Active shooter at The Boulevard Mall in Las Vegas

    https://bnonews.com/site/index.php/2...-in-las-vegas/

Police and other emergency services are responding to reports of an active shooter at The Boulevard Mall in Las Vegas, witnesses say. Only few details are available but the mall is on lockdown.

The incident began just after 7 p.m. PT on Thursday when police were called to reports of shots being fired at the Boulevard Mall, which is located on the South Maryland Parkway. Details about the circumstances are still unclear.

As a result of the shooting, the mall has been put on lockdown and emergency services are at the scene. One store owner told a reporter that several people may have been shot, but police have not yet confirmed that.

We’re working to gather more information.

The Boulevard Mall, which first opened in March 1968, is located in the unincorporated town of Paradise. It is home to about 100 stores and restaurants, as well as offices.

Nothing of substance on local breaking except "police presence." I'm not good with Twitter sadly.

It seems the officers are bringing people out of the building in bullet proof vests, nothing captured currently but the person streaming and other witnesses have stated the same thing.

It's no wonder we're in such trouble over the second amendment.

For heaven's sake, active shooter means SHOTS FIRED.

    These alarmists drive me crazy(er)

Whoever he is, they can't find him. Weird. From a little while ago:

    Per Deputy Chief Chris Jones:
Video was obtained showing a person with a long gun, wearing a mask. We've conducted 3 searches and are unable to locate the individual at this time. Not an active shooter, no shots were fired and no citizens were injured.

A tactical team and our K9 are conducting another search. We'll be on scene, continuing our investigation. A PIO will be updating media as needed.

The term "Active shooter" gets used far too often now.

People are in such a rush to be the first to report something that they forget to find out if it's true beforehand.

Twitter isn't really a reliable source if you want more fact instead of hysteria.
Too often it's just random people on the internet passing along rumors

Police arrest suspected masked gunman who caused Boulevard mall scare

    https://lasvegassun.com/news/2018/ma...th-gun-at-bou/

Metro Police swarmed the Boulevard mall Thursday evening, responding to reports of a masked man carrying a rifle. No shots were fired, no one was injured, and late into the night, officials announced that the gunman was finally located and arrested.

Patrol officers responded about 7 p.m. after multiple people reported seeing the man walking through the center of the spacious mall, near Maryland Parkway and Desert Inn Road, Metro Deputy Chief Chris Jones said in a briefing.

He did not make any verbal threats or pull the trigger, Jones said, but he was wearing a mask, which was confirmed when arriving officers combed through surveillance footage.

A plethora of police, who surrounded the building, blocking every entrance, evacuated it and swept through it at least four times, Jones said. By 10:30 p.m., that officer presence had dwindled and officials declared the gunman still missing. At about 11:40 p.m., officials announced the suspect had been arrested and that police had recovered the mask and gun, which they said appears to be fake.

Earlier, a Metro helicopter had buzzed above, SWAT vehicles pulled in, and officers armed with rifles made their way around the property. Crews with the Clark County Fire Department and medics were on hand in case any further incident occurred.

"We do not know what the individual's intent was in coming into the mall with that rifle, but that investigation will continue through the night and hopefully we'll locate (him)," Jones said about 9 p.m., noting that officers in tactical gear and police dogs were ready to conduct a fourth search.

Security guards were instrumental by immediately contacting 911 and quickly allowing police access to their security equipment, Metro spokesman Officer Jay Rivera said.

Actually, Dave Barry talked about that better than 10 years ago. Fair use and so on.

As Abraham Lincoln once said, "Journalism is the first rough draft of history."

Or possibly it was Thomas Edison who said that. I'm pretty sure somebody said it, because you often hear journalists quote it in an effort to explain how come they get everything wrong.

We see this all the time. Journalists, rushing to get a story out under deadline pressure, will report — based on preliminary information — that a ship sank, and 127 people, many of them elderly, perished. Then, upon further investigation, it turns out that nobody, in fact, perished, although one elderly person was slightly injured by a set of dentures hurled by another elderly person in an effort to get the first elderly person to stop talking so loud. Then it turns out that this happened at a nursing home, as opposed to a ship, although the elderly people were watching a video of "Titanic" at the time, and although there were only four of them, as opposed to 127, the nursing home is located on Route 124, which is only three less than 127, which is not that much of an error when you consider the deadline pressure that journalists operate under.

That's what we journalists mean when we talk about "the first rough draft of history."

That's why Twitter shouldn't be considered a reliable source.
It's random Tweets from random Twits.
