Romford EXPLOSION: Essex town hit by huge blast - emergency services rush to scene

AN EXPLOSION has rocked parts of Romford in Essex, forcing residents to be evacuated from their homes.
    By BELINDA ROBINSON - PUBLISHED: 16:07, Sun, Mar 4, 2018 | UPDATED: 16:17, Sun, Mar 4, 2018

The gas explosion was heard on Harold Hill at 1.30pm near a parade of shops.

Police said it was not terror related.

The London Fire Brigade and the London Ambulance Service and police helicopters have arrived on the scene.

Local residents, and motorists are being urged to avoid the area.

Homes have been evacuated and a large cordon has been put in place while the emergency services investigate the blast.

Collier Row police unit tweeted this afternoon: "Harold Hill incident was a domestic gas explosion linked to a faulty fridge. No injuries, limited damage."

Earlier today, a spokesman for The Metropolitan Police said: "Police were called shortly before 13:30hrs on Sunday, 4 March to reports of an explosion at a premises in Farnham Road in Harold Hill.

"Officers, the London Fire Brigade and the London Ambulance Service are currently at the scene.

"We await an update as to whether anyone is injured.

"At this early stage officers are unable to confirm the cause of the explosion but enquires are underway.

"Residents are in the process of being evacuated from the building. The Local Authority has been informed.

"Local road closures are in place. Motorists and pedestrians are advised to avoid the area."

Local resident Grace @graciewhut tweeted: “I've just been evacuated from my house in the pouring rain. Great.”

Havering Police confirmed that the explosion is not "currently being treated as terror-related".

They tweeted: "Officers along with other emergency services are currently on scene in Farnham Road #HaroldHill, following reports of an explosion.

"Cause not known but not currently being treated as terror-related. We await updates re any injuries. Pedestrians & motorists advised to avoid the area."

Michael Roast, an area manager for Coop, apologised to customers after the Harold Hill shop, near the blast, was forced to close.

He said all employees "had been evacuated safely."

He tweeted: “Apologies to all our customers in Romford Harold Hill we have had to close our coop store on police advice due to an explosion.

"All colleagues have been evacuated safely. Great work by the store team."

A local resident, who chose to remain anonymous, told Essex Live: “There was a loud explosion which shook the flat but as I live behind we don’t have the drama that would have gone on.

“The glass from the building was thrown across the road. It was a little after 1:30. We had a look at 1:40 and there was two firemen already at the scene.

“A police van turned up soon after and then one fire engine. I know there are more police vans around to block off the roads.

“They cordoned off from behind the shop it was only the road directly behind it. I live opposite and we were told to stay in but people that lived above the shops were told to evacuate.”

Another local resident, Shantel Cook, from Romford, believed the explosion had occurred at the back of the Post Office on Farnham Road.

She told MirrorOnline: ”It was inside or at the back.

"It has blown all the windows out. There are all sorts of rumours at the moment.

"I got phone calls saying there was an explosion as my daughter was in the area.

"Now I am coordinating with other people in the are such as churches to help families who have been evacuated."

This is the SECOND GAS EXPLOSION IN LESS THAN ONE WEEK IN ENGLAND. Either England has a serial killer, terrorist running around blowing up gas lines, or they have a failing gas infrastructure, or more likely, the extreme cold weather they have been dealing with the last few days is stressing their heating systems and this is the result.

Yep, think of how much gas is flowing through the national pipe system the last month of super frigid temps.

How easy would it be to "make" a gas exposion? Probably quite easy, I would think. Just open a valve, or put a propane torch under a pipe, or ?

Leicester explosion updates: Shop owner among 3 men charged with manslaughter

They are also facing a charge of arson

Five people have died after an explosion ripped through a shop and flat in Hinckley Road, Leicester, on Sunday night.

The Mercury is covering the story live. Updates will appear below.

The blast tore apart a Polish shop, close to the junction with Westcotes Drive, at about 7pm.

A massive blaze broke out at the site within a couple of minutes of the explosion, which rocked houses in nearby streets.

Two teenage brothers, Shane Ragoobeer, 18, and brother Sean, 17, who lived in the flat above the destroyed Zabka store in Hinckley Road with their parents and younger brother, both died in the tragedy.

Melton 18-year-old Leah Beth Reek, who was Shane's girlfriend, has also been confirmed as a victim.

Viktorija Ijevleva, 22, of Oldham, is also one of the deceased. She was believed to be working in the shop at the time of the blast.

The remaining missing person is Mary Ragoobeer, 46, Shane and Sean's mum. She is believed to be the fifth fatality, but that is yet to be confirmed.

Five people have been arrested in connection with the incident.

Three have been charged with five counts of manslaughter and arson with intent to endanger life.

The other two are still being questioned.

An illegal alcohol still blew up

Hinckley Road explosion that killed five ’caused by illegal alcohol distillery’
Nicole MorleyNicole MorleyFriday 2 Mar 2018 11:28 am

The huge explosion which ripped through a three-storey building killing five people could have been caused by an illegal alcohol distillery.

Three men arrested on suspicion of manslaughter in their 30s remain in police custody after five people died in the blast at the Polish Zabka supermarket on Hinckley Road, Leicester, on Sunday night.

The men – all in their thirties from East Anglia, the North West and the East Midlands – were arrested on Wednesday.

Residents writing on social media claim the blast and resulting ‘pancake collapse’ of the three-storey building was caused by an alcohol distillery exploding in the cellar.

Posting a link to a story on the explosion, Liam Gannon said: ‘Heard from a[n] inside source they were making vodka.’

