok (already scheduled). #2) Present herself for deposition Friday 13th. #3) Do both 1 and 2.

Washington, D.C. – House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) and House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) today called on Lisa Page to comply with a congressional subpoena, which required her to come before the committees to answer questions, or face contempt proceedings. Lisa Page, legal counsel to former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, is a key witness in the Committees’ joint investigation into decisions made by the Justice Department in 2016. Chairman Goodlatte subpoenaed Lisa Page to appear on July 11, 2018 for a deposition but she refused to appear.

Following Ms. Page’s refusal to appear, Chairmen Goodlatte and Gowdy sent a letter to Amy Jeffress, the attorney representing Ms. Page, calling on her client to testify voluntarily at an already scheduled public hearing on July 12, 2018 or appear for a deposition on Friday, July 13, 2018. If Ms. Page refuses these two accommodations, the House Judiciary Committee plans to initiate contempt proceedings on Friday, July 13, 2018.

Below is the text of the letter.

The signed copy can be found HERE.

    July 11, 2018

    Ms. Amy Jeffress, Esq.
Arnold & Porter Kaye Scholer LLP
    601 Massachusetts Ave., NW
    Washington DC, 20001-3743

    Dear Ms. Jeffress:

As you are aware, the House Committees on the Judiciary and Oversight and Government Reform are investigating decisions made and not made during the 2016 election by the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

Interviewing your client, Lisa Page, is an important part of this investigation. After months of trying to secure her appearance, the Committees scheduled her deposition for July 11, 2018. Despite proper service of your client with a subpoena directing her to appear, she did not. The Judiciary Committee intends to initiate contempt proceedings on Friday, July 13, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. We are aware of the issues raised regarding access to documents by the FBI. We are also aware of Committee efforts to schedule your client’s appearance for over 6 (six) months now.

As an additional, and final, accommodation, the Committee will stay the contempt proceedings provided Lisa Page voluntarily appears on July 12, 2018, at 10:00 a.m., at a previously scheduled public hearing regarding relevant issues under investigation. While your client would still be deposed at some point, appearance at the hearing scheduled for Thursday July 12, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. would negate the need for immediate contempt proceedings. Alternatively, your client, Lisa Page, could present herself for a deposition on Friday, July 13, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. This option would stay contempt proceedings and resolve the Committees’ need to depose your client. Your client may also choose to participate in both the public hearing July 12, 2018, and the deposition July 13, 2018.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

    Sincerely,

    Bob Goodlatte
    Chairman
    Committee on the Judiciary

    Trey Gowdy
    Chairman
Committee on Oversight and Government Reform

Why not just arrest her already? What would they do if it were you or me? We would not be given any choices nor would we be given any more time.

The letter will be ignored, because CONgress hasn't actually DONE anything about people refusing to show up for a couple decades at least.

How does anyone get away with refusing to appear when they've been subpoena'd? It's hard to understand why this woman hasn't already been arrested.

Because CONgress isn't a court. In court, failure to appear automatically results in a bench warrant for the MIA party. CONgress would have to actually ACT, which is evidently impossible these days.

Congress: We hold you in contempt.

    Target: OK.

After all, WE hold Congress in contempt, based on numerous polls. What does it get us?

Although it is very true that in the past Congress has failed to act in this case they may have to. The subversion of a Presidential Election by Government Law Enforcement along with the abusive FISA warrants places this situation into uncharted grounds. Constitutional Crisis comes to mind.

Lisa Page expected for private interview Friday, Goodlatte says
    Brooke Singman
By Brooke Singman | Fox News
Lisa Page, through attorney, agreed to interview: Rep. Goodlatte

Rep. Bob Goodlatte, (R-Va.), on former FBI attorney Lisa Page initially defying a Congressional subpoena and FBI agent Peter Strzok's upcoming testimony.

Former FBI attorney Lisa Page has “voluntarily” agreed to appear for a private interview before House committees on Friday, following her refusal to appear for a deposition Wednesday despite a congressionally issued subpoena.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte, R-Va., said Thursday that the committee is still working out details, but called it an “important and positive development.” Page and FBI colleague and former lover Peter Strzok, who testifies Thursday, are under scrutiny for a series of anti-Trump texts.

“The good news is that late last night, through her attorney, Lisa Page did agree to appear for a private interview on Friday, voluntarily. We are still working out details, so I can’t get into that,” Goodlatte said on Fox Business Network’s “Mornings with Maria.” “But that is an important and positive development because we’ve been trying for seven months to talk to Lisa Page, and it was very disturbing when she refused to appear for her subpoena deposition yesterday.”

Goodlatte explained that Page is “still under that subpoena.”

DEFIANT PETER STRZOK CLAIMS SCRUTINY OVER ANTI-TRUMP TEXT MESSAGES 'ANOTHER VICTORY NOTCH IN PUTIN'S BELT'

“This appearance will go a long way towards allowing the committees to get information they need from her as part of our investigation into what happened in 2016 and the disparate treatment and the bias reflected in the texts between her and Peter Strzok,” Goodlatte explained. “But this disparate treatment of one presidential candidate, Hillary Clinton where they bent over backwards to not take action against her, and the initiation of an investigation into the other presidential campaign under very questionable circumstances.”

Page defied a congressionally issued subpoena to appear Wednesday for a closed-door deposition before the same committees. Page’s legal team, late Tuesday night, said she would not testify because she needed more time to prepare.

House Republicans sent a letter to Page’s attorney on Wednesday, laying out three options for Page: show up at Thursday’s public hearing alongside Strzok, attend a closed-door deposition on Friday or face contempt of Congress proceedings beginning Friday morning.

Page’s closed-door interview Friday will take place one day after embattled FBI agent Strzok testifies in a public hearing before both the House Judiciary and House Oversight Committees.

Strzok and Page exchanged hundreds of politically charged text messages and have fallen into the crosshairs of the congressional investigation into what prompted the FBI’s Russia probe to begin.

Strzok and Page’s messages were first revealed by Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz. The latest text, which was revealed in the inspector general’s report on the FBI’s handling of the Clinton email investigation, showed Strzok vowing to “stop” Trump from becoming president.

Page resigned from the bureau in May. Page also served on brief detail for Mueller, but returned to the FBI last July where she served in the Office of General Counsel.

Of COURSE she'll appear now. She was waiting for her lover to testify so that she could keep the story straight.
