May I please share my youngest son’s events?

He is so lost right now. He is 31 and on disability for panic, anxiety, agoraphobia, and more. (The disability report didn’t mention the bipolar and schizoaffective disorder he has been diagnosed with.)

His religion right now is totally about a person being worthy of going to Heaven, nothing about a personal relationship with Jesus Christ with acknowledgement of being a sinner needing a Savior that he was raised knowing and accepted as a youth.

He was breach until two weeks before delivery. The umbilical cord was wrapped around his neck “4 x tight” is how the Apgar report read. He was purple and not breathing. The machine in the delivery room malfunctioned, so the nurse had to suction him using her mouth on the other end of the tube. They whisked him away to ICU.

At age 2 we had a new refrigerator delivered and placed in the living room. In all the hectic events, moving into a new house, a remodeling crew, lots of kids I babysat.. we couldn’t find him. FINALLY a work crew member found him in the fridge. Very Very red faced, but still breathing.

At age 4 I had taken about 5 kids to the community pool, like we did several days a week. He was on a float that ended up in the 6 ft area. I didn’t see him fall off. Fortunately the life guard did. He dove in and pulled him up from the bottom.

About the same age we went to a mountain stream or river to fish, swim and picnic. We waded in the shallows to the other side to fish while the boys waded and played at the little swimming area. We started hearing “Thomas! Thomas! Help!” He had gotten into the stream current and was being carried downstream. We couldn’t get to him! A man was there with his kids and he jumped in and was able to get to him and bring him back to shore. That man told us that was the 2nd child he had to rescue from the same swimming hole!

I am humbled when I consider the Patience and Mercy God has extended to me to wait for me to “come around” to accepting the Truth of His Love, Mercy, Humility, Sacrifice, Plan to save us all (who would) as a Gift, through Christ, in spite of my arrogant, defiant refusal for so long to accept what I knew in my innermost heart was true. My mother and sister prayed for me, I cannot dismiss their appeals to God for my soul.

It took a long time for me to acknowledge Him and let God BE my God too, even though He never stopped being faithful, patiently guarding, upholding, preserving, providing, and loving me through all the years of my rebellion against him. IT WAS ALL GAIN, to come to Him, I feared I would lose something, be less happy, have less freedom, but I gained, not lost by accepting Christ.
    AMEN!

Wow - I didn't know there were so many 'close calls' in people's lives! I thought maybe one or two max! (That one was aware of anyway.)

No wonder the Lord assigned us 'Guardian Angels'! Most of us wouldn't have made it past 2!

1980. 5th year on the job. Disturbance call at a local store
Pulled up and parked net to another car with fella in it
Made eye contact and perceived no threat. Exited my car
Woman comes running out of store screaming at me. He has a gun
Sure enough he does. And Iím still next to him between cars
He shoves an old colt revolver in my belly and pulls trigger twice
No discharge. I sucked him out of the car thru the open window and beat his ass

The two rounds both were dimpled.
Gun was taken to range and it fired 50 consecutive rounds without an problem

Angel on my shoulder that say

And yes i did say i beat his ass

foreverkeeps, I pray your son discovers Grace - God's Grace, that is greater than all our sins, or he is discovered by Grace, however it works out. By Grace are we saved through faith, and that not of ourselves - it is the gift of God.

How many times? If I knew it would probably scare me to death . I will not recite the times I do know, there were several.

I will share one of the many times Our Lord saved me.

I was working 5 - 12 hour shifts, alternating days one week, nights the next. I was exhausted, working with 3 little ones at home. Sleep was at minimal. My car was needing some repairs, so I drove my husbands truck for the overnight shift. It had rained very hard that night. As I left in the morning, the road was slick. My route included a right turn at the end of a road. At the junction was a huge old oak tree on one side, a large building next to it. Both sides of the road had an overpass for trains that had been abandoned years before. As I applied the brakes to turn, the truck went into a skid. I could not gain control. I was headed toward the tree and the embankment. I closed my eyes and prayed out loud. "Jesus, Please help me! I don't know what to do!"
When I opened my eyes, I was traveling down the road after that turn. I have no idea how the turn was made. I was incapable of doing it myself. I Thank God for doing it for me. Praise God!

I have had a few very close calls in my life....related to autos. I would guess there have been dozens more, just from a distance. Like when a good Buck locates the hunter from a distance, and shy's away.....unnoticed. God is Great. His shield is multi demintional on a bazillion G network....

I have had a number of "close calls," and have had MANY concussions and head injuries.

But there is ONE that is AMAZING. I will tell you about it:

My first husband (who I divorced after 17 years) and I were on vacation going somewhere>>>I don't recall where.

Anyway, it was snowing pretty steady, but the road was clear and we kept driving. If you have ever driven in a steady snow, you know how it tends to hypnotize you. Looks sort of like you are driving through a tunnel of white. That's how it was. There was a car in front of us and DH went to pass it, but just stayed beside it for a while. I sort of "zoned" out and "saw" the car next to us hit the snow bank on their side and bounce into our lane and spin about 4 times.

