4 Tillerson OUT, CIA chief Pompeo IN

Trump ousts Tillerson, will replace him as secretary of state with CIA chief Pompeo

President Trump has ousted Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and replaced him with CIA Director Mike Pompeo, orchestrating a major change to his national security team amid delicate negotiations with North Korea, White House officials said Tuesday.

Trump last Friday asked Tillerson to step aside, and the embattled top diplomat cut short his trip to Africa on Monday to return to Washington.

Pompeo will replace him at the State Department, and Gina Hapsel — the deputy director at the CIA — will succeed him at the CIA, becoming the first woman to run the spy agency, if confirmed.

In a statement issued to The Washington Post, Trump praised both Pompeo and Haspel.

“I am proud to nominate the Director of the Central Intelligence Agency, Mike Pompeo, to be our new Secretary of State,” Trump said. “Mike graduated first in his class at West Point, served with distinction in the U.S. Army, and graduated with Honors from Harvard Law School. He went on to serve in the U.S. House of Representatives with a proven record of working across the aisle.”

The president continued, “Gina Haspel, the Deputy Director of the CIA, will be nominated to replace Director Pompeo and she will be the CIA’s first-ever female director, a historic milestone. Mike and Gina have worked together for more than a year, and have developed a great mutual respect.”

Trump also had words of praise for Tillerson: “Finally, I want to thank Rex Tillerson for his service. A great deal has been accomplished over the last fourteen months, and I wish him and his family well.”

The president — who has long clashed will Tillerson, who he believes is “too establishment” in his thinking — felt it was important to make the change now, as he prepares for talks with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, as well as upcoming trade negotiations, three White House officials said.

“I am deeply grateful to President Trump for permitting me to serve as Director of the Central Intelligence Agency and for this opportunity to serve as Secretary of State,” Pompeo said in a statement. “His leadership has made America safer and I look forward to representing him and the American people to the rest of the world to further America’s prosperity. Serving alongside the great men and women of the CIA, the most dedicated and talented public servants I have encountered, has been one of the great honors of my life.”

Haspel in a statement also said she was excited for her promotion.

“After 30 years as an officer of the Central Intelligence Agency, it has been my honor to serve as its Deputy Director alongside Mike Pompeo for the past year,” she said. “I am grateful to President Trump for the opportunity, and humbled by his confidence in me, to be nominated to be the next Director of the Central Intelligence Agency.”

    Yes.

Interesting that Trump seems to allow people to stay until they finish assigned tasks or reach goals then sends them on the way. I expect a lot of turn over. Not really a bad thing.

Positive step. Trump took a lot of establishment people into his cabinet and senior roles and we were all concerned about that. He is strong enough now to start ditching those people and putting the ones he wants into more senior roles. There will be a lot of hand wringing over this and the media will play up the turmoil but Trump is getting stronger and the globalist are getting weaker. Overall positive in my book. The left will have a hard time defeating the CIA nominee being a female as well.

Remember though Pompey was only at CIA for a year and he wasn't a career guy there but was a former Congressman. With the upcoming negotiations with the NORKS and along with dealing with Russia and China he knows things now that he didn't before. If he gets a lot of kickback from the left in being confirmed that might tell us more than anything else.

I just got a look at a summary of her job history....WOW, this woman is the REAL DEAL!

    For links see article source.....
    Posted for fair use.....
    https://www.cbsnews.com/news/gina-ha...ned-spymaster/

    CBS/AP March 13, 2018, 10:06 AM

Gina Haspel, new CIA director, is a "seasoned spymaster"

Gina Haspel, the newly named director of the CIA, and the first woman named to the position, is a career spymaster who once ran a CIA prison in Thailand where terror suspects were waterboarded — a harsh interrogation technique President Donald Trump has supported.

President Trump announced Haspel's promotion Tuesday morning in the same tweet where he announced his ouster of embattled Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, and Mike Pompeo's selection as his replacement. CIA Director Mike Pompeo appointed Haspel as the first female CIA officer to be named deputy director on February 2, 2017. She has extensive overseas experience, including several stints as chief of station at outposts abroad. In Washington, she has held several top senior leadership positions, including deputy director of the National Clandestine Service and deputy director of the National Clandestine Service for Foreign Intelligence and Covert Action.

She also had a role in the CIA's former covert program where suspected terrorists were subjected to harsh interrogation methods, including waterboarding, which simulates drowning. More than a decade after it was last used, the CIA is still haunted by the legacy of a tactic that the U.S. government regarded as torture before the Bush administration authorized its use against terrorist suspects.

There was speculation at the time of her appointment as to whether Pompeo's pick signaled an attempt to restart the harsh interrogation and detention program. News organizations obtained a copy of a draft executive order that would study recommendations on whether the U.S. should reopen CIA detention facilities outside the United States. It would also have ordered a review of interrogation methods used on terror suspects and called for suggested modifications that would not violate the U.S. legal ban on torture.

