The actual 1994 "assault rifle ban," was more farce than anything else. It is illegal to buy a new assault rife in New York State. What you are mentioning were the ones that were grandfathered in. Further, the gun makers just tweaked the AR-15 a bit, took a few things away, added a few things, and it became legal to buy again. They were obsessed with the folding stocks, so they put a pistol grip on it. They were obsessed with the barrel length, so they added another few inches. They were obsessed with flash suppressors yada yada yada.

At any rate, the liberals can't even ban guns effectively since they have minimal knowledge of guns.
It is a simple fact that in a state like New York "they" screw with you about owning a gun much more than they do in say Texas. It is also a legal requirement to register any weapon you have in New York City and state. The hoops they make you jump through to actually get a handgun, rifle or shotgun are much more obnoxious than, again, Texas.

New York city has pretty much universal registration... N.Y. STATE doesn't have any such requirement for long guns, with- as you mentioned- the exception guns with certain characteristics that the legislative morons decided made them "assault rifles".

Handguns require a CCW permit, which, except for the time required due to an insane backlog (probably because we were getting them at a time it appeared Hitlery was going to win the election) was stupidly easy. Every county is different, though. Our sheriff is very strongly pro-2nd, and encourages responsible gun ownership.

If this bill was about ANYTHING other than guns, the dems would be going batshit crazy. They would scream about the bill was racist because it unfairly burdened poor people.

That’s what they said about requiring a $16 ID card to vote, anyway.

But since it is their bill, and about gun control, it’s ok. Bunch of damn hypocrites.
Accept certain inalienable truths: Prices will rise. Politicians will philander. You, too, will get old. And when you do, you'll fantasize that when you were young, prices were reasonable, politicians were noble and children respected their elders. - Mary Schmich

If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck.