I sat straight up and said to m husband: "Pass this car NOW!!" He started to argue with me and say "It's not hurting anything...." this was his typical response to anything I said....

I said "DO IT! NOW!! RIGHT NOW!"

He did it and got in front of them. He then asked me "Why did you want me to do that and so fast??" I replied "Because that car is going to run into the snow bank and go in the other lane and spin around and around."

He kept watching in the mirror and said "It's not doing anything."

    I said: 'It will."

All of a sudden, looking in the side mirror, I saw the car hit the snow bank, veer into the other lane and spin around 4 times. My husband saw it too. He looked at me and said "HOW did you know that??"

I said "God told me." He was (is) an unbeliever and he said, "yeah, uh huh, sure. But really, how did you know?"
I told him again, "God showed me what was going to happen, I had a vision. He told me to get out of the way."

    He never mentioned it again.

I, on the other hand, have never forgotten it!
There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."Theodore Roosevelt-1907.

Many times. The most memorable is:

I was 31 years old and fell sick with what I thought was the worst flu ever. Wound up in the hospital, most of which is just shreds of memory. They couldn't figure out what was wrong with me. They kept drilling my butt with antibiotics.

Then.... I had a "dream/vision." I was walking along a flat plain of clouds, whitish-grey, towards a huge, really huge bank of pure white clouds with a wondrous light glowing from behind it. Suddenly to the left of me there was a beautiful man, tall, no wings, but he glowed golden. He was there to escort me. So, I am following along, no pain, no concerns and another man, very ordinary, not glowing at all, just an ordinary man in a tunic, with brown hair approaches from the right.

About that time we had reached this vortex thing flat on the cloud plain and the golden man gave me to understand I was to enter it. The ordinary man then reminded me that I had two small children, husband and family and I had to make a choice. I stood there paralyzed, unable to decide to go forward or back. Then the golden man sort of snarled at me to get into the vortex thing and at the same time stomped his foot. I remember recoiling and thinking, "That's not right."

The next thing I know I'm waking up, alone, in the hospital room. I feel like the whole damned army has marched over me and through my mouth, so I haul myself up and get in front of the sink to wash my face and rinse my mouth. I looked into the mirror and saw I was white as a sheet with huge purple bruises under my eyes, nearly down as far as my nose. At that instant a nurse came into the room. I heard her gasp and then come around the corner where she could see me. She said, "You're awake! You're up!" I groaned and said, "I look horrid! What was the matter with me?" She said, "Oh, honey, you look SOOO much better than you did yesterday! The doctor will be in shortly to talk with you."

They never did find out what was wrong with me. I did find out that the doctors had told my husband not to expect me to recover, and he was telling our kids that Mommy might not be coming home. I will never forget the beauty and peace and radiant love coming from just behind that glowing cloud bank. And I think the beautiful one was trying to deceive me. I don't know if the plain man was Jesus or an emissary, but I knew he spoke only truth and without anger.

I was a very small child and my parents took me to a lake where there was a very tall sliding board
that went into the lake. I climbed the slide and slid down. When I hit the water I tumbled and
didn't know which way was up. I couldn't swim. I seemed to tumble a few times. Then a young
man or teen grabbed a hold of me and pulled me up, bless his heart.

My sister and I went to a county fair. We both got on a ride called "salt & pepper shaker".
Because I was so small, I slid under the bar onto the floor. It was a miracle I didn't fly out
as the cab turned upside down and rolled around. That ended my willingness to get on
    any rides after that.

I attended a gun show. Soon I stopped to look at something on a table. I then heard what I thought
was a firecracker. I looked at the man on the other side of the table. His eyes looked strange just
before he slumped to the ground. He had been shot. I found out that behind me a dealer was
trying to unload a gun a customer brought in that had jammed. The gun went off and passed by me
and shot the man standing in front of me. He was shot in the shoulder by his neck.

It was night time and my DH and I were driving home from across town in a terrible ice storm.
It was the worst black ice on the road that I have ever seen. We were on the expressway.
Twice cars spun around in front of us. There were a high number of accidents that night.

I was visiting a relative in a different state. The night before I was to drive back, I went
to bed early to get enough rest. I don't think I had driven very far when I suddenly heard
a strange sound. It was the side of the road that had deep groves. I had fallen asleep
at the wheel. I later found out I have sleep apnea. Haven't fallen asleep at the wheel since.

I was bleeding heavy for some time during my pregnancy. Doctor told me to try to lay in bed
with my hips up. One night I was really hemorrhaging. I went to emergency. They put
me on a bed in a room by myself and forgot about me. I miscarried in the bed and had bled out.
Nurse finds me and I was almost gone. They had IV blood bags with big needles in BOTH arms. I lived
but it took nearly a year for my nerves to calm down.