Haspel briefly ran a secret CIA prison where accused terrorists Abu Zubayadah and Abd al Rahim al-Nashiri were waterboarded in 2002, according to current and former U.S. intelligence officials, who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity. She also helped carry out an order that the CIA destroy its waterboarding videos. That order prompted a lengthy Justice Department investigation that ended without charges.

Mr. Trump, who has pushed for tougher interrogation techniques, said he would consult with Pompeo and Defense Secretary James Mattis before authorizing any new policy. But he said he had asked top intelligence officials: "Does torture work? And the answer was 'Yes, absolutely.'"

When asked if her appointment to the director role would see a return to the use of "black sites," a CIA spokesperson told CBS News: "This appointment is simply about putting in place the best person for the job."

Christopher Anders, deputy director of the American Civil Liberties Union's Washington office, said in February that he was "gravely concerned" about Pompeo's decision to choose Haspel.

"Pompeo must explain to the American people how his promotion of someone allegedly involved in running a torture site squares with his own sworn promises to Congress that he will reject all forms of torture and abuse."

According to the WSJ, the stable genius has also fired his personal assistant John McEntree, having him escorted out of the White House without his jacket. An unspecified

"security issue" was mentioned. McEntree has been working with candidate Trump and President Trump for three years.

Strangely, the Trump campaign has announced that McEntree will re-join the team and serve as the new Senior Advisor for campaign operations based in D.C.

The WSJ has a paywall so I can't repost the article.

It must be tricky persuading new people to sign-up for staff positions at the White House.

Trump is just firming up the best of the best. I bet Pompeo will weed out yet more swamp creatures at Foggy Bottom. That's a real swampy place. He finished up at CIA or gave the new director final directions on who still needed to go and moves on to State to get that organized right.

Lot's of reasons to let Tillerson go and move Pompeo. Pompeo has info that others would not being CIA for the past year. Yup, it's a good thing in mho.

I don't think so, especially since she's got more balls than a lot of the new college grad CIA pajama boys who hired on during Obama's terms.
    She should do fine.
As far as the previous CIA head moving to Sec of State,,, the foreign service has frequently been the home of a big percentage of our spooks.

President Trump Reveals He Fired Rex Tillerson Over Disagreement on Iran Deal

    By Jim E | March 13, 2018 11:04AM
President Trump has revealed the reason he fired Secretary of State Rex Tillerson this morning, replacing the former Exxon Mobil CEO with CIA Director Mike Pompeo.

It turns out it all revolved around the Iran deal, the much-maligned agreement between the Obama Administration and the Iranian government over its nuclear weapons program.

AOL news provides the full quote Trump gave to reporters just minutes ago:

“We got along actually quite well, but we disagreed on things,” Trump said as he boarded the Marine One presidential helicopter en route to view prototypes for his proposed border wall.

“When you look at the Iran deal, I thought it was terrible. He thought it was okay. I wanted to either break it or do something, he felt a little differently.”

This isn’t surprising. It’s well known that Tillerson has had trepidation about outright ending the Iran deal as Trump has requested over and over. He has stalled and equivocated on the deal every time Trump has mentioned trashing it.

I suspect there was more behind the firing than what Trump admits, however. Despite their ideological differences on the Iran deal, there was the breaking down of the personal relationship between Trump and Tillerson that dates back to last summer.

As we’ve reported previously, Tillerson allegedly referred to Trump as a “moron” in a private meeting. The comment eventually leaked out, and Tillerson was forced to go on live TV and practically re-pledge his loyalty to the President.

Then there was their differing approach to North Korea, where, last fall, Trump told Tillerson, the nation’s lead diplomat, to not bother speaking to the rogue nation, undercutting Tillerson’s job.

All this and more likely led to Trump’s fateful decision to expel Tillerson from Foggy Bottom.

I get the impression that Tillerson was a common kind of guy. He was smart, but unable to grasp the whole picture that Trump can see.

Trump has wonder-vision with a complete world view.

Tillerson focuses in small terms, but can't see all that we're being shown through Q.

Tillersons job was completed and no longer needed. I think President Trump brought him on for his superior knowledge of the energy field. He knew where the problems where and what needed to be done to bring the USA into the major exporter of Energy. This was a primary goal of POTUS from day one. It puts the US back in the drivers seat. Tillerson may have some health issues also but it is President Trumps style to hire and fire. That is how you take a million and turn it into billions. Not the democrap/commie way but it works for me.

I know nothing of Haspel but I do hope she is meaner than a junk yard dog and will take the Clintonista to the waterboard.