While Johnny P, wrote: ‘My mate has friends who helped cordon the area off on Sunday night and apparently cops told them an alcohol factory was in the cellar.
See NTI story NTIEXPLODE; Police have declared a "major incident" after reports of a "massive explosion" in a shop and flats. Emergency crews rushed to the scene after the blast at about 7pm. Dramatic pictures show flames erupting from the store on Hinckley Road, Leicester, after witnesses told of hearing a "massive explosion." The building is in a terrace of shops, to the left of TJs, near Hinckley Road post office. It appears to have been reduced to blazing rubble. Debris from the building has been blasted across both carriageways of Hinckley Road
The explosion tore through a three-storey building . Mary Rajoobeer, 46, Shane Rajoobeer, 18, Sean Rajoobeer, 17, Leah Beth Reek, 18, and Viktorija Ljevleva are still officially missing. S

‘According to my mate, vodka and gin was being made and that caused the explosion. The chemistry is pretty unstable and when it goes bang, it really goes bang.

‘Always thought a gas explosion didn’t sound plausible considering no one smelled anything nearby.’

Writing on Facebook, Roz Rowett, of Leicester, said: ‘I’ve heard someone was making vodka and it exploded?

‘Don’t know how true it is though. RIP to all that have lost their lives.’

Officers searched the home of shop owner Aram Kurd, 33, and taking evidence bags from the property in Leicester.

Mary Rajoobeer, 46, and her two sons Shane, 18, and Sean, 17, who lived in the flat above the Polish store destroyed in the blast, are all feared dead.

Leah Beth Reek, 18, who is Shane’s girlfriend and 22-year-old shop worker Viktorija Ljevleva are also thought to have perished in the blaze.

Leicestershire Police are not commenting on claims but have not ruled it out as a line of enquiry.

The force appealed for more information on people seen going in and out of the shop in the hours before the fatal blast.

Detective Inspector Michelle Keen said: ‘Our enquiries have established that there were a number of people in the area of the supermarket in the hour leading up to, and in the minutes after, the explosion.

‘I want to hear from anyone who was near the supermarket at the time and who, thinking back, remembers seeing something that they thought may have been suspicious.

‘It’s vital that we speak to anyone who may have information about any people they saw coming and going into the supermarket in Hinckley Road in the hours leading up to the explosion.

I think the owners were Polish, Dennis. The report is the men arrested were running an illegal still to make Vodka.

    Moonshining Muzloids, no less!

(Granted, distilling booze in a closed area isn't the wisest thing, just in case a malfunction causes a bunch of alcohol vapor to boil off into the air in the presence of an open flame, but I'm not sure it would cause the level of "boom" seen in that explosion they are now blaming on illegal distilling)

And I thought Muzloids weren't allowed to drink booze? But making it is ok?!

NO information about the three men arrested has been released. They gave their ages, and where they were from but that is all. I'm not sure where the idea they were Muslim came from.

Probably from the fact that NO info has been released. It's sort of standard code at this point...

The media and government never release information if a minority or a muslim is involved. It is likely they really are Muslims, but I'm just saying that hasn't been confirmed. They could be Eastern European immigrants, of which Britain has a huge number, besides the Muslims.

Because of their appearance as middle eastern and IIRC names as well, maybe here, maybe elsewhere.

I haven't seen where Scotland Yard released their names, nor have I seen any pictures of the three people arrested. The only information I have found is their ages, and the city they came from. Do you have a link for their names and pictures?

Well, it is now official. It looks like a bunch of Muzzies are now being charged with manslaughter. The authorities still haven't said why they did it, but are whining about people not "speculating" on the reasons. Sigh. I find it interesting I found the story on a Kurdish web site.

    The link is here.

Three men charged with manslaughter following English house explosion
    By Rudaw 3/3/2018

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – Police in the English city of Leicester have charged three men, thought to be Kurds, with manslaughter, arson, and intent to endanger life following the death of five people and the injury of many others in an explosion on February 25.

Aram Kurd, 33, of Hillary Place, Leicester, Hawkar Hassan, 32, of Eld Road, Coventry, and Arkan Ali, 37, of Drake Close, Oldham were all arrested on Wednesday, February 28, in connection with an explosion in Hinckley Road.

They are currently being held in police custody and will appear before Leicester Magistrates Court on Monday, March 5.

Two other men, both from East Anglia, were arrested on Friday. They remain in police custody for questioning. Police said they were detained on suspicion of conspiracy to cause an explosion and for offences under the Proceeds of Crime Act.

Emergency services said the blast caused a ‘pancake collapse’ of the three-story building.

Shane, 18, and Sean Rajoobeer, 17, Leah Beth Reek, 18, who was Shane’s girlfriend, and Viktorija Ljevleva, 22, have all been named among the dead. Another victim is thought to be Shane and Sean’s 46-year-old mother Mary.

Leicestershire Police have not yet said what caused the explosion, but claimed there is no evidence it was terrorism related. Residents have speculated on social media there may have been an alcohol distillery in the cellar.

“Throughout this complex investigation we have been urging journalists and members of the public not to speculate about the cause of the explosion,” the forces said in a statement.

“With three people now charged and due in court, it becomes even more important, for legal reasons, that this message is heeded. A continuance of such ill-informed and speculative commentary threatens to jeopardize this investigation and serves only to cause further distress to the families of those killed and injured.”

Actually is. In GA, people are scared to death of gas. Just will not use it. I have had people decline renting for that reason alone.

How easy would it be to "make" a gas exposion? Probably quite easy, I would think. Just open a valve, or put a propane torch under a pipe, or ?

Not gonna give arson/demolition lessons here, but yes, quite easy.

DH does various things with tools, welders, and whatnot and it just seemed to me that a gas explosion could easily be made on purpose. Thanks.