I looked out my window and saw the neighbor boy walking down his driveway. He was going to play
with the neighbor kids. I saw he was carrying a snub nose 38 handgun. This 5 year old boy is notorious for getting in trouble. I knew I had to be careful and fully expected he would turn and shoot me, so I had to sneak up behind him to get the gun. It was loaded. He had taken it out of his grandfathers truck.

We were on patrol with the Coast Guard Auxiliary when we came upon a 30 foot sailboat that we had to tow.
The situation dictated that we do a side tow. We had just secured the lines and had fenders (bumpers) in
place when a sudden storm hit. Other boaters suddenly raced past us as the storm hit. The call went out
to cut the lines as both boats were heaving wildly. I went up on the curved bow and had to untie the lines
as everyone had forgotten their knives. I had to put a foot on each bow to keep the boats separated
while I untied the line. Suddenly the bows of the boats separated and I almost fell in the water between
both boats. I luckily was able to lunge back onto the curved bow of our boats. My knees were knocking.

We had bought an Argo 8 wheel ATV. It could go anywhere, even through a swamp. One day we took it out to an island that is notorious for quicksand. No problem for the Argo. It was to be a short journey then back home so we didn't take anything with us. Once we got to the middle of the swamp the engine died. I turned to my DH and said "I am not getting out" (He knew better than to get out himself). If anyone knew we were missing would they find us? Even if they knew where we were, it would take another Argo to get us. We had no signaling devices onboard. The look on my DH's eyes was priceless. After sitting there silently for a few minutes my DH tried starting it again. It started, we went home and sold the Argo.

Because I had a torn rotor-cup in my shoulder I didn't ride the Honda Shadow motorcycle much. My DH wanted me to go with him as he rode his bike, so I did. Coming down a road there was a sudden curve I didn't expect. I was going too fast. How I made it around that curve, I will never know. Scared the sh*t out of me.

Praise the Lord, thank you Jesus!

I just saw a commercial or infomercial about whooping cough and remembered I had whooping cough when I was 3 weeks old. Mom said I almost died. My 4 yr old brother had it also.

I just remembered this story and posted it on the "rattle snake drops in a kayak" thread, but it really belongs here.

By the way, when I was about 10, my parents, I and my sister 9, went to a "fish camp" on vacation, rented a cabin for about $8 to $10 a night that came with a small rowboat. That year my dad rented an extra row boat so we could all fish. Well one day Dad an my sister got in one boat and My Mom and I got in the other. We hadn't rowed more than 40-50 feet from the dock when suddenly a bolt of LIGHTNING struck right between our boats.

The air reeked of "burned match" which I later learned was the smell of sulpher. My mother instantly went totally insane! She started screaming, and jumped out of our boat (holding her fishing pole) and RAN SCREAMING, ON TOP OF THE WATER all the way back to the dock, and then to the cabin! We all saw it! She could NOT SWIM and it was over her head where we were when the lightning struck!! She wouldn't come out of the cabin for two days. It took the whole bottle of Seagrams 7 Daddy brought as an "evening treat" (for them to enjoy on their vacation) to calm her down!

That's when I first found out Mom, a devout Catholic, was terrified of Lightning. She had a sin from her childhood that she couldn't seem to shake (she was the youngest surviving child of 18 kids born to utterly impoverished Catholic parents. Her mom sent her, (at probably about 7 or 8 years old), to Mass (or Catachism class) with ten cents for the offering. I don't know if she skipped Mass (or class) or not, but she said she KNEW she was doing wrong but STOLE the ten cents anyway and bought candy with it (presumably the next day, because NO stores were open on Sundays in the early 1930's.) I am sure she must have "confessed it" probably many times, but 20 years later she was still burdened about it and feared God was out to punish her for it. Nobody repented more than my Mom of that, her childhood rebellion.

You know, thinking about it in retrospect, she should have recognized the miracle of her running on top of the water that WE SAW, as God's reassurance that he had indeed forgiven her! But at the time, She was so "out of her mind" with fear I don't think she even realized she was running on top of the water, and probably didn't believe it when we all told her later.

There is also a "backstory" to that. Back when they got married during WW2 neither Dad's Missouri Synod Lutheran Church or Mom's Catholic Church would marry them unless one of them converted. It was out of the question for either of them to marry outside of the church, so Mom was the one convinced to convert and she did on paper, but I don't think she ever felt comfortable with that, since as soon as Dad died she reverted back to her Catholic roots and church. At the time of the above lightning strike, she may have also felt like a bit of an "apostate" for becoming Lutheran.

You who SEEK revenge,or JUSTICE for the wrongs, crimes and sins done to you, will find it in the same place that God is freely handing out Mercy, At the Cross, where Christ died taking the punishment not only for your sins, but also for the sins committed against you by others!

I had one bad hitchhike, the guy almost didn't let me out of his car, and his hands were all over my personal parts. Unfortunately he knew where I worked because that is where he dropped me off. I saw him looking for me several times during that period....

(Just sharing because I can relate Genevieve... anything could have happened in your journeys.
