The brilliance of the Electoral College.

Did the founders foresee this day coming? We don’t know and never will, but it certainly would seem as if they did.

The Electoral College is a control system to help ensure individual states were fairly represented, those sparsely populated alongside those densely so. Otherwise one or two densely populated areas could speak for the whole of the nation. It was not created as a device to favor Democrats, Republicans, Whigs or Tories. It was created as a system of checks and balances to guard against any small vocal area, perhaps with a specific agenda, forcing its will upon the entire nation.

“Does the Electoral College makes sense today?” has been commonly asked. Well…

There are 3,141 counties in the United States.
    Trump won 3,084 of them.
    Clinton won 57.

There are 62 counties in New York State.
    Trump won 46 of them.
    Clinton won 16.

Clinton won the popular vote by approx. 1.5 million votes.
In the 5 counties that encompass NYC (Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Richmond & Queens) Clinton received over 2 million more votes than Trump.

In other words, these five counties alone, more than accounted for Clinton winning the popular vote for the entire country. The five counties comprise 319 square miles. The United States is comprised of 3,797,000 square miles. When you have a country that encompasses close to 4 million square miles of territory it would be somewhat ludicrous to allow the vote of those who inhabit a mere 319 square miles to dictate the outcome of a national election. Large, densely populated cities (NYC, Chicago, LA, etc.) do not and logically should not speak for the rest of our country.

Somehow, perhaps divine wisdom, the geniuses who founded our country created a system to avoid that circumstance.

Yes the Constitutional Republic our founders created, and all these hillary people are saying its an unfair advantage and thinking that we are actually a democracy.
We seriously need to fix our education system.

    That’s some map and statistics

While Clinton may have had 1.5 million votes more. If you don’t believe that between Nyc, New Jersey and Ca.there were
Not in excess of 2 million illegal votes cast, you are naive

Having lived in RURAL NY (yeah that actually exists, my hometown had all of 1400 residents growing up, in approx. 1.3 square miles...though the census added in some areas just outside of the village...) the life in that kind of area is SO DIFFERENT from where I am now, Euclid, 47,360 in 11.8 sq miles...and in the edge of a million dollar SMSA.

And that Waterville boy is still at my center, and I damn sure want people who understand the REALITY of small town, farming town, life as they start talking about restrictions or legalizing things.

SMSA=Standard Metropolitan Statistical Area ... One of the basic building blocks of ANY (even BASIC) demographics discussion

Specifically the founders wished to avoid the disasters Rome experienced resulting from the concentration of political power in large cities.

And conversely, the disaster of area overwhelming a popular will.

Its a "middle of the road" path for your political horse cart. Veer strongly either way and the college pulls it back to center.
