14 Dad buys billboard for son after school doesn't recognize him as valedictorian

This is what happens when 'everybody' gets a trophy. Hard work and diligence seems to be not recognized anymore. Can our educational system get any worse??

Kudos to Dad! Doing things to the best of your ability should be rewarded.

Dad buys billboard for son after school doesn't recognize him as valedictorian

Joshua’s school recently did away with naming a valedictorian and replaced it with the Latin honors ranking system.

A dad in North Carolina bought his recently graduated son a billboard recognizing him as valedictorian even though the school refused to do so.

Gary Allmon purchased the large digital sign for his son, Joshua, on U.S. Highway 264 in Wake County, North Carolina to celebrate his four years of hard work.

The proud father posted a photo of the billboard on Facebook, which reads “Joshua Allmon will always be our Valedictorian.”

Gary wrote, “East Wake High School and Wake County Public School Board may not recognize Josh's hard work but we will.”

Joshua’s school recently did away with naming a valedictorian and replaced it with the Latin honors ranking system as a “better way to recognize students who may have barely missed being named valedictorian or salutatorian by several decimal places,” according to News and Observer.

The entire school district announced in May it would be making the change starting next year, but according to Josh his school decided to do it earlier. So even though Josh said his transcript shows him ranked as number one, he wasn’t given the coveted title.

“It’s a stupid rule that will hurt students down the line, but it’ll accomplish their goal of making everyone feel equal,” he wrote on Twitter.

In addition to graduating with a 5.31 GPA, Joshua participated in two sports, multiple extra-curricular activities and had a job his senior year. He even got his college tuition paid for.

The hard-working student plans to attend North Carolina State University in the fall to study chemical engineering and paper science engineering with a minor in business, according to WRAL.

Joshua told Fox News he didn’t think his dad would actually go through with the idea.

“I was flabbergasted when I first saw the billboard, and enjoyed the recognition that it gave, but was also appreciative of the fact that it allowed for a broader message/warning to be shared,” he said.

Joshua said he hopes the billboard will send the message to people outside the school that the policy change is affecting students.

He hopes the billboard will send the message to people outside the school that the policy change is affecting students.

“It was a public statement, geared towards an increased public awareness on the negative effects that come with such policies. High achieving students have their reputations undermined by them,” he wrote on Twitter.

“It’s impossible to compete on the national stage when your accomplishments are limited by the system you have no choice but to come through. New policies are aimed at making everyone feel as if they achieved equally; this is simply not the case. Some people simple work harder,” he continued.

The billboard was on display for 10 days through June 12, the day of East Wake’s graduation ceremony.

    Huh.

My niece's high school had some 20 plus valedictorians.

Do kids get a 4.0 in high school just for showing up?

This young man really was a head above the rest. Ridiculous the school did this for the 'whiney I want a prize too kids'.

I think it all began when they started giving above a 4.0 grade point average. Gotta keep raising the bar to make the idiots below look good.

Agreed, this guy is obviously 'head and shoulders' above his classmates (including his parents , must have some tall people in his gene pool)

Even with the extra credit for 'somewhat performing' classmates, 5.3 GPA is impressive.

I have a feeling he will continue to achieve his goals, he certainly seems to be a 'go-getter'. Good for him.

The 5.3 means that he took AP classes, or was in an IB program, and not only completed the courses with an "A" but also passed the tests that allowed him to gain the extra points. The kid managed to pull that off - and the tests send most kids into serious meltdown because of their difficulty - AND do all of that other stuff while holding down a job his senior year. AND managed to get his college tuition paid for at the same time. Very good. Very good indeed.

I lived in the Wake County NC hell hole for 25 years,
and got out of there, after I retired.

The demographics there are rapidly changing,
as they are in most areas of the FUSA,
and if you are White, your race is rapidly disappearing.

I was recently back home to see a nephew graduate.
He achieved 2 honours, national honours society,
    and AP Scholar with distinction.
3 other students, also had achieved the same honours.
The valedictorian and salutatorian along with 4 more students,
achieved 3 honours, the most possible.

My nephew, and the 3 others at his level, came right after the top 6,
so out of a class of 350, my nephew would have been in the top 10.
There were 40 total students graduating with honours,
and 30 of them were either just national honours society,
or the national honours society and a lesser AP honour.

I asked about class rankings, and heard that they do not do class
rankings anymore like in the past, as it is now considered by
most skools to be racist. This skool system is also looking at
implementing the latin honour system, as I am sure it will eventually
be dictated at the federal level.

However, this graduation as in the past, listed the honour students in the
graduation program, students names were in itallics,
with a notation as to their honours. The list of the honour societies
were listed in the back of the program, and their levels.
It was simple to figure out, where the students with higher honours
    were ranked.

I did not see any FUSA African type names in the program.
They were all either European or Asian. There was one Vietnamese.

Remember, since the 1953 Brown vs Board of Education SCOTUS decision
at the point of a gun, the FUSA government skool systems have been,
of by and for the FUSA Africans.

Please be safe everyone, and please arm up.

    Regards to all deplorables.

I think all schools like this one should have no “Superintendent” and no “Principals” and certainly stop using the word “Teacher.” Children and adults, of high to zero ability, should share in administration and paychecks.

If you don't like being last or anything other then first get your ass busy and start working!! If you don't like that....move to a socialist nation and be happy but get the F@%K out of my country you pathetic loser!!
We have done so much, with so little, for so long....We can now do anything, with nothing, forever.
